U Mass Lowell Riverhawks
ZipsVoice replied to TennZip's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
Guess we can wait a few more matches....especially since it's going to be NINETY DEGREES tomorrow... -
That's the spirit, Buckster...

Thanks Hilltopper but it was before the Pelican Cove. I read that aricle, and it left lots of holes in the area out there. This was during the Draft House days. And the Draft House was a precursor to FTM.

It also sucked to get up at 5:45 this morning to watch your daughter run a marathon. I need a nap before kickoff...and Kent State STILL sucks...

Ain't that the truth? Started with kids playing indoors and thrn the Force cam to Richfield so we bought tickets and thought it was the best. Then came High School soccer and I finally started paying attention to REAL soccer and....well, you know. -

Used to watch Otto play indoors for the Cleveland Crunch and Force. He and PJ Johns, both keepers. I think they are also doing espn3 for the women's game following... -

Since there are a few oldsters on this board (like myself) I thought maybe somebody would remember a place's name for me.. Back in the mid 70s we used to go out to 619 to the Draft House to hear some of our favorite bands play and drink 3.2 beer. But there was another place on South Main street, south of Killian, right on the lake, where the Pelican's Cove ended up being. I think it was the old ballroom for Sandy Beach Park. It also used to have teen dances on Sunday nights. Anyone remember, and if so, anyone remember the name of the place?

And he is always at the "less popular" sporting events as well. I've seen/talked to him at women's soccer matches this year, at swim meets, at track and field meets, both indoor and outdoor. He's been at the MAC softball championships last May,. He gets around and he connects...with fans and with students.

What the hell is a finesse Gang?

This has been the strangest schedule I can remember in the last 5-7 years. I know the MAC and the need to play higher ranked teams for SOS purposes are a factor, but it's almost like this was put together haphazardly. 4 out of 5 on the road to begin with, lots of two-a-weeks, not blaming anyone, but is this a coach's decision, the Athletic Department, who actually sets the schedule once the MAC dates are known? Is it like football where OOC schedules are made years in advance?

Sinisa Ubiparipovic retiring
ZipsVoice replied to Zip_ME87's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
I loved to watch him play, and got to know his family a little while he was at Akron and he and his brother were playing for Mentor High School. Plus - I loved to say his name! After you got the rhythm to it, it just rolled off your tongue. Was real glad when he transferred from Illinois-Chicago. Twice an All-American, a MAC Player of the Year. Maybe will be in the Akron Hall of Fame some day? -
That's okay Cykron, at least your coach didn't come out and say that beating Northern Iowa was just like beating Akron!
-
I think Skippy is close, but a little lower than my guess. I say more like 7,500 Zip fans, including our band, I think he's spot on with the ISU numbers and I think the casual visitors were in the 2,500 range.....my total guess, IMHO is 11,000.

I say we lose by a field goal, and it will not be the fault of Woodson, Ball, or any receivers, but by what always causes us to lose, stupid penalties at crucial times. I had Woodson under 200 yards passing because I don't think he finishes the game. I am probably low on the sack side, but what the heck, I'm being Mr. Negative today....

Yes his "excuse" was the hurricane, but it had nothing to do with the airport opened. He was spending time working with his foundation to help the people needing it in the Miami area after the hurricane hit. And what the heck does legal issues have to do with this? The way this University treated his entire Hall of Fame induction was a complete joke. This University should be ashamed that they did not provide opportunities for fans and alumni to make a presence in Canton for the induction ceremonies and festivities. How hard would it have been to put together a couple of bus excursions including tickets to the event for The Faithful to fill? They can put a bus trip together for a football road game, or a basketball road game. Or how about a Meet and Greet for the regular Joe Akron to attend? He paid a lot of tribute to the U during his speech and during every interview he gave. Big effing wow...we hosted his post party, but was any of the fans and lesser people in the hierarchy allowed to attend? Cykron is right, no one seemed to give a crap, because it was obvious that Akron didn't give a crap, and that what U of A did to hype the day, hype the HOF, was just perfunctory and it's a crying shame. And why the heck do people have to bring up his divorce, "legal issues", etc. Why the hate for a player that sure makes U of A lot better than it deserves some times.

2017 NCAA D1 Mens Soccer Rankings
ZipsVoice replied to Zip_ME87's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
Okay boys and girls, we have been posting from three or four sources, maybe 5 on rankings and they are WAY different from one another. I know that it depends on who is voting, but how can there be such a wide variety of #1s? Notre Dame #1 in one poll and #9 in another, Stanford #1 in one and not in the top 5 in another. Still doesn't matter for our beloved 'Roos, so far this season, but give me your thoughts on why such disparity? Please? Thank you... -

College Soccer News has us off the board niw, but receiving votes. Stanford 1, Maryland 2. Indians 3, Wake 4 and ND is 5th. Mich State is 9th, Western Michigan 14th and UM Lowell 29th. -
Absolutely right fknbuflobo, forgot about that aspect of the play.

Yeah, you're right that 2-2 was the consensus, and yeah, it was a game yesterday that I thought we had a chance to win. But it's the way we lost that gripes me. If we had played a decent game and lost by 7 or 10, but played well, then maybe my vitriol would be wrong, but it is the way we lost, with the stupid stuff, that's what galls me and makes me write the stuff I do.
-
I am dismayed at the mid-field play. Happy with the draw. My live feed was crappy, but I thought the card was iffy....you guys see it better? I am also tired of watching road games. 4 out of 5? C'mon. I know why, but I miss my Cub Cadet time...

The other reason we're "waking up" now is, we bought into the conventional wisdom on the board that 1 - you can't tell anything about this team by what you saw at Penn State, and 2 - you can't tell anything about this team by what you saw against APD. So here we are, and we got to see what it is we got - Bupkis. I wish we had Butkis (Mike that is) but we have Bupkis

I think this is my past post in this topic....6 losses in a row doesn't exactly excite. When I posted "Women Win!" I didn't expect it to just be that one game....sorry, not trying to be negative here. Last night vs. Duquesne the WSOC looked okay, but definitely regressed. I guess a 1-0 loss to yet a second 2016 A10 Champion (??) isn't the end of the world, but there isn't a clear goal scorer on this squad. Granted 8 freshman starters meant for a long season. The MAC starts now and I think maybe I was even too optimistic thinking they'd win 4 MAC games...Hope they can turn this around, lots of great people in this program.

12 penalties for 132 yards, and ISU declined two others.....an average of over 10 yards per penalty. ISU had 8, and I'm sure Campbell was pissed at that. and 6 sacks! Wow. Wow wow wow....
