Its not so much that I think that Can't sucks. Its that I KNOW that Can't sucks.10:52PM and as always

Anthony Pastore QBMacaulay Culkin

Don't know what you saw, but I specifically saw him dressed and tacking snaps in warmups prior to the game. I know he didn't play at all but he was out there in pregame warmups. I doubt he misses the Can't game.

As far as I'm concerned its not really the "Roo Zoo". It is still AK-Rowdies and always will be. There are still some bugs to be worked out amongst the students. I praticularly hated the beach ball thing b/c it detracted attention from the game at a crucial point when NTexas was trying to make a comeback. The team needed us behind them at that time and instead the entire student section was enamoured with that damn ball. I'm mostly encouraged though. The first challenge is getting students to the game which we did last night. Things can be worked out from there with other cheers and stuff like that but its hard to work on that stuff when noone is there in the first place.

I'm not TOO concerned with Can't. I'm a little more concerned than when the season started, but still not too concerned. You have to remember that Miami and BG are both trying to replace QB's. Everyone in the country knows that BG has NO defense (heck Buffalo hung 40 on them). Miami is 0-4 this year. They are definitley NOT a good team. This is a rivalry game and truly anything can happen but if you look across the board we are clearly more talented than any team in the East right now. If we can't win out in the East I would be truly surprised.

Damn straight the students rocked it most of the night (though the ADHD started kicking in in the second half when the beach ball came out j/k). Can't say that I heard anything about intentionally trying to break bleachers. They just seemed to be falling apart today. I think you could basically put those blue tarps over the whole stadium. None of the seats are safe. I just hope to god that all those students who were there tonight show up again next week at Can't and for the rest of the year at the Toilet Bowl. And bring your friends. All of them.

I think you took what I said the wrong way. I don't blame the students for the attendance. I think the turnout was great for students. I'm just saying it'd be nice to take it even a step further and get more there. That wasn't really in response to your comments or others. More of a preemptive strike in order to cut off the inevitable "blame the students for bad attendance, they don't take enough pride in their school" excuse.

My thoughts#1-DON'T blame the students for the attendance there tonight. That was a better student showing than I've seen since I've been here. #2-WOW is our kicking game pathetic. I think its time to burn Iveljics redshirt and we NEED to find a new long snapper. I've seen way to many long snaps skimming turf and that is not what we need with these new kickers.#3-Great first half by the offense, great game overall for the defense (got a little hairy in the late second/early third but all in all very good). I'm a little concerned by our inability to put together two good halves in a row on offense but not too concerned.#4-We NEED David Harvey on the field every play. This kid is electric. Every time he touches the ball something big is going to happen. JD is recognizing this and putting him on return duties. Loving it. Plain loving it.

Hoping to get there around 1-1:30 with a group of around 6 or so and a few more showing up closer to game time. GO ZIPS!!!

CMU/Kelly Accuses Akron of Holding in Loss???
Quickzips replied to K-Roo's topic in Akron Zips Football
Wow, what a p*ssy. I'm sorry but theres no other way to put that. Your stud DE didn't get held 37 times w/out a ref seeing it Kelley. What the heck do you want anyways? O-lines to not even touch him and give him free shots at the QB? This almost sounds as bad a Chuck Amato and his non-qualifiers excuses. -
Its going to depend some on the weather (as it always does around here). I still think the 15-20K range should be easily met. I've talked to quite a few people on campus who are looking to go. If we get a halfway decent day weather wise I'd expect the Bowl to be pretty full.

You know what. I hate Can't. I hate them with a fiery passion that makes me want to go out there and kill some of those damn black squirrels, set them on fire and throw them through dorm room windows. Why? Because I go to AKRON. Will you OSU sympathizers ever go down to Columbus and hear anyone saying that they need unity with Michigan b/c they are in the Big 10/11? Hell no. They would consider it treason against the University and hang whoever said them on the spot no questions asked. You know what else. I HATE OSU. I hate them almost as much as I do Can't. They represent everything that is wrong with the NCAA, College Sports and the mentality of the great state of Ohio. To cheer for them would be supporting the institutions that continue to hold back our great institution. I refuse to do that. You all can do what you want, but realize one thing. At Akron we have to fend for ourselves. Your either with us or your against us. There is no middle ground to be had.

