  1. It's just a general comment. It's great to want new seating, better scheduling, better players, etc... All of those things cost money. The administration is telling us more cuts are coming. If you are a fan, you can do your part to make up the difference. Buy a better seat. Make a donation to the Zip Athletic club. Make a donation to the collective. UA is not a P-4 school with large numbers of rich alumni. LeBron is not going to come rescue us. My experience in this world is you get what you pay for.

  2. This is fair. Here’s another great idea that won’t get funded. Sorry, but seriously. I wonder if it would be beneficial to have a crowdfunding page on Fear the Roo where we could all see the basketball program’s wish list with their set priorities and goals. I think visualizing each line item might give perspective and motivation. I know a new stadium costs tens of millions, but I have no idea how much a Thanksgiving tournament costs. People feel their $50 - $100 is a drop in the bucket, but if they see a line item slowly progress towards 100% maybe there would be more involvement. Edit: I just want to add that I would like one of the line items to be a general fund specifically giving Bud Wentz permission to use his financial talents to invest and grow a nest egg for the long term.

  3. will have to deal with center Raynaud, the nation's best double-double producer with 24 and averages of 20.1 points and 10.6 rebounds per game. 24 games with a double double is nice and all, still I think 31 is better. 🙂

  4. And just like that, most things about the NCAAT that appealed to the casual fan are gone. If this continues into the future, there will be viewer apathy, and ratings and advertising will suffer. The suits are always so short-sighted. I was only planning to watch games featuring Cinderellas. Since there are none, I've lost substantial interest. There are other things I can spend my spring weekend days enjoying.

  5. This is brilliant. Our church does something like this for their missions goals, although not quite to this extent. It's a lot easier to spend money when you know what you're spending it on. I would also like to add that they desperately need to find some sort of clothing supplier that will provide much cheaper attire options without sacrificing too much aesthetically. @Zippy87 is right about the jerseys and vest. At that price point, they target a very niche group of supporters, and probably people that already give a lot to the university/program. They need to find a way to offer Joe Akron desirable attire/gear at an affordable price point.

  6. Im going to make a recommendation, but I'm a little worried 75% of all athletic directors will take it seriously. Akron should play an exhibition game against the Harlem Globetrotters and serve as the Washington Generals. We could split the profits with all going to the NIL collective. Imagine Hilltopper or the President of the school getting doused with a bucket full of confetti. Problem solved.

  7. Abandon all of the cupcake games in the ooc and schedule high paying opponents on the road. It works great for the football program. Seriously, shooting better Friday night wouldn't have cost a penny more. I don't know what Jeff Gillooly would cost these days, but diverting some NIL money to hire him to kneecap some of the Wildcats would have helped.

  8. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NCAA_Division_I_men's_basketball_tournament_all-time_team_records Interestingly, of all the teams to play in the men's NCAAT and not win a game only Boise State (10) and Eastern Kentucky (8) are more than our total of 7 without winning, and we are tied with Long Island University, Nebraska, and South Dakota State So, we are due to win a NCAAT game! 😁😆

  9. Everybody has all these ideas about what is needed to move the program forward but nobody wants to help pay for those things.

  10. This is exactly where college sports is now. It was not lost on me that Bud sat with the team and next to Ford at the Selection Show Watch Party. Not that I have an issue with that - I don't- but I don't think that's something you would have seen 5 years ago. These wealthy alums are semi-formal parts of the program now.

  11. Go Creighton. F the SEC and their 14 bids (6 of them have already been eliminated!).

  12. As a wise man said ( @csims0917 😉) "We're in limbo." I wish our Big East soccer buddies would throw Men's Basketball a bone or two with scheduling.

  13. To look at it a different way, we were the only Ohio program to make the 64 bracket, and the only Ohio public college in the tournament. There’s that I guess.

  15. Not to the Selection Committee. The selection committee uses a number of factors to rank teams for the S-curve, including record, strength of schedule, and the NET in the Division I men's tournament and the RPI in all other championship tournaments. Relative subjective comparison of individual teams close on the S-Curve are also considered.

