Yooza! That's almost 3 times body weight. How is that even possible?

Captain? Captain? Captain? Captain?

Hutchinson CC is an amazing source of D1 players. The State of Kansas has an incredibly disproportionate amount of top JUCO players. Iowa State's QB who beat Oklahoma in Norman and Memphis in Memphis for the LIberty Bowl, Kyle Kempt from Masillon, sat the bench at Hutchinson! I'll bet a lot of schools were after your three guys. Nice job getting them to Akron.

That's impressive.

My 40 (extra pounds ) and Size 40(+) might make be better prepared to be the Alabama mascot! Seriously, I have a special respect for people who wear the mascot costume. My daughter went to Northern Iowa and their Panther mascots are somehow kept hidden until graduation (for which they wear their Panther feet!). They bring so much fun to school events, especially for kids (of all ages). Hope they get some good ones for Zippy.

Should I apply?

A Des Moines Register sportswriter is now saying that the report of Paul Haynes coming to Iowa State is "not true." Anybody hearing anything else about him? Did Cincinnati make a better offer? Or did he decide to stay at Kent State? Hahahaha on that one.

I'm much more than just a part-time Zips fan. I'm probably just a few hours per week (or a few weeks per year) short of being full-time!

I think that is over. Iowa State didn't wear its traditional uniform at all last season ("the Trojan is dead"). And Nike is developing brand new uniforms for next season. I'll post about it in an Iowa State thread when we know something definitive, but I'm predicting that it will include a black uniform, hopefully to be used in our game with the Team Out East whose colors are dirt and urine.

Yeah, but you are also an Akron fan, so your judgment is obviously deeply impaired. Just kidding. Husker fans that I know either don't know about the Bugeater name or know about it and hate it. Here is the Iowa Nice Guy taking some shots at Nebraska. P.S. Seriously, you probably have better knowledge about this than me, so now I will have to renew my research on the topic.

Its messy. As I look back at the articles, I see reference to "verbal agreement" between the AD and his candidate for head coach. But it was well-known, which is why Bill Snyder could intervene and block it. http://www.kansas.com/sports/college/big-12/kansas-state/article190600669.html https://www.sbnation.com/college-football/2017/11/16/16665968/jim-leavitt-kansas-state-bill-snyder-coach

Class action suits against school districts and universities that promote football could be devastating.

The inevitable crash of FAU will be fun to watch after all this self-promotion (that is not being voiced by any respected authority).

So, which one of you is really Terry Bowden?

Kansas State is a time bomb right now with Bill Snyder trying to make his son the new head coach, even though the AD already contracted with someone to become the head coach when Snyder retires. It is an ugly power struggle. We can't wait for Snyder (the vampire who appears once per year to such Cyclone blood) to retire. He was won so many close games in so many freaky ways against us! Taking a job at Kansas State right now if rolling the dice on what will happen next, though Hickson is probably more safe than anyone else no matter what happens.

Is that like dwarf wrestling?

Interesting. I haven't been paying much attention to the search, but I assume that this might be to replace Lou Ayeni, RB coach who took the same job as Northwestern. I'm sorry to see him go. Northwestern is his alma mater and his wife is from Chicago. Ames is not Chicago (I write from Skokie, adjacent to Evanston). I suspect there is more to the story, such as a better path to OC at Northwestern than Iowa State (where the OC is Tom Manning a Mount Union friend of Matt Campbell). Still, it is hard to imagine Ayeni leaving Iowa State. He is leaving the cupboard full. Ayeni "led" Matt Campbell to Iowa State by leaving Toledo first and bringing one of the guys in the RB room (Mike Warren, freshman offensive player of the year in the Big 12 three seasons ago). I've talked with Ayeni about being significantly responsible for Campbell coming to Iowa State because of the communication he maintained. He didn't deny it. And then Campbell brings David Montgomery. RB Coach for Iowa State is a really good job right now because he would be walking right into one of the best RB rooms in the country, featuring David Montgomery (first team All-American by Pro Football Focus based on analytics, not votes) and plenty of other talent. If our o-line can block better, Montgomery could have a Heisman-caliber year. It has happened before for Iowa State. See Troy Davis, the only RB with back to back 2000 yard seasons. And that was on a team that didn't have anything else, so everyone knew that he was going to get the ball every time. We will be talking much more about Montgomery and the other RBs as the fall approaches.

USA Today released its grades for college football programs (rather subjectively related to "reaching their potential"). Akron got a B+ and was listed first in its grade level because of alphabetical order. Iowa State got an A. Nice to see both teams get some recognition for seasons that were beyond just about everyone's expectations.

MAC releases 2018 opponents home and away
Cykron replied to 94zipgrad's topic in Akron Zips Football
Your non-conference schedule is the Cykron trifecta! I was born in the University of Nebraska Medical Center (albeit in Omaha), right now I'm in Evanston, and I'm an Iowa State fan. And I married into an Akron family (that must be the powerball)! Go Zips, except when in Ames. -

When does the MAC announce dates for these games? Or is it announced by the teams themselves? I'd like to try to make the game at Buffalo, particularly if it is on a weekday night. -
How about Top 10 players Bowden has coached against while coach of the Zips? Two on the list could be running backs coached by Matt Campbell: Kareem Hunt and David Montgomery. Actually, a Top 10 list of just running backs would be a pretty impressive list because it would include Barkley and a few other also-rans from Columbus.

Wow. A thread resurrection from 10 years ago. That has got to set some sort of record. Did you seriously remember that there was a thread about this 10 years ago?

Any chance that your game at Nebraska moved to Thursday or Friday (MACtion-like)? Probably not as Nebraska is a stickler for tradition, albeit tradition that is really ancient history. I would love to drive over to Lincoln and watch you give it to the Bugeaters. Yes, "Bugeaters" was one of their early team names and they aren't fond of it. There is plenty more where that comes from. You can thank me later.

Oh yeah, he would survive. The one most fans care about the most is the TOE ("team out east" as he calls our in-state rival). I think he would prefer to get a shot at Oklahoma early in the year. Also, we start with South Dakota State, so if you are referring to us losing all our games up to and including yours, we would be 0-4. It is hard to imagine because we are going to be better next year. Our success this year was a bit "ahead of schedule."

I had forgotten that we play Oklahoma before you. Interesting fact: the last time we beat our Oklahoma (a conference member) in Ames . . . JFK was President! It may be the most lopsided "rivalry" in all sports. We could beat them for the next 68 games and still only make the series even. Our current record with them is 6-74-2!
