  1. I'm looking at the latest Lunardi bracketology. He currently has us set-up for a rematch against WVU. If this game was to happen, I'd hope Cleveland would host.
  2. You're wasting your time. People (democrat or republican) don't care about facts if it doesn't fit their political agenda. If politics must be talked about on this forum, can we please limit it to the off topics section?
  3. Yeah, that Akron team being left out was a catalyst for either the CIT or CBI tournament to be created. I can't remember which.
  4. Out of curiosity, where can one find Akron's all-time leaders in stat categories?
  5. The thing with ESPN is I don't think you're able to split out the conference only stats to see which players have performed best in conference play. It just groups the entire season together.
  6. Buffalo is probably the team that scares me the most. I feel they just match up really well against the Zips. We have absolutely no bigs with the size, speed, strength combination to match up against M'Balla. There are other teams that could beat Akron in a 1 game format, but none of them in particular scare me like Buffalo.
  7. Yes, any team that wins their regular season conference title, but doesn't make the tournament gets an auto-bid to the NIT. The change came in 2017.
  8. When I wrote that I would have had X and Cheese as the 2 most likely Akron players to make 1st team All-MAC. Cheese IMO is still in the discussion for one of those other 4 spots. Xeyrius might be able to get a 2nd or 3rd team if he has a strong finish. I can't recall ever seeing a Zip improve their game year over year more than what LCJ has done this year compared to last. At this point LCJ has been playing at an extremely high level for about 2-3 months so I kind of just take it for granted that he'll keep doing what he's been doing. For that reason I still think X is the wildcard. If he returns to the player he was mid-January, Akron IMO is by far the best team in the MAC and would pose a threat to any 4 or 5 seed that we may face in the tourney (if we're fortunate enough to make it that far).
  9. I'd be more interested in a doubleheader if the women's team was actually good. Even worse this team plays a heavy number of seniors and is still bad so it's not like I'd be watching a young team develop into being good.
  10. Earlier in the year it seemed a lot of Sayles touches came in post up situations. He has always displayed great footwork in the post, but his issue was finishing at the rim. He has seemed to have found what works from him on offense by cutting to the basket, catching the ball in traffic, and finishing at the rim. He seemed to play with great effort on the defensive end and actually boxed out. He's a much better defender than Reece. He looked like a guy who was hungry to play and made the most of his opportunity. I'm guessing that's why Groce decided to just leave Reece on the bench with 4 fouls instead of putting him back into the game.
  11. The only cross division game left is CMU-Miami and that's because that game got postponed. Each team plays the other 5 teams in their division these last 5 games. Realistically Akron is going to finish with a top 2 seed. I'm greedy and want #1.
  12. We own the tie-breaker over NIU, CMU, and Ball State. The magic number to stay ahead of the later 2 is 2. Kent and Buffalo currently have the tie-breaker over us, but we have a chance to even the season series. It would take a complete meltdown for us to not get a top 4 seed at this point. If we go 4-1 with one of those 4 wins being @BGSU, we win the #1 seed. A 3-2 finish would require some help.
  13. I don't think anyone (self included) were trying to force him out of town. It just seemed he completely fell out of the rotation and I can't imagine many players want to ride the bench their senior season. He took advantage of his minutes tonight and deserves minutes next game.
  14. This is part of the game where good teams pull away. Let's see if Akron has it in them.
  15. You called it
  16. I've been impressed with Sayles this game. He's playing great on both ends of the court.
  17. I actually feel we got some productive minutes out of Tribble and Sayles.
  18. Yeah, these announcers must be blind. Xeyrius gave him plenty of room to land. Kicking your leg straight out isn't a normal basketball move.
  19. This is good news for us. We lost a lot of talent at WR, which was probably the position we were deepest at last season. I'd expect Williams to be a bigger part of the offense this season than what he was the 4 games he played last season. Hopefully we have a o-line that can actually block that way we get the ball out to our playmakers in open space.
  20. It was certainly underutilized for a number of years because A) it was a new foreign concept to coaches and B ) players didn't grow up practicing it so they weren't as good at shooting them as today's players. I'm not going to pretend to know whether or not Joe could have made it in the NBA. I wasn't even born yet when he was at Akron. I was just making it known that the 3-point line did indeed exist.
  21. For my fellow degenerates out there I see Akron opened up at 8.5 point favorites. I'm going to say Akron wins but doesn't cover. I'm going the over on 141.5.
  22. The NBA added the 3-point line in 1979. Joe graduated Akron in 1984.
  23. LCJ unsurprisingly named MAC East Player of the Week. https://gozips.com/news/2020/2/17/mens-basketball-jackson-earns-third-mac-weekly-honor.aspx?fbclid=IwAR12-RRqFkfmeXgGH3gUa2A8i7ZI5hqCDJEzXKxSm1lK89urlyjObgCOHbM
  24. 7-17 (1-11) Fordham just missed a 3 that would have sent the game to OT...
