I still say WMU wins more games this season than Akron...
-
Its not like Mid-Majors are getting at-large bids under the current format. Edit: But yes, I'm sure Ohio's AD, 1 of the 2 guys spearheading this, is looking to screw over all mid-majors.

I don't see the selection committee going away in basketball. At the end they will still be the ones making the picks. It's just been a pretty known fact for years that RPI is outdated and is a pretty terrible metric. They are just looking for a new formula to be the go to like RPI once was.

It appears the selection committee is looking for a new metric to help standardize the process. http://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/18468008/ncaa-tournament-officials-meet-analytics-experts-consider-creating-new-metric

Zips @ Buckeyes — March 15th 7pm on ESPN
kreed5120 replied to ZippyRulz's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Odds are looking pretty good OSU finds their way into the NIT. I'm praying and hoping the Zips don't join them. As fun as it was to play them last year, despite the sloppy play on both sides, I have my eyes set on a bigger prize. -
We'll be better than 125/128 if for nothing more than the fact the University will buy tickets to make sure we stay over 15k threshold to maintain FBS status.

This is what I was meaning when I said Akron needs to mix up the boring same old entertainment and bring in new acts.

There is always a trickle down effect. If a player normally would have went to OSU but elected to do this semi-pro league instead that means OSU would instead take a player that went to MSU. MSU would then need to take a player that would have went to Minnesota. Minnesota would then take a player who would have otherwise went to Cincy. Cincy then takes a player that would have otherwise went to a MAC/C-USA or lower profile G5.
-
If the league flops, it will be terrible for the players. They would have declared themselves pro therefore couldn't return to CFB and they wouldn't be draft eligible for 2 additional seasons. Even if the league was to succeed you would be seeing some players cut from teams after 1 year to make room for some up and coming 18 year old. Where is that player to go?
-
TBH I expect the league to flop. A big reason why college football is as successful as it is is because of tradition and each school has 100,000+ living alumni that have a connection with the school not to mention the people that might not of went to college perhaps had a sibling, parent, kid, cousin, etc. that went there.

I'm not asking for a 3rd top 10 game. We played 2 top 10 teams then played nobody else in the top 100. I'd more so be looking for some team that I'd expect to finish in the 25-50 range. It's why I mentioned Cincy and Pitt specifically. It's been a while since I can remember either being a top 10 team, but each are normally very solid teams.

No offense taken. My apologies for misconstruing what you were saying.

@Zipgrad01 it appears the cavalry I was forewarning you about has arrived. Not all of us shrug these things off, I certainly don't. As I've stated before I feel had we finished the season as strong as we started it, I don't think we would have seen as much as we did make it to social media. If we get back to winning a lot of these things will fix themselves. Keep losing and the voices will just get louder. Edit: Adjusted
-
That's assuming we were on his radar in the 1st place. What's a good sign is when we are able to beat out Cincy for a recruit/transfer that they actually want. I think that's the message you were wanting to try to convey.
-
In general I feel when things are going good and you're winning, players are less likely to take to social media to voice their petty concerns. When things are going bad finger pointing happens and players start wanting out.
-
You opened up a can of worms with this post. Enjoy the backlash from the fans that think Bowden is God's gift to Akron football.
-
What did the Zips in is they only have 1 OOC top 100 win (Marshall 74 RPI/ 99 Kenpom) and 0 top 50 wins. Akron needs to schedule better OOC if it ever hopes to get an at-large even if it means sacrificing a home game to collect a check to play at Pitt, Cincy, or wherever.
-
Last week it had Akron in as a 12 seed and now it has Ohio in instead as a 14th seed. It's too early in the year for me to care about this kind of stuff.

He already had his degree when he transferred to Akron from Michigan

I expect Big Dog to be doubled so I went under on his 16 points, but went over on the 11 3s as Big Dog will be dishing out the assists.

Zips @ Central Michigan (Keene to NBA draft)
kreed5120 replied to Dr Z's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Big Dog getting to 33 points had just as much to do with the pace of the game as it did with WMU deciding to play him man. I wouldn't expect him to hit that number again as nobody in the MAC will run that level of up-tempo. The best way of guarding the Zips is playing Big Dog man, assuming you have someone big enough to slow Big Dog down. Fortunately for us there are few to no teams in the MAC that do. -

Honestly I feel we got the best CMU had and we STILL won. All this Zips team has done is win and still people find things to complain about. -

I wish Akron really had the 2nd best D in the conference. If we did, combined with our offensive firepower, we'd steamroll through MAC play. Of course basing a teams offensive/defensive numbers without factoring in pace/SOS is a highly inaccurate measure of team strength. -

I agree we will lose a game or 2 along the way that we shouldn't, but I don't feel that it will be tonight. Big Dog should be able to carve this defense up. It will just be a matter of if our shooters can knock down their open looks when they get them, which should be often. CMU is a 1 man wrecking crew offensively. Rayson is averaging a respectable 18 points per game, but that is coming on an inefficient .346 shooting. The focus should be getting the ball out of Keene's hands (easier said than done) and force someone else to beat you. -
With those G5 teams being predominately MAC schools. Odds look like we either will get him or we will be forced to play against him the next 4 years.
