UA buys the Plasma building!
Big Zip replied to ZachTheZip's topic in General UA & Campus Discussion
I'm not big on Chipotle but I know most folks are....with that in mind I like Qdoba better and if Chipotle isn't going to open one there for fear of cannibalizing their other stores (I'm not buying it by the way) come and feed these hungry fellows! -
I don't care if we lose by 1 or 50 it is still a loss. I see no point in playing guys who are playing like they don't want to be here or want to win. Oh if losing only meant we only got a high draft pick!

Randy Aerhart of the Ripper Owens Tap House owned Dr. Feelgoods....this all feels like deja vu to me. I'm hoping it will be some sort of retail on that corner. I have to imagine a Chipotle on that corner would be a license to print money. With a bar on one side (stay open late) and a head shop on the other they might need their own bank to house all the cash. -

I'm done with the program if they drop to Div 1AA. I'd rather stay home and watch Div. 1 football on TV. I'm not asking for a BCS school I'm asking for being simply a better Div. 1 MAC program. YouTube Tom needs to make an appearance explaining what we are doing. If die hards like the people on this board are ready to throw in the towel it might just be over. He may have successfully killed the program. Maybe that is his intention ala "Major League" make us so shitty he has an excuse to drop us to a lower level. They won't get another dollar out of me. One more question for 1350 guy....the die hard Akron fans are now saying your team should drop to a lower level of competition. How does that make you feel? What would you like to tell them? -

RACER....in case you didn't notice this has nothing to do with the OOC schedule....we just lost to effing Can't State. This team also lost to a Div. 1-AA school I don't care about OOC wins and losses against BigTen schools. I do care that this team has the opportunity to go winless this year and I think the possibility is very real. I think we might as well have kept paying LO the last seven or eight years....the product on the field is barely different. We are actually worse now then at any other time in Div. 1. I hated LO, but I'm watching a team that would get the crud kicked out of them by a LO team. I'm watching a team that would have got their head kicked in by last year's Zips. I would love to see someone ask ICoach some frank and candid questions. I want some reporter to be blunt with him and ask him...After 6 games your team has yet to win a game and has lost to a Div. 1-AA team do you think you are qualifed to coach this team? Tom Wistricill hiring of you is looking pretty bad right now. What do you think you need to do to restore confidence in his decision? This team returned a lot of starters from last year and they fired last year's coach who actually won games. How much rope do you deserve? Did you know it was going to be this difficult being a head coach? Are you in over your head? Do you really think your pro style offense is the right offense to be running in college? What do you tell the fans of the Zips who are six games in to your tenure and already calling for your firing? How many fans do you anticipate seeing in the stands for the remaining three games (actually bodies in seats)? -- 1350 AM guy those are all free of charge get some balls and actually ask the tough questions. -

72 Roo I couldn't agree with you more, but I think you are preaching to the choir. The people running this athletics program are getting paid good money to destroy it. We are paying money to watch the destruction. I can honestly tell you I'm not sure if I'll be in attendance for a game the rest of the season. All three games are scheduled to be on TV...which I was told earlier this year will not impact attendance - yeah right. Imagine how those three games are going to look on TV with literally 100s of people in the stands. I can't imagine being there in person if the weather isn't perfect. I know my wife will tell me I'm crazy and will not be joining me. This problem started with hiring an AD people thought little of and then watching him turn around and hire a Coach people thought even less of. Now we are stuck with both. Funny how when LO was let go I never in wildest dreams thought seven years later we would be wondering if this program will win a game this year. We have done everything we thought we needed to become a big time program yet nobody seems to have a clue how actually hire a coach that can turn this thing around. There are no excuses anymore. -
Zips football has never had a defeated season in their Div. 1 history. Have we ever had a defeated season outside of Div. 1? This team appears to be regressing.

Certainly has the pedigree as he's Cliff Stoudt's son. Originally attended Louisville and left. Would love to see him in a Zips uniform, but I'm guessing he'll end up at a bigger program. Of course ICoach is a genius recruiter (lord knows he can't coach) so we should land him.

The funny thing our Akron's ineptitude is it is going to impact Can't's ability to fill the stands. I'm going to guess the Akron contingent which is usually pretty strong at Can't will be less than 500 this week. I for one won't be there because I can't bear to watch the beat down at the hands of our most hated rivals. If it is a 17 point betting line....I'm guessing we'll lose by 28.

