I missed parts of the game and haven’t been able to find a place to rewatch. What I did see was mostly what was anticipated. Small mistakes can be blown out of proportion quickly against a team like OSU. QB - I really hope Finley can bounce back after that beating. My biggest fear for this team came to fruition on the very first play on offense. Bullock filled in admirably and seems to at the very least have more control of the offense this year. We still don’t know if he can consistently hit passes further than 10 yards. 8 of his 9 completions were under 10 yards. RB - Simmons looked very capable and even held his own in pass protection. Kellom definitely has potential with the ball in his hands, but was overwhelmed in pass pro. WR - We didn’t get to see much of anyone outside of Golden. Golden does look much improved, so that’s a positive. TE - Newell made plays when the ball came his way. He, like so many others, struggled in pass protection. Good to see Cravaack make an appearance and catch a pass. OL - Seymore got the start at center. I’m not sure where T. Williams was? Seymore definitely held his own as a blocker. The problem was almost every snap was high. He was eventually pulled and replaced by Morris. If Seymore could get his snaps in order, he would easily be our best option. Morris has a high upside and may end up playing a bigger role than expected. I believe Burrell played every snap at RG. Davis played the majority of snaps at LG. Shor was absolutely blistered at LT. Blanchard came on later in the game and was marginally better. Thomas played RT and was the highest rated OL starter. DL - The defensive line is as good as advertised. The 4 man rotation at DT is going to be a load for MAC teams to handle. Nunnally is a complete player at DE, but missed at least one clean sack opportunity I saw. Adler played well despite minimal stats. Cheatom and Dall did some really good things when they were in the game. Defensive end is only going to develop and become more formidable from here. Coach Wart deserves some praise. LB - Fish was seemingly everywhere. McCoy was too, but he slipped off of several tackles. Cooper came in and also played really well. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I’d put this group of LBs up against any in the conference. CB - I’m not sure what to think of this group. On one hand, OSU has some excellent WRs and made some tough catches. On the other hand, our CBs didn’t necessarily seem that explosive. I don’t think we’re in trouble here, but I do think this is the weakest position on defense. NB - D. Lewis was also seemingly everywhere. His coverage seems to be improved this year too. S - I’m a fan of P. Lewis. He is easily our most complete safety. On the opposite side, David has the athletic ability to be really good, except I saw him either run right by the ball carrier or just whiff multiple times. His pass coverage wasn’t good either. He has to be better. Greenwood and Hunter had encouraging moments in their limited snaps. I think Hunter will eventually be a stud. ST - Special teams were vastly improved. Let’s give credit where credit is due. Coaching - I thought the staff had an excellent game plan from top to bottom. We were just overmatched physically. I watched large portions of every MAC team play this weekend. Nothing about Week 1 has changed my opinion on any of the teams. I’m anxious to see what happens in Week 2 as teams start to get a better handle of who they have and what they are best at. Depth Chart and Order of Play: QB: Finley Bullock Roggow RB: Simmons Kellom M. Biggest takeaways Front 6 looked like they could be really good against lesser competition. They held Ohio States run game in check all day Finley looks like he can be the guy but man he needs to stay healthy and safe. The o line should hold better against lesser competition but if not he’s in trouble. We have a D1 kicker! Could be a game changer in one score games I liked how Moorehead called the game I really hope he gets the confidence to allow for more play action and deeper throws but I completely get why we avoided it with the o line being totally outmatched today Wide Recievers need to do so much more hopefully it was just a matter of not getting plays to develop but we will see. Hell of a lot better than 2021 let’s hope it can translate the next few weeks.3 points

As the state should be doing. The share the state should be subsidizing should be considerably higher than it currently is. Students are the future workforce, and the future workforce is future GDP. Properly fund education, and stop having regressive policies that push young people away from Ohio. Those are the two things the state should do.2 points

Or...the radical idea...the state could properly fund higher education like they used to, thus increasing the educational opportunities as those other schools outside OSU. Also, the state doesn't control OSU's (or any other Public University's) enrollment criteria.2 points

Here's hoping that Finley is not substantially hurt and doesn't have PTSD from that experience. You could see how he got more and more concerned with the rush as the game wore on. Hopefully, his "happy feet" was a situational thing rather than something he'll have to continue to deal with as he missed some potential big plays by bailing out quickly when he felt pressure.2 points

Well, I think I pretty much nailed this prediction, missed it by one field goal. Having said that, the game was different. I thought OSU would get out to a quick 35-0 lead and win on a first round TKO, that didn’t happen. I thought the Zips played really well. The defense looks really solid. Even some of the Buckeyes big pass completions were just great plays on some good pass coverage. Offense struggled but hard to really get a gage on them while playing against one of the best defenses in the country. Overall, I saw a lot of good signs of progress. They need to battle against Rutgers. This needs to be a close game. Go Zips!2 points

Toledo's non conference schedule is Duquesne, UMass, @Mississippi State and @Western Kentucky. This is how a school that wins a lot schedules for momentum and success. UMass will be a win. MSU will be a loss. WKU will be a competitive game with a chance for a win against a good program on the road. 3-1 to start the season isn't out of the question. 2-2 should be a slam dunk. Toledo is trying to win games. @Ohio State, @Rutgers, Colgate, @South Carolina is how a program schedules for failure and zero momentum. Akron simply isn't trying to win.1 point

We made a couple million. I made $100. The quarterback only got somewhat hurt. Buckeye fans said we looked pretty good. The all white kits looked slick for the road.1 point

It's great for recruiting. My daughter wouldn't have chosen Akron if it wasn't for the lacrosse team and the awesome stadium the girls share with the football team. And if you look at the athletes gpas at akron they are very impressive. The football program is good for student life, recruiting, and while not top 20 in the nation exceptional student athletes that reflect well on the college.1 point

Sport- if you're not a freshman and you're not contributing to Zips teams that are winning 2 games a year, you are likely not a division 1 football player.1 point

I went to the Guardian's game last Saturday. The smell of pot is everywhere. I was at Sam's Club earlier in the day. The meat department might as well have been a dispensary. I really didn't foresee when pot was legalized that it meant you're basically going to smell it 24/7 wherever you go. Especially downtown.1 point

Harvard College admits approximately 2,000 students a year going back to at least 2016. I would bet a number very close to that goes back a long time. Akron should be increasing the standards for admission and maintain at the current enrollment. Higher GPAs and standardized test scores would be good for the University. "More" being the only measurement for success is how the University landed in this position in the first place. I want more, just more good students. I also want fewer underperforming students.1 point

OSU main campus is already very selective in both general admissions and for specific colleges. My son had a 3.7 GPA and good ACT and OSU-main admitted him, but he could not get into the College of Engineering. He also didn't care for the whole OSU environment/culture (he is not interested in athletics or the Greek system, etc.). He chose The Univerity of Akron for many great reasons. I just wish more kids would look to UA as a destination.1 point
