  1. Your #5 Ranked Zips will face of as LIU comes in with a record of 3-1. They did beat UConn on the road a week ago 2-0. This could be a good test, even if it wasn't originally scheduled to be one.

  5. Miami-Hamilton!!! If the Zips are still looking for a couple of games, they could ramp up local interest by scheduling the Goodyear Wingfoots. There must be enough of the players still above grass that they could put together a team. Also might consider contacting some of the area YMCAs to see if there is any interest in playing the Zips.

  8. I think we'll be able to sneak up on them. They're clearly looking past us to Towson.

  9. By the way, the Harriers have the contest with Akron listed as an exhibition game on their schedule.

  10. Why would we schedule Miami-Hamilton instead of Walsh, Malone, or Mount Union? Let the area small schools come play us.

  11. Anyone watch the Ball State/UK game? Freshman Kadin Semonza (quarterback) showed out. Wasn’t the case of UK playing their backups either as they left their starters in for the full game. Looks like multiple schools (including myself) missed the boat on this kid. Ball State has UGA up next and they’ll probably start Hatcher again, but Semonza is a name to follow from here on out.

  12. Regardless of the Richmond game, Morgan State is a mediocre 1-AA program (at best). We'll beat them handily. With Irons' long injury layoff, and the lack of contact in summer camp, I think he was both rusty and skittish. And we still almost won. The Zips will romp this week...Irons will get back on track...I'll have too many Oktoberfests in Lot 9...and we'll move on to Kentucky...where I'll be attending along with my wife. If there are any Zips-Lexington tailgate parties going on...besides mine...feel free to PM me. Night time kickoffs = a full afternoon of tailgating on back-to-back Saturdays!

  13. I just heard an interview on Sirius Nascar radio of the woman that heads the Nascar Foundation. They were interviewing her because she is in Akron with Matt and his race team. They are at the Children's Hospital handing out teddy bears. One of the host of the show asked her about being with Matt in Akron where he is a rock star. Owning a Nascar team, being a former Zips quarterback and all he does for the city. She said its not just Akron but all of Northeast Ohio with his philanthropy. That its unbelievable all the things Matt does and is involved with in this area. They also talked about our marching band being there. Lebron was the caretake and face of this area but I feel Matt has taken over that role. As far as the UofA, nobody has promoted the university more. side note: One of the host is a NIU grad and the producer of the show is a Ball St. grad. so there is some MAC banter from time to time. They know my love for the Zips so when we play those schools, there is some fun dm's back and forth. 14. I can't recommend highly enough to bookmark D1 Docket if you're interested in finding out who we schedule OOC as soon as possible year after year. The dude meticulously documents all OOC schedule info throughout the country, often using the FOIA to find the contracts that reveal such games. Based on that source, we have ten games thus far (2 more than that ESPN link at the moment), below, including getting the answer to the eagerly-anticipated question of who our non-D1 opponent is this year. Teaser: It's not Concord! 11/6 @South Dakota State 11/11 SOUTHERN MISS 11/19 FIU, Cayman Islands Classic 11/20, Marshall or Utah State, Cayman Islands Classic 11/21, Oakland, Drake, Loyola Marymount, or Stephen F. Austin, Cayman Islands Classic 12/5, BRADLEY 12/9, @ Northern Kentucky 12/17, MIAMI-HAMILTON 12/12, GARDNER-WEBB 12/30, St. Bonaventure, in Cleveland Miami-Hamilton, you ask? Yes! They are a branch of Miami of Ohio, of course. They aren't D2! They aren't D3!, SO HELP ME GOD, THEY AREN'T EVEN NAIA! No, the "Harriers" are a part of something called the USCAA! They play in a conference called the Ohio Regional Campus Conference, which they share with our own dearly beloved Wayne College branch. Gardner-Webb is the other heretofore unrevealed opponent. D1 Docket's shading indicates Akron's schedule is "unreleased," which means it's at least possible there are more games to be added.

  15. Unrelated to FB in particular, but today was University of Akron day at the Guardians vs. Rays game. According to Willy Kollman, it was the largest college day of the season there. 700 Zips attended. With a special ticket package, you received a Guardians hat with an Akron logo on the side, and a pregame reception area. President Miller threw out the first pitch. I was blown away by how many people came out, and it felt really good to see after that stinker in Philly yesterday. I’m pumped for Saturday, getting this fanbase and community back together again. Home games are so important as the MAC fanbases dwindle year after year. This program needs to make the most of them now more than ever.
