https://www.topdrawersoccer.com/article/?categoryId=21&articleId=53982&articleTitle=best-of-mens-college-soccer-week-ten Player to Watch: Emil Jaaskelainen, Akron He is far from a secret, but what Jaaskelainen is doing this season deserves an isolated look. The graduate senior leads the country with 20 goals, six more than anyone else. Add the seven assists, and Jaaskelainen leads with 47 points, 14 more than the closest competitor. The British forward has been the best striker in college soccer while also peaking at the perfect time, with 17 of those goals coming in the last nine matches for the Big East regular season champions. Identified as a preseason transfer to watch, adding the two-time NEC Player of the Year from Long Island has clearly been a success for the Akron Zips. It must be the tips he learned from his father, Jussi Jaaskelainen, an English Premier League goalkeeping legend who played more than 800 matches.8 points

We escaped the bottom 10!! Also, two of our OOC opponents next year (UAB and Wyoming) are on there. Lets start 3-1 next year... https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/42078475/college-football-bottom-10-week-9-give-us-liberty3 points

It would be great to see the Zips play a clean game. No stupid celebration penalties after a score or a sack. No shanked kickoffs or punts No surrendering 95+ yard drives No muffed kickoff or punt returns No letting the opponent drive the length of the field in the closing seconds of the half or game. i can dream, can’t I?3 points

We actually haven’t been on the list for several weeks. McGee saw us play live against South Carolina and took us off his bottom 10 a week or two after. I’m with you, 3-1 OOC seems very realistic next season. I guess if that comes to pass we’ll have to find someone else to fire…2 points

Commit to the run again.Try to send a message that this team has gained some toughness that it hasn't had for weeks. Send a message to the O line that this is their game to win or lose. They had a 100 yd rusher last week so it can be done. The offense has to keep that defense on the sidelines as long as possible. Giving up too many 'chunk' plays. I realize that UB may defend the run better than the pass. So make them defend the run then throw it over their heads. If UB likes to run they will gouge the Akron D. Bullock may figure more prominently if they can put him on the field with Finley in some RPO situations. And, the first guy who gets an unsportsmanlike sits for a while.2 points

The OOC schedule doesn't really matter anyhow. People need to realized the MAC will never get an at-large tournament bid. The actual season begins in January.2 points

Zips were number 24 in coaches poll last week they rocket this week up to number 13 https://unitedsoccercoaches.org/rankings/college-rankings/ncaa-di-men/2 points

If we were running it back returning our starters, I'd understand this more. This is virtually an entirely new team in a sport where chemistry can overcome talent. It's going to take several months before this team realistically "peaks". These early season OOC games are when Groce needs to evaluate what rotations work and don't work.1 point

Our basketball program is much further along than our football program. While our football program simply needs W's, I wish our basketball schedule was strong enough to allow us, with an upset or two, to be ranked nationally. The most buzz the team ever had (in my memory) was Zeke's senior year when we were ranked #25 for about a week.1 point

If we did that, people would moan, like they do in the football thread. Claiming it destroyed our players confidence and derailed our season.1 point

Lembo gushes about Akron for about 7 straight minutes starting around the 3 minute mark. He talks more about Moorhead and the MAC later on too. Entertaining presser.1 point

I wouldn’t be surprised to see Brown-Demery work his way onto the two deep as a freshman.1 point

If we win our first game, is it too soon to fret over Groce leaving, and begin speculation on the potential replacement candidates?1 point

Imagine the program you supposedly root for having its best win since Bowdens last season and not being happy about it. Couldn’t be me.1 point
