I know this statement might be unpopular but so be it. When I would watch Akron under the Arth era, it was so bad that I would usually turn it off at half time because of the ineptitude. When I went to the occasional game I never stayed for the end because it was that bad. The defense was non existent and in most games we would be out of the game at half time. At least this year, we have been leading or could have won all the games but one game. I look at it as a murder mystery, instead of a who dun it, I just think to myself how are we going to blow it. At least it has been watchable football with a good defense. But for the ending, the Indiana game was an enjoyable game and DJ played his best game in some time. I know that it sucks to lose, but I will probably return to the stadium this Saturday because I know some day we will have a surprise ending and win a close game in the 4th quarter against a division 1 team. I brought this up a few years back. OK a LOT of years back. Anyway I played football for Chippewa (Doylestown, Ohio) and we didn’t know what division we played in. It’s Division VI btw. Nobody cared that we never played Canton McKinley or Massillon. Our coaches didn’t, our fans didn’t, our families didn’t. It was good competitive football. Same with Akron Zips, football was a lot more fun before we went FBS. IDK if the U thought football would bring in more money. Or if they thought a competitive FCS team could win games and conferences and bowl games. Or maybe they were looking at the TV money and thought “We can get that too.” Whatever it was, they just about destroyed the sport. It has to be a PR hit for the whole university. Jump in and tell me if I’m wrong, but I believe it’s a lot more fun being Mount Union in a division they belong than it is for us in FBS.4 points

Seriously, a shame about Irons. The thing you can say about him is he gave max effort. Hope he recovers.2 points

3 of our losses are by a combined 8 points (incl 2 OT games). Should have beat Indiana which would have been huge for the program. Went toe to toe with undefeated and soon to be ranked Kentucky for 3 quarters. We are so close, its just so frustrating.2 points

Obviously a long shot now considering the record, and a back up QB, but this is the MAC, so you never really know. Our D should keep us in most games. And now Joe might actually be forced to feed our RBs.. Buffalo was a bowl team last year that won their bowl game. OOC obviously wasn’t good to them, but they lost to 3 quality opponents in Wisconsin, Liberty, and Louisiana. Fordham loss looks bad, but a FCS loss can happen to anyone. Look no further than NIU after beating Boston College. I’m at minimum putting Can’t St, Ball State, and I suppose us behind them.2 points

Another tough one… - I cannot wrap my mind around why Lingard is not utilized more in the run game. He’s a threat every time he touches the ball and we only gave him 8 rushing attempts. I know Irons chose to pull several times instead of give, so that is part of the issue. In any case, Lingard may be the offense’s best weapon and we hardly use him outside of a few pass targets and to block. - Heavy emphasis on running Irons this game, which is somewhat understandable after last week, but he can’t be the only running option. - If Undercuffler is next in line and he’s expected to be successful without a run game, it isn’t going to happen. He actually did give to Lingard one (maybe two?) time on the read. - I thought Buffalo’s receivers made Snyder look much better than he was last year. This year, he is playing on another level. Impressive job by the defense holding the MAC’s leading passer to 142 yards. - Special teams were solid all game except for the blocked OT FG. - That’s already 3 losses by a combined 8 points. Defense has done more than their fair share and it’s past time this program turned the corner. There is not a talent deficiency on this year’s roster and the offense must figure it out. Coach Moorhead is a brilliant offensive mind, yet the offense has been incredibly inefficient scoring. This year’s offense (at least with the 3 QBs we’ve seen) needs to be more run heavy and the staff has to realize it. - Notable DNPs were Adams, Cooper, Bullock, Blanchard, K. Thomas, Behm. - Sophomores Kiawan Murphy and Jaharon Griffin saw their first significant action on defense. - KJ Martin played every snap on defense, while Bryan McCoy only missed one. The starting OL went the distance with the exception of Georges subbing in for Tyler Williams a few times. - Defense was credited with only 5 missed tackles for the game. QB - Irons (Undercuffler) RB - Lingard (D. Anderson) WR - George (Norton) WR- Gathings (C. Anderson) WR - Walker (Golden) TE - Banks (Newell) LT - Chambers LG - Frank C - T. Williams (Georges) RG - Davis RT - N. Williams DE - Adler (A. Smith) DT - Lavea (Murphy) DT - Jones (Robinson) DE - Nunnally (Jackson) LB - Fish (Griffin) LB - McCoy (Harris) NB - Lewis CB - Durant (Hunter) S - C. Thomas (N. Thompson) S - KJ Martin CB - Tallandier (Golden-Nelson)1 point

