Just because we might not have any current available scholarships for 2019 doesn't mean we won't have at least one by next April. It's highly probable that 1 or more players transfer.

I'm going to guess the fact he's averaging a turnover every 3.28 minutes plays a factor in why he hasn't played more at South Carolina.

Adding more D1 sports seems counterproductive to balancing the budget. I'd rather seem them just properly fund the sports we already have first.

With the size and depth we're accumulating in the back court I'd have to believe the plan is to play Utomi at the 4 for 10-15 minutes per game.

There is definitely some sort of balance needed. That being said I think this is a good slate of teams. All these teams are pretty much good to great, but it's not like they aren't beatable. If we come out of the tournament 0-4 we just don't have that great of a team.

With 13-15 lineman under scholarship + a few extra walk-ons odds are at least 1 of them were trained. If a preferred walk-on outperforms players we already have then maybe I'd be more content offering.

There are still a lot of players looking for a home. Worst comes to worst I don't mind going into the season with a scholarship available. There are typically a few players looking to transfer mid year. Having a scholarship available played a part in Toledo being able to land Willie Jackson when he decided to transfer from Missouri.

The Browns acquired a fair number of players this off season and still have 9 picks in the upcoming draft. I'd be shocked if any of these guys made their opening day roster.

Xeyrius Williams numbers were down last season, but the year before he put up some pretty decent numbers coming off the bench for Dayton. I'm not sure if he's a grad transfer or would have to sit out a year.

I definitely support offering an outright scholarship to attract a kicker and punter. Not a fan of offering a long snapper a scholarship.

To me it's not even an issue about the MAC. Teams in general have been shying away from the traditional big. Hell Golden State won 2 out of the last 3 NBA titles playing a 6'7 guy predominately at center.

The starting 5 of Big Dog (C), Kwan (PF), Antino (SG), Noah (PG), and Ivey (SF) was 384 inches If the Zips elect to start Poke (C), Sayles (PF), Ivey (SG), Hester (PG), and Utomi (SF) that's 390 inches Even if you swap out Hester (who I hear is more of a SG) for the shortest guy on the team (Loren Jackson), the Zips starting 5 will be 383 inches. There is even a chance Riak beat out Poke for starting C spot and that would add 2 inches to these numbers.

I'm not concerned that we only have 1 scholarship senior. History shows you can count on 1-2 players to transfer per year.

Sure he was good enough to play on a bad A10 team that was short handed much like Akron. The A10 wasn't as good as it normally is and Duquesne played the 273th SOS. Their schedule was weaker than all 12 MAC schools.

We sucked because our roster was deprived of ready to play talent. We were forced to play true freshman, who probably should have been red shirted, and walk-ons. If all those guys that played were 2 inches taller we still would have been terrible.

I feel there are a lot here that would agree with you. I'd love for Zips basketball to get a new arena, but it would be a huge waste of student and/or taxpayer dollars. If there was money to be made off a downtown arena a private developer would be bankrolling the project.

The JAR is still structurally fine. I posted a report on this site 2-3 years ago that detailed the report conducted by that independent party that conducted the feasibility study on the cost of repairing the Rubber Bowl. Long story short, the Rubber Bowl was totaled. Building a new basketball arena while continuing playing football games at the Rubber Bowl wasn't an option. The option was either build a new football stadium or disband the program. Infocision was built at a cost of $61 million. That's really cheap compared to most other stadiums built and renovated in that same time period. Could have they built it a little smaller and saved a few million? Probably, and honestly they should have. It still would have only saved a few million dollars at most. Not enough to fund a ~$70 million basketball arena.
