  1. We're not getting anything out of our starters besides LCJ.
  2. We really lost our composure these last 5 minutes.
  3. Last time these teams faced off Akron had a pretty terrible offensive first half. Groce told the Zips at halftime to attack the hoop as BG was conceding the driving lanes in order to run the Zips off the 3-point line/ball pressure LCJ. It will be interesting to see if Huger takes that same approach this game since the Zips kind of figured it out last game. I'm going to guess he'll come out with a different plan.
  4. I don't think his Duquesne team is as good as Akron this year, but I'd say it's better than BG or Buffalo. What we're seeing here is a #2-#3 team in the MAC translates to being the #5 or #6 team in the A10. He isn't going to win the A10 with MAC level talent nor is he going to build a resume to get an at-large with it. He certainly needed the TDM, Hughes, and Weathers type players to get Duquesne back to respectability that way he'd have a chance of landing some better players. It's still to be seen whether or not he ends up getting them.
  5. Frankly I'm just not going to watch youtube videos of some random high school kid who might not even attend Akron. Based off the qualifications that you listed and his 1/2 dozen D1 offers, he seems like he would be a solid get and I can see why Groce offered him. If he commits I'll actually take a look and offer an opinion on the impact I feel he can make. In the meantime I still appreciate hearing updates in case he does commit.
  6. I'm probably more confident in this game than I should be. I just don't think BG is as good as their record indicates. As I mentioned earlier, they are 7-0 in MAC games decided by 3 points or less. I'm going to go Akron by 5.
  7. Kind of surprised to hear the line shifted 2.5 points in such a short amount of time
  8. First Team LCJ Turner German Teague Jayvon Graves Second Team Cheese M. Jackson Preston Flowers McKay/Pippen/Willie Jackson
  9. It just becomes really tough to beat the Boeheim zone when you can't knock down your open 3s. In years past we have had some decent quality bigs, like Big Dog, that we could post up at the top of the key and have him pick the defense apart. We just really don't have that player this year.
  10. It's not like we shot the ball all that particularly well when we beat them by 15 at the JAR. The key is to pressure the ball handler and force someone other than Turner to beat us. Frankly, I don't believe this BGSU team is all the great. They just seem to find themselves on the winning side of a lot of close ball games. In 1 possession games during MAC play their record is 7-0. For comparison we're 2-2. I don't want to say we can't lose as anyone can beat anyone on any given night in the MAC. I do think in order for BG to beat us we'd need to have a poor shooting night combined with 1 or more of their role players going off. I can't see Groce letting Turner beat us.
  11. Earlier in the season he appeared in the conference only stats, but it didn't include one of his games. It's like instead of just adding the missing game, they decided to remove him entirely.
  12. Akron is 37-25 all-time against Bowling Green. We've won 29 out of the last 32 match-ups. https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/play-index/matchup_finder.cgi?request=1&year_min=1950&year_max=2020&comp_school=le&rank_school=ANY&comp_opp=le&rank_opp=ANY&school_id=akron&opp_id=bowling-green-state&game_type=A&order_by=date_game
  13. Yeah, I was listening to 1350 on my commute into work earlier in the week and they had the CSU coach on. He seemed like a very likeable guy.
  14. Meanwhile, in Cleveland they're writing articles about how great 10-19 CSU is playing and how attendance at games is "booming" (averaging 1,449/game)... https://www.cleveland.com/sports/college/2020/02/from-disaster-to-progress-cleveland-state-basketball-showing-life-and-attracting-some-fans.html
  15. We still currently are #1. We'll set ourselves up great with a win Tuesday as we'll be a game up plus own the head-to-head so more like 1.5 games up.
  16. BG opened 2nd half on 11-0 run. It's now 39-35.
  17. Bowling Green trailing Ohio 39-24 at the half.
  18. Just got to go 1-0 tomorrow.
  19. Kent has lost 4 out of their last 5. If the season ended today they'd be a 6th seed. If they keep it up they may find themselves playing a 1st round road game.
  20. There are only 36 at-large spots. Those teams won't be passing the MAC's auto-bid. They would be passing other at-large teams. The highest seed Akron can realistically get is a 12 seed, which is below the bubble line.
  21. Akron is already below the 85 scholarship count. I believe we could have another 25 scholarship class this season and we'd still be below. If nothing else those Bowden guys can provide depth until they trickle off the roster.
  22. I'm glad to hear he's doing well. Do you mean season high? He certainly had games of more than 23 points when he was here.
  23. Liberty, North Texas, SFA, UNI, & Yale are all near us or above us. The more of those teams that lose their conference tournament, the better our odds for an improved seed.
  24. Good to know. I was under the impression the 1st/2nd round locations were subject to change as the committee tries to keep top 4 seeds close to home when possible. Edit: losses to #243 Norfolk State and #240 Quinnipiac will have that effect. Sure, they were without Turner for those games, but that's not built into the NET's calculation. If you take those two losses away, they're probably around 100.
  25. I didn't attend a football game this past season.
