The lack of boxing out is concerning especially for Hunter. He is the biggest perimeter player in college basketball.
Zips loss aside, it was a great event with 3 great match ups. It seemed like the big arena really threw off the shooting for all the teams. The Bucks were at 13% from 3 at the half and I believe both them and WVU were well under 40% from the field at the half.
I should have mentioned that with the attempts to get him minutes at the point last year behind X, I really thought Tavari would be a factor. I wasn't expecting huge stats, but I thought he would be someone that could come in an make some open 3's when called upon. That ship appears to have sailed.
They play hard and appear to be giving their best effort, but neither provides any threat of offense. Other teams lay off of them and neither has shown they can regularly hit an outside shot consistently. We got spoiled watching X and LCJ these past years, but as of this post there is not PG on this team even close to being a regular offensive contributor.
I hope so. They were down last year as well. Also, no Taylor Made or Summa ball toss, no $10K putt at halftime, no Tim Miller sponsored 3 Pointers (that has been gone for a while), no Gionino's T shirt toss, no strong sponsorship presence at all.
Huggins and Wyatt Webb are down as well (I'm talking about the 4 large banners that used to be in the corners of the JAR not the ones in the rafters). Also, all of the photos of Zips Athletics Hall of Fame by the exit are gone, all of them. Instead, they put up a TV that usually shows one photo of the football team and one of Enrique. It has a real "I'm only concerned with the future and what I build not the past" vibe to it.
I think so. He seldom gets mentioned and I think a lot of Zips fans do not realize how great he was or even that he was. Also, the way our AD is taking down banners of past coaches and all the Zips HOF photos in the JAR who knows how long any of those banners have.
The Cricket was the most underrated Zip of all time. He had the best handles I have ever seen in the JAR and when they played those great Cleveland State teams, he gave Mouse all he could handle. I'm glad you brought him up in this thread. He was the purest PG I ever saw in the blue and gold.
Two great matchups for the Zips to start the season. With those two and then heading to a tourney, I have no problem going D3 in between.
This Zips team is incredibly athletic and deep. When Ali gets back it only gets deeper.
My only goal for the next game against the 'Berg is a couple Wilson 3's.
