The WCC and MVC have been leaps and bounds better than the MAC over the last 2 decades. We don't need Kent to be good per say, but a better MAC as a whole would certainly help with recruiting, raising fan interest, providing more quality match-ups, potential at-large opportunities, etc.

"neutral"...I expect a much larger contingent of Rocket fans at the game than I do Akron given their proximity.

Recruiting stars never played a factor for me. WMU had a lot of returning talent, namely on defense, on what was a really great team. Akron started the year with a lot of unknowns.

A 62 year old coach going 7-5 playing in the MAC isn't going to be a hot commodity. Even Les Miles, whose accomplished more longer, is having issues finding a position because of his age. If any MAC coach leaves for greener pastures this year my guess would be Jason Candle.

You get what you pay for. At ~$4 a ticket it amazes me people complain about bleacher seats. To my knowledge there are upper reserved seats available if people want to pony up for them.

Yes, but those aren't 'common fouls'. I'm not asking for the basketball boards to keep track of technical fouls or flagrant.

Yeah, for starters in football a player can't be disqualified from a game for committing a certain number of penalties.

I made a post in the renovation thread after seeing the ribbon boards that provided team stats saying something along the lines of thank god I don't need to check my phone anymore. At the time I didn't realize they took away the individual player stat boards. I assumed if anything they would have expanded individual stats to include rebounds and assists totals. I was wrong and now retract my statement.

Nothing that I can really think of. They have a pretty poor basketball program. Kent, OU, and Buffalo (in that order) I'd say are our biggest basketball rivals.

Any tournament win a MAC team gets will require some amount of luck. Whoever we face in the tournament will pretty much always have the better team on paper. You just have to put yourself in a position that a few bounces here or there your way can swing the game in your favor.

It's the route I went. Unfortunately most 18, 19, 20 year old kids aren't the smartest when it comes to knowing how to manage money. Even worse with money they can "borrow".

Probably more high priced student apartments going in. No better way of fixing the student debt crisis sweeping this nation than charging $3000 a month for a 4 bedroom apartment to students making minimum wage.

I just think your margin of error is smaller in a conference like the B1G where you are competing against the best of the best. Those guys got those jobs by being excellent recruiters and good in game coaches. Most MAC basketball coaches aren't even worthy enough to hold Tom Izzo's jockstrap. I'm appreciative of what Dambrot achieved and Groce will have an uphill battle to just meet what Dambrot achieved. A better comparison who be comparing what Groce achieved at OU vs. what Dambrot achieved at Akron. Dambrot will also have an uphill battle at Duquesne as he'll be competing against higher caliber coaches.

It's an apples to oranges comparison. In the B1G Groce was competing against some of the best basketball minds in all of college basketball. Clearly he bit off more than he can chew. I don't feel it has any indication whether he will succeed or fail in the MAC.

IDK if he recruited well enough by B1G standards. It was kind of a running joke on college basketball reddit, which I frequent, that when it came to recruiting he was always the bridesmaid, never the bride. He finished runner-up in quite a few recruiting battles involving 4* and 5* players.

It's definitely a generational gap. I'm right there with you. Watching at home is more convenient, cheaper, clearer view of the game, and more comfortable seating.

This. Why give Kent a full week to prep for a particular QB when you can keep them guessing.

I actually think having it the week of Thanksgiving helps. More people have off work and more people who are from the area and went to Akron are back in town for the holidays. That being said, IMO it would take a nationally ranked Akron team for us to draw 15k on a Tuesday night in mid November.

A lot has changed in 12 years. More and more people prefer to watch games in the comfort of their own home on their 55 inch 4K TV instead of actually attending live sporting events.

There isn't much of a market for 60+ year old coaches unless your name is Nick Saban. With a win over Kent, Bowden will likely get a 2-3 year extension. Akron in all likelihood is his last job. It's just a matter of if he'll leave on his own terms or if we will be canned in a few years.

How many of those were purchased by the University?
