  1. Yeah, I don't really feel that article applies to Akron that much. Akron's problem isn't that students are attending the game in masses then can't afford to attend once they graduate so they watch the games at home or a local bar instead. Their problem is that students aren't attending period and the alumni aren't watching the game period. Unlike OSU where you are paying $75 for nosebleeds, you can get 30 yard line lower bowl GA tickets for $10/piece (with season tickets) and numerous times I've had strangers give me them free. Not only are alumni not attending, they aren't watching from home nor the bar either.
  2. 13 players seems like a really small class. 85 scholarships divided by 5 classes equates to an average of 17 players per year assuming 100% of all freshman redshirt. When you factor in players dropping out of school, leaving via transfer, or leaving early for the draft that number is likely closer to ~20 new scholarship players we could get per season. I wonder how many of out allowed 85 scholarships we are using?
  3. Not to mention the whether. It's much better taking to the streets when it's 80 and sunny compared to when it's 25 and snowing.
  4. When you factor in the University would actually be able to rent out the new arena for midsize concerts and other stuff since it would be Akron's largest and nicest indoor venue, they both come away as roughly equally poor investments.
  5. We couldn't even sell out VCU the year after they went to the Final 4...
  6. If winning was all it took to draw decent crowds, the JAR would be sold out way more than it is.
  7. Oddly enough I felt the tailgating experience was better at the RB. Everyone is much more spread out now.
  8. No. It's all about $$$. OSU - Indiana isn't that appealing of a match-up week 8 when it is overshadowed by a lot of better conference match-ups. It's a watchable game week 1 on a Thursday when there are few to no other good games.
  9. My response was in regards to A-Zips comment, which appears was deleted. I have no problem having conversations regarding our bad attendance if it's done in a constructive manor. I just see no value in going on and on tirelessly about how our attendance is poor compared to YSU, FCS, and other G5 programs. meanwhile, not offering suggestions for how we can improve it.
  10. 33 point dogs, that's it? I'm flying out to Vegas tomorrow. I might have to stop and place a bet somewhere. Sounds like easy money.
  11. What exact point are you trying to get a crossed? Bitching about our attendance to people who actually attend games isn't going to suddenly make it improve. We all know it's bad and would like to see more people at games.
  12. Fair enough, but Indians do have highest TV ratings in all MLB so even though people don't show up to the gate, they are watching. http://www.cleveland.com/tribe/index.ssf/2017/05/cleveland_indians_have_highest.html
  13. 20 season playoff drought (Pirates 1993-2012) Playoff wins over the last 24 seasons (3)
  14. Pirates are a professional team? I thought they were the farm system for the other 29 MLB teams.
  15. We should have I believe 3 tough games in the Maui Invitational and play what should be an okay Marshall team. Have any other games been announced?
  16. In this case I've seen what Aaron Jackson could do for 3 years at Akron and the only thing I was impressed by was his character.I don't know if Riak will be better or not, but I'd gladly trade the known in Aaron Jackson (a huge liability when on the court) with the unknown player in Riak who has potential.
  17. I wouldn't be surprised to see PSU drop 50+ on our defense. I'd be stunned if the Zips stay within 20.
  18. One of my most fond game day experiences at Infocision was the 41-0 Morgan State game. The packed stadium and packed tailgate lots made it exciting despite the game itself being a snoozer. For 1 game Zips football felt big time. I think what a lot of people lose track of is many of these kids who walk around campus with OSU gear were OSU fans for ~10 years before even deciding to attend Akron. I personally didn't watch an Akron game until I was on campus as a freshman and that's true for 95% of the campus. Over time their fandom will grow if they have enjoyable experiences.
  19. Never understood why some Akron fans try to shame fans wearing OSU gear to games. Driving away people who are actually attending games is the last thing we need.
  20. People like myself will always come up with reasons for not attending. The only way to get guys like me to commit to attending more than the 1-2 games that I typically do is make the game day experience good enough that it outweighs any reason to not attend. That's why people pay the prices they do and spend the time that they do attending live sporting events instead of just watching it at home where they'll save money, time, and get a better view of the game in a more comfortable seat. I don't know what they could do to change it but 9,100 fans sitting staring at their phones in a 30k seat stadium just isn't entertaining. Edit: I'm not really a soccer fan, but I went to a Columbus Crew game a few years back and had a hell of a good time as the fans were into the game and the tailgating was top notch. Now anytime my buddy asks me if I want to go down for a game, I almost always say yes.
  21. I show up to games with the hope of watching a good game and hoping to see my team win. Losing to TCU by 40 at home doesn't sound fun to me.
  22. I typically go to only 1-2 games per year. There are many reasons I don't attend more, but poor wifi has nothing to do with it. Here is a list of reasons why I don't bother attending more: 1) I enjoy the comfort of watching multiple games at home instead of committing an entire Saturday to 1 game 2) The games that I want to see most typically are played on Tuesday and Wednesdays in November 3) The game day atmosphere is pretty terrible. I don't really feel I'm missing out on anything by watching at home.I wish they built Info smaller so that fans would be closer together 4) 2 of our home games are midweek November games and additional one is against an FCS opponent. That's 50% of our 6 home games that I refuse to ever attend There are scheduling conflicts and other stuff that factor into it too, but I'd say these are the 4 biggest factors for why I pass on a game that I'm available to attend.
  23. I wasn't referring to Woodson. If he's healthy week 1, that's great.
  24. IMO we're going to need to have success on the ground if we're going to have any chance of bowling this season. We're going to be starting the season with an inexperienced QB, we have an entirely new crop of receivers, and we have a defense I have little to no faith in. We need to be able to eat the clock and keep ourselves in manageable 3rd down situations.
