  1. VCU plays in a vastly more high profile conference, has made the NCAA tournament 9x in the past 13 years, and has made a Final 4 appearance. Akron meanwhile is waiting for their 1st NCAAT win. Once Akron basketball reaches the level of VCU basketball we'll have a vibrant student section too.
  2. I would have voted loss on this game 2 weeks ago, but EMU wheels have fallen off and the Zips have been playing much better defense since the start of the 2nd half of NIU.
  3. Wait a second here that is just madness. Next you're going to tell me they're going to add a headband to dress like a Zip.
  4. CNN Money has a nice write up on how immigrants have helped revitalize Akron. http://money.cnn.com/2017/02/09/news/economy/immigrants-refugees-akron/index.html?iid=hp-stack-dom
  5. What a moron. How'd he expect that comment to go over?
  6. Stumbled upon this podcast of Dambrot. It was done after the NIU game but before Ohio. Really doesn't provide anything new. He just states what many of us already believe. This team only plays defense when it has to and the key for it to succeed come Cleveland and potentially the NCAAT is if the Zips buy into playing the full 40 minutes at both ends of the court. http://www.collegeinsider.com/mp3/Dambrot_02022017082207.mp3
  7. Well that's disappointing. Back in my day (5-10 years ago) those seats were taken up by the most vocal fans.
  8. It was going to happen. Just glad we got a local company.
  9. I've already stated the kids are too far away from the action. It makes it easy for them to be distracted by their phone and other things. If they were closer, they'd feel more apart of the game. Unfortunately there is no good way of doing that the way the JAR was built. It also doesn't help that every time the fans do get into the game a timeout gets called and Akron kills its own momentum with a lame promotion (dress like a zip, hippity hop race).
  10. Speaking as someone whose been a student within the past decade, trust me they do take breaks from schoolwork and go out and have fun. Back 20-30 years ago from the way you word it sounds like that was going to a basketball game. Today that's not the case. Balsy and I have tried numerous times explaining why students don't go to games anymore, or at least in the numbers they once supposedly. But it always results in someone who went to school 30 years ago going on about how back in his day he'd would walk uphill 10 miles both ways in 3 feet of snow to attend games. Times have changed. Going to live sporting events isn't as popular as it once was. Attendance numbers are down a crossed the board for pretty much all sporting events boys at the college and pro level.
  11. You mean the TV deal that the MAC negotiated with ESPN? I'd definitely say the MAC has some say, but they choose to not negotiate any stipulations or restrictions. You'd certainly know more than I if Dambrot and the players prefer to play on a Friday in front of a national TV audience or on a Saturday in a more filled JAR. As a fan I don't like it and clearly I'm not the only one.
  12. I agree the current set up of the JAR makes it terrible to create a good student vibe. The 20 most hardcore fans are on the floor and all the regular/casual students are a mile away above the basketball hoop.
  13. I don't think anyone is trying to screw us over intentionally, but I do think we are being screwed. There are 12 MAC schools and 9 weeks in the MAC basketball season with most weeks having only 1 Friday game. The MAC could easily schedule in a way that makes sure no MAC team loses more than 2 home Saturday games.
  14. I get why our games get picked up. I was referring to how other MAC schools are able to have their cake and eat it to by getting national TV games on Saturdays (Ohio last Saturday and Toledo this Saturday), meanwhile, all of ours had to get flexed to Friday.
  15. I can live with a game here or there getting flexed, but I'm wanting to say we've had 5 home conference games altered. Three Saturday games moved to Friday and 2 Tuesday games played before the normal 7PM time slot. I wish there was some sort of cap. I see other MAC schools are able to get home Saturday games on national TV. Why do we get the short end of the stick?
  16. I'd only not redshirt Suggs if the coaching staff feels he's a clear upgrade over Edwards/Morgan. Personally I say he gets redshirted unless he wows and becomes Zips #2 back out of camp.
  17. If you sit him against Penn State, that is no guarantee he won't just turn around and get injured against APB or Iowa State. In fact, he probably has a higher chance of getting injured against those 2 opponents opposed to Penn State as he will likely get more touches in those games therefore be hit more.
  18. Figured I'd pass it along in case any of you season ticket holders missed the email.
  19. I'm with you. I just hope my heart can withstand the full season the way every game seems to come down to the wire.
  20. Yeah, I wasn't including them in my statement. The jury is still out on them.
  21. It's not saying much, but out of the many Browns GMs that they have had since '99, he was probably the best.
  22. He got the 6th year. http://www.gozips.com/sports/fball/2017-18/releases/20170208dvklby
  23. I don't think Kwan and don't take many 3's belong in the same sentence. He leads the team in attempts.
  24. As 1981 grad indicated it was designed to go to Big Dog. Big Dog said he didn't set up any closer to the basket because he felt him leaving his normal spot on the court during inbounds plays would let Ball St know the ball was going to him.
  25. Personally, I feel MAC POY should go to the MAC's best player, which I feel Big Dog is. However, if the season ended today, I believe based on past voting behavior that the voters would choose Keene. Still games to be played so things can change.
