  1. I was impressed by the play of Jackson Herbert today. Mitch Budler made an outstanding save very late in the game.

  2. At this point what do we have to lose by seeing what our young guys can do? From what I have seen we can still preserve their redshirt years if that’s what we are concerned about. We have to evaluate what we have at the QB position for the long term future and what better time than now to do it? At least then we’d at least be getting our future guys some meaningful snaps/experience versus bashing our heads against the wall trying to do the same thing each week and getting nowhere.

  3. If my math is right, we are the 7 seed and will play at Xavier next week?

  4. So the only chance at a home game is a Zips win, Xavier loss and Creighton loss or tie. Both Xavier and Creighton have tough road games so at least it's within the realm of possibility.

  6. But what does them being the "lesser option" matter at this point? This team is 1-6. Let me repeat, 1 win. Bullock is not the savior, he has more than proven that already. He can barely throw an accurate 5 yard pass. It's pretty clear others on here would actually care to watch if one of the young men got a chance in this waste of a season. What, does the "lesser options" bring fear that our "genius" head coach may have also recruited bad players on top of the other things he hasnt accomplished so far? JM is rather protected on this board by some, so maybe that's it, fear of further exposure. Beating Kent does nothing at this point. For me that's just another way for an Akron fan to try to make lemonade out of a lemons season. This season is a wash and beating a fellow 1-6 team in front of 10 fans doesnt do anything for momentum because there are still plenty of games left for horrible loses this team seems to like to do this 2023 season.

  7. His bar is low. Throw the ball to the guys with the “A” on their helmets. And don’t drop it every time an opposing DL is bearing down on you.

  8. Well, here's the thread for this week. Someone had to do it lol. I'll really only be interested at this point if Jennings or Wasel starts.

  9. https://gozips.com/news/2023/10/27/mens-soccer-big-east-championship-seeding-on-the-line-as-no-10-akron-battles-butler lots of info in press release....that I normally don't see....rankings for shots per game, corner kicks per game, shots on goal per contest, etal..... FINAL SEEDING ON THE LINE FOR BIG EAST CHAMPIONSHIP With the final weekend of BIG EAST Conference regular season action on tap on Saturday, Oct. 28, the stage has been set for a tightly contested battle to determine the final seeding for the upcoming BIG EAST Championship, Nov. 4-12. On the strength of a 2-1-4 league mark, Akron has claimed a berth in the tournament. With a victory at Butler on Saturday (Oct. 28), the Zips will be seeded No. 2, 5, 6 or 7 depending on the outcomes of the other five league contests. An Akron victory coupled with a Xavier loss at UConn and a Creighton setback or draw at St. John's will give the Zips the No. 2 tournament seed and an outright Midwest Divisional title. Akron can also share the divisional title and be the No. 6 seed with a win and a Xavier draw and Creighton loss, while a win coupled with a Xavier draw and Creighton victory will secure the No. 7 seed for the Zips and a divisional crown. A triumph by the Zips in other scenarios is expected to result in a No. 5 seed for Akron.

  10. If Zips lose @ Xavier, it would make us a bubble team with RPI in mid 40s. A mediocre finish to the season and 7th place in conference is not a favorable resume for an At Large invitation. Zips best take care of business @ Xavier or the season might be over.

  13. No. 132 in the country vs. 133. Something has to give. Kent beat Central Connecticut State, 3-4 in the Northeast Conference. The Zips beat Morgan State. I don't know if anyone has noticed but Morgan State came in a 1-0 off of a big FBS win over Richmond. Since handing the Zips a win, they've not won a game. I think we're stuck with Undercuffler and Bullock from here on out.

  19. A quarterback coach breaking down when a quarterback is ineffective. Sound familiar? One of the best-ever explainers of how costly sacks are was David Cutcliffe. Now retired, Cutcliffe was the fellow who coached such unhesitating, flashing recognition into both the Mannings, first at Tennessee with Peyton and then with Eli at Ole Miss. Cutcliffe always likened the field maelstrom for a quarterback to “air traffic control, and it’s fast.” He wanted such decisiveness from his quarterbacks that he got impatient if a guy even hesitated over a menu. He swears he used the “menu test” as a recruiting filter. If a kid paused and said, “What looks good to you?” Cutcliffe crossed him off the list. The Mannings under Cutcliffe learned to make judgments in just three clicks, “Presnap, post-snap, alarm,” Cutcliffe demanded. Presnap assessment was about making sure you were in the right play and protection, or adjusting it. Post-snap, you had to make an instant assessment as to whether your presnap judgment was right or wrong, and if it was wrong, “go like hell” to get out of it, Cutcliffe taught. If you got to the “alarm” stage, “Now we’re bad wrong,” he explained. “If you’re not careful, what you end up doing is making a decision by indecision,” Cutcliffe said. “And that’s the worst one you make. Decision by indecision — you catch yourself flat footed while you’re waiting for an answer. Any time you hold the ball, you have already made a mistake, because the decision is going to be made for you. You’re going to be sacked or force a ball or quite likely turn it over.”

  21. We need to beat Kent and get some positive momentum going into 2024. This isn’t the time to give PT to guys just because they’re freshmen. If Wasel and Jennings haven’t received any PT this season, it isn’t because someone wants to preserve their eligibility. It’s because they are a lesser option than even Bullock.

  23. No. Pass on Bullock. Time to see Jennings or Wasel. JM himself visited each of them at their houses multiple times to recruit them. I'd like to see what they have since he went after them. Bullock has looked bad thus far and wasn't exactly a guy Akron was desperately trying to get. His old college was happy to see him leave in the portal. This season is over, why not see what one of the high school recruits have to offer? Literally the Zips have nothing to lose seeing what one of the young guys has to offer. But sure, Bullock, we can start him. Yawn.

  24. Sort of. Past the second team players, most guys don't get very meaningful reps.

  25. These guys have had 3 months of practice since spring. It's time to see what they can do. There won't be much pressure with mostly parents and girl friends in attendance.

  26. It was 1457 Votes for a blackout, and 886 votes for a blueout. The barstool is pretty big on campus now then it was a couple of years ago, i know my buddy is still at UA and said their frat is gonna all buy matching black shirts lol for this. Whatever keeps the youth at the games is fine with me. Maybe ill wear a black hat for support.

  27. I don’t mind at all trying out young QBs out. Heck I’d welcome it. But I’m not trying to go the Irons route with TB because that didn’t work at all. What I am suggesting is leaning on Lingard and seeing if he can be a workhorse and the focal point of the offense. Honestly don’t know what the best option is going forward but just seems like Lingard is a good back and we haven’t tried this yet (but I could be wrong there).
