If Akron wins final two games (14-5), they are #2 seed even if Kent wins their last two. Miami beat Ball State this season so would be an Akron v Miami first round. If Akron loses one (13-6), they will need some help from Kent. If Akron loses to Buffalo and beats Miami, they would need Kent to lose to Ohio and beat Buffalo and then have BG beat Ohio to get back to #2. Now if Ohio wins both games and finishes at 11-5. they would have a slightly better winning % than Akron at 12-6 (or would they use a tiebreaker which would go to Akron since Zips beat Toledo once and Ohio lost). Stay tuned. Once Akron, drops from #2 seed, no idea what their first round will be...probably Kent. If Akron loses last two games and finishes season 0-4, unless there is some 3 dimensional chess going on I think the Zips are toast and time to fire up the transfer portal. Was it 2 years ago, I thought BG tanked their game at the JAR because they were already locked into a top 4 seed? Of course, Pinky said the same thing last year...game didn't matter to him.

As always it comes down to the tournament and whatever comes with that. Our "special" team may not have won their 3rd game against Ohio in the quarterfinals last year. Taking out the bottom 4 makes it a true dogfight in Cleveland. These losses shake the nerves but can anyone predict what will happen in Q-Final match ups between: Toledo/Ball State Buffalo/Miami Akron/Bowling Green Ohio/Kent State But realistically, looking at the scores today, over the past week, and who has the schedule that will build confidence going into Cleveland, the #1 and #2 seeds will be Buffalo and Toledo. The Zips with their 5'8" point guard and "the rest" just don't have a chance to even make it to the finals.

The only game set for Cleveland is Toledo v Ball State. I got my calculator out and Akron could be as high as #2 and as low as 6. Not sure who wins a tie breaker between Zips and BG. Those two wins v Kent may make the difference.

I remember last year, Groce had that team at Orange Theory, yoga, maybe paint ball and had some serious bonding going on. Ironically, LCJ is learning how important that bonding is with a new born. Groce has a new team and all that bonding and development time was ripped away by covid. I also think their COVID shutdown occurred at the worst time for them. Last year and the year before Groce would talk a lot about the personalities on the team...who sucked energy and who created energy. All that is missing this year.

Looking at the standings, technically Akron is in 2nd for the moment because of winning %. And the old East teams will eat their own for two more regular season games while Toledo rolls into Cleveland to face Ball State at Noon on Thursday. Zips could even face Kent in the first round. It's a fresh start when tourney begins. Wonder if the coaching staff will play around with lineups again looking forward to Cleveland.

LCJ had to try and save their asses. Who is the other guy on the team who was going to make some shots? Anyway, I hope there aren't these recriminations in the locker room. This season has been effed up. God only knows what shenanigans are going on behind the scenes with these teams other than Akron. No one is getting an at large big. 8 teams start fresh in Cleveland and they've all shown they can lay an egg on an off night.

It seemed like BG always had the ball and Zips were treading water. Like a football game when one team is trouncing in minutes offense is on the field. Groce was prophetic when he said st this point teams are either going way up or way down. Last year Zips flopped at BG then came back at Buffalo next game. However, these guys don't have last years swagger or grit. They get to Cleveland maybe a 5th seed and face BG in first roundb is what it looks like. A big loss Tuesday likely. Buffalo brutal underneath. These guys cant match up. Hopefully, get some momentum from Miami game.

excellent post. Look at the MAC tourney rules posted on their website or I linked in the mac tourney opinion thread. a team could be dropped and WMU replace them if it's outside 48 hours. If within 48 hours opponent gets a bye.

3 inconsequential and blow out games on the MAC agenda today: Miami at Kalamazoo Hurons head to Hocking Hills And Keno Davis (who still has 3 years on his contract) leads the Chippewas (who just lost by 50 to Miami) into Niagara Falls to take on the Bulls. They would have more success going over the Falls in a barrell.

They were pretty bad when Zips played them in Cayman Islands. Zips got an extra game at Rocket Mortgage out of this. Hope they can draw from that.

It's got to be brutal on Danny Pippen and his bad knees. Ironically, I think Ball Stare has a luxury double decker travel bus which they haven't had to use for a month or so.