In one of Caleb's interviews previously he indicated that this was what he expected from teams in the MAC. He said the Zips are small and the bigger teams try to muscle them and they need to stay on their game and make the other team change their approach. Ultimately this is one game, but this is not going to be an isolated way people are going to play the Zips so they need to get used to it and win the game. Simple enough doesn't matter if it was dirty or not they still have to win this game.

I'm hopeful he can be a good QB, but I believe as safety he could have been exceptional. I watched him play at Cuyahoga Heights and thought he was fun to watch at QB.....but a ball hawk at DB.

Blue and Gold Notre Dame hasn't been a team people fear for like 15 years. Why should Kelley be able to do what Davie, O'Leary, Willingham and Weiss haven't. I'd love to play Notre Dame. I'd love to play Notre Dame in 2012.

I am one of those folks that is not convinced PN7 is going to be a great MAC QB, but I am one that also is willing to recognize his improvement from week one. I still believe his faults are the same as I've mentioned before but he has played better than I expected. I hope I am completely wrong and he turns into the top QB in the conference. It may be difficult to determine his greatness given the WR we have that struggle to hold on to the ball. If he can continue to work on his control (I don't know what else to call it) throwing the ball to the right place with the right velocity this may tick up. I am still confused why Jalil Carter hasn't been moved back to DB to shore up the defensive backfield. It seems by taking him for the secondary and moving him to WR we have weakend our secondary and haven't improved our WR position. How is this productive? I want to see more of Gary Pride. I think he can be a Devin Hester/Josh Cribbs type of WR that can be put in multiple formations including the wildcat. I like him getting the ball on the run with his speed and think it can be an extra dimension for our offense that keeps other teams off balance. It seems like our playbook is expanding weekly and I'm hopeful this is a new wrinkle we'll get to see this week. On a side note I talked with Zach Dorazio's dad at a golf outing a couple weeks back about him playing DB and it sounds like he is plannnig on playing QB. (Time will tell.) If I'm thinking about this correctly he has been in school with the opportunity to work out and get stronger (not sure if he can be around the team) this year while he is not playing. He'll be able to join the team for spring practice, red-shirt next year (PN7's Jr. Year). His Freshman year of eligibility will be PN7's Senior year and we could have a QB that is starting his fourth year of college with Sophomore eligibility. Assuming he can play the position well that would be 21 or 22 year old kid with the ability to be our starting QB for three years. I know I'm jumping quite a few years ahead, but if it works out we could spend the next few years with PN7 at QB (steadily improving I hope) and a extremely capable replacement right behind him.

I read the article and I don't see where his response was a positive for Akron. I read it pretty similar to you, but I take a different bent. That school wasn't good enough for me and I deserve better. Can you believe I selected the first school that offered and it was a piss ant school like Akron. Listen you can tell me what you think he was saying all you want, but committing and the de-committing to a program I support is a slap in the face to me. I think he thought he was better than Akron and wasn't grateful for being offered at all. Believe what you want but I hope this is the last we hear of Dylan Ennis on an Akron Zips message board.

I could not disagree more. This was a very winnable schedule. I love the one big time game every year. I love it as a fan as it gives me the opportunity to root for my college and see a different stadium, atmosphere etc. I love that it helps our program financially. I love that upsets happen all the time and one of these times I hope it will be the Zips I love that you can use it as a recruiting tool. I love playing the lower level BCS programs regularly (Syracuse/Indiana etc.). There is no reason to think we shouldn't beat these programs. These games should be used as fodder for why you should be in a better conference...but you have to win them. These games should be checks on our programs growth. I hate playing Div. 1AA programs I hate that they are lose/lose situations. If you win you're supposed to and if you lose you suck. Losing to these teams provides more ridicule than anything. Winning counts as nothing. I give a big thumbs up to the schedule maker. This year's schedule was the best I've seen.....keep it up!

Soccer the most profitable program at Akron??
Big Zip replied to bobbyake's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
Is the Info big enough to host a soccer match if need be? I know 4,700 is a far cry from 30,000, but I feel like we get 4,700 for soccer without even marketing the team. I still talk to people pretty regularly who are surprised the Zips are no. 1 and then they ask me if it is Div. 1. I know it has been said before, but how do you tap into the 100,000s youth soccer players in NE Ohio. I know soccer was never even in my thoughts when I was growing up and those kids that do play....what if they grew up watching a team that is so much fun to watch? What happens to soccer overall in this country? How cool would it be to even get 20,000 people to a game for Zips at the Info...what a boost for the University that would be. -
Was the score 5-0?