6'5" SG from Cincy Moeller. Not seeing other offers. Looks pretty athletic. Also looks taller/longer than 6'5".1 point

I love this site, and I love the passionate Zip fans, but it doesnt matter how bad we suck, theres always stats or whatever thrown around about how close we are. By "we are close" I just now translate it to "we suck but I'm such a big fan that it hurts to admit the truth, so I'll just say something positive"1 point

I don't think it's unpopular at all. If less than 10 plays go a different direction, the Zips are 4-1 and tied for first place in the division. The MAC isn't a hard place to win. We just seem to make it impossible.1 point

Want some perspective on how ineffective the Zips passing game was yesterday? In each of their last games, Army, Navy and Air Force have thrown TD passes for longer yardage than the Zips longest pass yesterday.1 point

Good luck getting any of the non-ZNO, casual football fans to come back this season. Games like this kill any chance of generating a fan base or getting a walk up crowd. The stands are going to get emptier and quieter as we move forward. On to soccer, hoops and 80 proof or better beverages. Talk to you all in a week or so.1 point

I see plays called with many passes at or behind the line of scrimmage. I see receivers who catch the ball with backs turned to the field. Play calling!1 point

How ironic that they 'honored' Jim Dennison, the coach that got screwed when they hired Faust. I think Dennison even got them into the 1-AA playoffs 1 year after they statrted to move to D-1. No, they had to have a high school dropout who couldn't even win at ole' ND. The program has never been the same.1 point

I didn't know this. It's alarming. VA Tech is a horrible, losing program and he couldn't play there? Let's bring in a QB from a winning program.1 point

Just saw it. You're right they put him to a choice and he chose wrong, the inside guy blocked it with his helmet, the outside guy was close but would not have got there.1 point
-
No but it looked like number 5 broke the cardinal rule…he took the outside guy and the guy that took his inside gap blocked it1 point

All he did was use him to hand off five times, scrambled for a sack and throw the ball to the cook at Europe Gyro. I'm guessing he's pretty disgusted with his QB room.1 point

At this point don't care about the score. I am tired of watching Moorehead's marshmallow offense. I am tired of his offense hanging the defense out to dry. I am tired of watching Irons try to play QB. I am tired of Moorehead in desparation inserting a QB who has watched the entire game from the bench. No run game in the offense. That's Moorehead's fault. Staying with a QB who holds the ball too long, is generally inaccurate and makes poor decisions. Even a 'close' game isn't a whole lot of fun to watch. The results seem inevitable. To Buffalo's credit, they figured it out. They ran the ball between the tackles a lot. Their QB generally made good decisions and put the ball on target, on time. Won't win many more games this way.1 point

Cuffy with the clutch gene. I’m ready for rolling with Bullock or Wasel the rest of the season and continue building for the future.1 point

Joe Arth until further notice. Much better recruiting. Same football ineptitude, playcalling, and execution.1 point

The guy who fair caught on the 3 should never go in for another return. They can't afford this level of stupidity and expect to win games. I'm out west right now and went on the new app to see where the game would be televised. I was pleasantly surprised to see the app knows where you are and updates the game start time based upon your time zone.1 point

We know what we have in Undercuffler and it's not a D1 FBS QB. Throw Bullard in there, try to adapt to his strengths and see what they have.0 points

U had zero situational awareness when he threw that ball. So much optimism, so little D1 QB play. Akron has to have one of the worst QB rooms in the country. There are people in it, but nothing in it.0 points
