  1. delusions of grandeur
  2. We aren't even the trendy mid-major team right now. That distinction goes to 17-2 UNC-Wilmington followed by 16-4 Illinois State who recently knocked off Wichita State. We probably would gain more votes by these 2 teams losing than we would by any of the other relative P6 teams losing. http://www.collegeinsider.com/mens-mid-major-top-25.php http://www.midmajormadness.com/2017/1/24/14370256/mid-major-madness-power-rankings-week-10-gonzaga-saint-marys-illinois-state-winthrop (Note College Insiders doesn't include C-USA teams as the conference said they don't want to be a part of it)
  3. The point that I was trying to convey last week, but I was indirectly told my viewpoint made no sense. Last weeks vote was just 1 mans opinion. There are 64 other voters. Just because 1 guy from Cleveland had Akron ahead of Middle Tennessee, Utah, and Illinois State among others doesn't mean the other 64 guys felt the same. Edit: We really don't have any chances this week to pick up signature wins so any votes we gain would likely be a result of teams ahead of us losing. It's kind of hard to say if we'll pick up votes without knowing if the teams directly ahead of us will lose. The top 22 probably could all lose and stay on most peoples ballots.
  4. I like the concept, but hate the fact they only list the top 16 (Top 25%). It would be like the CFP committee hosting a show and only telling us 1 of the 4 teams in. They could at least give us a top 40-50 so that we could see what teams are in the bubble discussion.
  5. Yeah, in general I feel a lot of it stems that outside of March Madness, college basketball just isn't that big of a thing in NEO. Even the people that claim to be OSU fans probably couldn't tell you their record and name their starting 5. You'd still like to see media outlets that are viewed/listened by 10s of thousands of people per day talk positively about something their city is hosting. Not that it would convince people with no interest to go, but it might get people who were on the fence or are just basketball fans in general to fill it is worthwhile to go downtown and see.
  6. Now if they would actually quit talking about the Browns for 30 seconds to field a call about the Zips, that would be great. I personally like listening to the Bull and Fox on 92.3 the fan on my commute home from work. I remember last year the night before the start on MAC tournament quarterfinals Adam "the Bull" asked Dustin Fox (a guy who does MAC announcing on the side and self proclaimed MAC fan) who he had winning the tournament. Dustin Fox kind of shrugged the question off like it's a waste of their time talking about it. He did eventually say "Akron, because they were suppose to be pretty good." From there they moved onto talking about the Cavs or Browns.
  7. Ball State fan reporting we are on their schedule. Ball State: Home: UAB, Tennessee Tech, Buffalo, Central Michigan, Miami, Toledo Away: Illinois, Western Kentucky, Akron, Eastern Michigan, Northern Illinois, Western Michigan
  8. I don't think they can change the date of the game on 4 days notice. edit: for selfish reasons I hope the Kent game gets moved to Friday as I'll be out of town that Saturday
  9. This is where I saw it. No links were posted so idk if it's 100% accurate. http://csnbbs.com/thread-806403.html
  10. Georgia Southern is now 7-0 in Sun Belt play and sits in sole possession of 1st place. When it's all said and done this might end up being our best OOC win. Nothing to be all that excited for, but at least 1 of the opponents we bought turned out to be good/decent. Can't say the same for Radford, Coppin State, nor American U.
  11. I'm not too concerned with what FCS opponent we schedule. It's not going to make or break our schedule. Hopefully we run up the score big in the 1st 3 quarters so that our backup QB, whoever that is, can get some real game reps. Troy and Iowa State should both be challenging yet winnable games.
  12. Toledo fans are reporting their schedule was released and we are on it. Haven't cared enough to look and verify.
  13. So looking at this we are probably 3-4 weeks away from being ranked as long as we keep winning and all else remains constant.
  14. We added bodies certainly to the position, but its still to be seen if they can play at the FBS level or not.
  15. I haven't gotten the chance to watch the home broadcasts as I've been at the home games. The fact it has apparently led to us getting more of our highlights shown on local news will make it pay for itself over the long-term. I like the idea of it eventually being run by students to minimize cost and to provide students with a valuable experience that should help them in their related field. Going beyond the ESPN minimum requirements to maximize the full benefit is also great. I personally don't care enough about soccer to make the ~30 minute one way drive up to Akron for games. I would however tune into an ESPN3 broadcast from time to time to watch some of the bigger matchups.
  16. AP Poll came out and Akron stayed steady with 1 vote as I imagined. Middle Tennessee and Illinois State, who I felt should have been ahead of us before and I'm guessing are in most voters eyes, also received a vote to tie Akron. The CPD AP voter IMO jumped on the bandwagon a little early. I feel the gap between us and #25 has narrowed and we'll start picking up more votes as the weeks progress assuming we continue to win. http://collegebasketball.ap.org/poll
  17. The person that made it is a Gonzaga fan and from his comments he seems pro mid-major. He's just trying to provide an objective opinion on how he sees this playing out with the selection committee.
  18. I stumbled a cross this on reddit. It lists the at large resumes for relevant non P6 teams using Kenpom.
  19. You'd have to add at least 1 loss if you're insinuating Akron as an at-large team. Certainly no other MAC team would remotely be in a position to make tourney without winning the MAC tourney. A 30-4 Akron team I'm guessing would get in, but I don't see us going 18-0 in MAC play. We still have 7 road games left to play.
  20. The best solution IMO if there was actually a long enough waiting list for the lower section is that you track how often those lower bowl seats are scanned. Anyone that doesn't attend 66% or more of home games is subject to lose their seats at the time for renewal and someone on the waiting list gets them. I believe the lower bowl sold out just shortly before the start of the season so I doubt there is a waiting list, but if we ever actually grow one I feel this would be the best system.
  21. If only we could hit free throws...
  22. And fouls per minute
  23. The mass exodus of people I saw leaving the JAR with 3-4 bobbleheads when I was walking in was pretty incredible.
  24. Those freshman decommits shouldn't impact this season as I'm guessing the vast majority of them wouldn't have seen the field as true freshman. WMU lost some seniors (all schools do), but they also have a lot of held over talent from Fleck having the #1 MAC recruiting class 3 years in a row. Akron lost its 2 best receivers, perhaps best o-lineman, 2 starting DE, and #1 corner so its not like Akron's coming out unscathed. Unless there is a mass exodus of transfers, I'm feeling WMU can get to 7 wins. I don't see Akron getting to that total, but would love for them to prove me wrong.
  25. Yeah, the 1 vote we did get was from a local AP guy (Cleveland). We are a far ways off from getting enough people to buy in for us to be ranked. Win another ~5 games while ACC, Big 10, and other power conference teams continue to beat up on one another and then we should be in the discussion.