One idea on boosting football attendance
Big Zip replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Off Topic, Smack & Jokes
I'm not sure it is going to work, but I think you need to sell the student tailgating experience. College students want a party. -
Scott are you suggesting the Zips will win a game? Or just how ridiculous defeated sounds?
-
Buck Zip I would hope you realize you are in the minority of people in this state who actually carry a degree from both schools or a even have a degree from OSU and root for them. The hatred on this board I don't necessarily think is aimed at your ilk, but more at OSU and talking about them on a Zips message board. The people on this board also direct their hatred toward the lemmings....especially those lemmings who went to or go to Akron and would rather travel to Columbus to tailgate for their game or watch it on TV then to venture across campus to watch the school they have an affiliation with. Me I'm ambivalent when it comes to OSU I just don't care. Back to the topic at hand GP1 it may have been that I was watching the game in a bar, but I'm sorry I do not share your optimism. In fact I expect this team to go defeated this year. If it all truly the players and not the coaches....why do we have coaches. This argument is as old as the hills...the players play why are you blaming the coachs -- well because I tend to think it is their job to get the best out of their players. As it was mentioned on here earlier the talk with ICoach was hired was around how the cupboard wasn't bare, but you certainly could have fooled me looking at what we are seeing now. I agree Patrick Nicely is not the guy. I'm hopeful D'Orazio gets a fair chance to play next year or at the very least is flipped to defense and allowed to compete at safety so he could start four years. All in all it is ICoach who made the decision to start Nicely and it is his staff that calls plays he can't make so you tell me how is that the kids fault. If a kicker can only kick 40 yard field goals (I wish) is it his fault when he keeps getting sent out ot kick 50 yard field goals? The one thing I was impressed with was the defense in the early going, but felt they must have tired out quickly when Kentucky just ran them over.

I actually had this discussion with a good friend of mine who went to Akron with me and will never attend a game. He called me Saturday night to say I told you to not buy those season tickets you idiot this team lost to a lousy Div. 1 AA team. He then proceeded to tell me he goes to High School games on Friday night and Saturday is to watch real college football on TV. I simply told him he may be right but I still enjoy myself at the games for the most part because we make it a family thing. I also pointed out it is harder and harder every year to write the check for the tickets and that goes for even if they charge me less. People don't even think we play Div. 1 football. They have no interest in attending an Akron game. I got him to attend the Motor City Bowl a few years ago and he had a lot of fun, but couldn't get him to go the next year. The funny thing is now when people tell me Mount Union could beat Akron...I'm not so sure they aren't right. That is how pathetic our football program has got. Finally, I was listening to the guys on 1350 on the way home from work yesterday and they were actually calling us on here with high expectations of the coach the team and the program part of the problem WTF? Because people on here have mentioned these guys are idiots and can't coach there way out of a paper bag we are part of the problem. Because we don't put a plan together for them to criticize we are part of the problem. I can't be the only one who heard these guys talking. The proceeded to talk about how this isn't a football school and how it never would be. How ICoach and YouTube Tom were great guys and were better than we'll ever know and they know because they've been around these types of guys before. Absolutely amazing. Funny thing is I listen to them and like them because they are talking Akron sports and even if they are talking about us on here being part of the problem they are talking about Akron sports and i'm okay with that. I would suggest they need to read more closely here because people have put forth many ideas to fixt the problems here...other suggestiong for AD and Coach when those searches were in place. People I'm stilll convinced would have been much better for the job. I would also point out we have also pointed out many things we can back up with regard to why we feel these guys are incompetent. The only real fact you needs is kicking off in the beginning of the game and after the half....c'mon really. Finally, Notre Dame they claim is a top tier program and that simply isn't true and hasn't been true for 15 years. Holtz left in '96 since then Bob Davie has been .583, Georg O'Leary fired before coaching a game, Ty Willingham .583 and Charlier Weiss .564....91-68 since Holtz left....not very good all things considerd and definitley not elite.

Paul Winters' offenses put up amazing numbers. It was not his offenses that lost football games for us. With the money these clowns are making to coach our team -- I'm fairly positive you could get him to come home to coach offense again and I for one would love to see the offense he ran again. This offense we said is absolutely horrible.