  19. They don't say basketball, but here are 2 nicer blue polos with the Akron logo. https://www.rallyhouse.com/Nike-Akron-Zips-Mens-Navy-Blue-DriFIT-Victory-Stripe-Short-Sleeve-Polo-19867348?gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjw4v6-BhDuARIsALprm31jtmBfBV9Ttpt9xRHayTc2xVMNh6RY_sQ8uL9LEW0jhvvZe8VU8msaApOUEALw_wcB&variant_id=4363428 https://www.fanatics.com/college/akron-zips/polos/akron-zips-antigua-reprocess-polo-navy/o-38+t-67797733+d-86665651+f-5738913898+z-9-4221730519?utm_medium=cse&_s=GPA_CA&sku=207626555&targetid=targetid&utm_campaign=21215721552_161618398979&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjw4v6-BhDuARIsALprm30wUhKkQuh-8bpskTQNO7rPl_vo-MGu5L1Fg8I6smi41MDooVbRXbgaAtj-EALw_wcB

  20. I've heard something related to a contract UA has with Barnes and Noble that limits what they can produce/sell, but I don't really understand it or know if there's a way to get out of it. I will say that, as a person with a closet full of Zips gear, I was jealous that the guy from Barstool that they sent a box of gear to got so many cool items after he hopped on the bandwagon for a week. 😂 Maybe now that Charles is gone, the surplus sale will come back!

  22. Did you see the interview with Wade where he said his recruiting pitch prior to the season was that a P4 job next year was the goal and the players can come with him? Scumbag. Glad we have Groce & Wentz. Now let's go get those final pieces to break the glass ceiling.

  23. and he's not some jerk Tech Bro. He wants sustained success. 3 MAC championships in 4 years is a good building block. What will McNeese State look like next year? Im sure their coach was on the first private jet out of Lake Charles along with that goofy assistant water boy.

  24. Bud Wentz is the de-facto GM of the team. He does way more than just contribute money.

  25. When I go to Jersey Mike's among other restaurants, I'm always asked if I want to leave a tip and suggestions are made. Maybe they could raise some NIL money at season ticket purchase time doing something like this. Depending on the past giving of season ticket holders, different giving levels could be recommended.

  26. I agree, but I do think it is on athletics and the Collective to find a variety of avenues to create this funding. I like the thought process @Illini Zip just shared on providing specifics of where money is going. I would be far more apt to donate to a specific goal I am in support of than just mailing a check to the collective and hoping it helps. But that's just me. I also think they should find a way to highlight all donors, not just the Summit Circle. Maybe allow anyone who donated $100 or more to go shoot on the court after a particular game. Or hold a post-game meet-and-greet with a player. 10 fans donating $100 is just as good as one donating $1000. If it's hard for people to see where their hard-earned money is going, they won't give it to you.

  29. Tai Perkins' Westerville North team beat Perry 78-46 in the D-2 state championship game Friday night. Tai had 12 first half points & finished w/ 19. Westerville North lost 2 of their 1st 3 games but then went undefeated the rest of the season mostly blowing teams out. I think they're probably the best team in the state regardless of division.

  30. I have just shared my frustrations with the state of the MAC and college basketball in general. But I too want to thank the guys for an entertaining and successful year. And even though we the fan base are dying to get this NCAA monkey off of our back, this year was another step in the right direction. And every player who contributes along the way is appreciated and deserves to be celebrated. So thank you to Seth, Isaiah and Evan. You all seem like great dudes and it’s been a pleasure watching from afar. And now, Tavari, back in the weight room with you. Marvin and Amani improve your driving and shooting and Okonkwo, free throws and finishing around the rim. Because we know Groce & Company with the help of Bud Wentz are not quitting. And I’m not going anywhere either. I have a scholarship chart that apparently needs a couple more spots added to it. Go Zips!!

  31. We just ended a historic season for Zips basketball. Unless you win the NCAA championship, every team ends the season on a down note. We were all moderately perturbed and disappointed by the end of 2024 but this guard heavy team really turned it on in 2025, dominating the MAC season. Their was a lot of growth in the team with guys like Nate, Tavari, Amani and Shammah making huge steps in their games. There are some critical comments on here occasionally about Gray but that kid came to play every night, often forced to take on the other team's second big. Young looks to have the brightest future of anyone on this team. Hopefully, he won't get stolen away. I'd like to see Okonkwo commit the offseason to building his strength, shooting free throws and working on his hands. I'm really looking forward to seeing Mahaffey. I think he could be the bigger wing this team has missed. On to 2025-26.

  32. I would think that the next step is to win a winnable game in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Akron had the talent and coaching to win yesterday. They didn't for a lot of reasons with two key reasons being unusually bad shooting by the Zips and unusually good shooting by Arizona.

  33. If the quality of the teams you get thrashed by is indicative of the quality of your program, then Zips football is much better than I was led to believe!

  34. Does any of that fall on the shoulders of the head coach and his staff - IMO it can’t all be blamed on bad luck. Lack of depth going in had to contribute to some extent, no?