I'm not really too concerned about Kents football program getting better anytime soon.

God guys, get off the doom and gloom side of this and enjoy the ride, however long it lasts.

I agree that there is potential for a letdown here but I don't see it happening for a couple reasons.#1-Coaching. If you watched their game against BC you know that their coach has a tendency to out-think himself and make some bad decisions. #2-Recievers. After reading comments on CMU's board it appears that they are having quite a few problems with recievers catching and holding onto the ball. An experienced and deep secondary (which we have) is going to magnify those problems.#3-QB Controversy. Ok, so maybe it isn't a full fledged controversy but they do have two QB's and questions about which one should start and even if they will stick with the same QB all game. This kind of problem can be distracting and make it difficult for an offense to get into a rythm. If this were the Lee Owens era, would I be worried about a letdown. Hell yeah I would. But this is the JD era. No letdown this week boys.
-
The second article gets at the real problem. Amato clearly had no idea who we were. Didn't even know if we won our bowlgame last year or not. Thats the sign of a coach who is underprepared and took his opponent too lightly. Keep on whining Amato, maybe it will change the score.
-
And just think, this is only his second game of the season. Imagine what this kid is gonna do to the MAC defenses latter in the season and throughout his career. This kid is just gonna flat out torch some of these soft defenses.

Centrals players keep them in it most of the game, but their coach outsmarts himself at the end with a mistimed trick play.Zips win 27-21.

Nick's Picks for Week #2 MAC football games
Quickzips replied to IBleedMACGreen's topic in Akron Zips Football
So Nick is now basing his picks on the fact that we "have yet to get that signature OOC win..." Well how defeatist of an attitude is that. Why the heck do we even bother to show up for the game then? We haven't beaten a big OOC opponent yet, Not even possible to now. -
Some of those quotes ALMOST make up for all the Beacons wrongdoings over the years.

Offical Akron vs Penn Game Thread
Quickzips replied to Ryno aka Menace's topic in Akron Zips Football
Just a few post game thoughts. Not too bad of a game considering the fact that the rain basically killed our bread and butter (the passing game). The Good-LOVED our run defense. Their big bruiser back wasn't going much of anywhere most of the game.-Kennedy looked pretty good when he wasn't already wrapped up by the time the ball got to him.-We were able to make some improvements as the game went along it seemed like.-Few new guys stepped up that I liked. David Harvey impressed me at WR, Poindexter looked pretty good at TE and I forget the LB's name that recovered the fumble but he was looking good too.The Bad-Jabari basically shut down. The frosh was really the most impressive of our WR's, that doesn't bode well IMO.-Tackling. Seemed like far too often we were content to just hit guys and not wrap up or try to make arm tackles. Granted those guys were slippery but watch Penn States Defense the way they hit you and follow through on the tackle. That was how you do it.The Ugly-Offensive line. These guys are 4 seniors and 5 returning starters? Looked like a bunch of pee-wee leaguers out there. Out of position, stupid penalties, no pass blocking to speak of. If this becomes a trend we are in trouble.-Secondary. What the HELL was with giving Penn States recievers 15 yard cushions all the game? I know they have speed, but come on this is another veteran group. They just looked so tenative and afraid of getting beat deep that they were getting beat underneath all day. When Penn State did go deep, they still got beat. At least take away the short game if your gonna get beat long most of the time anyways.-Special teams. It wasn't just the Frosh punter (who didn't do TOO bad for his first game in bad conditions), it was an all around poor effort. Poor return coverage, fumbled punts, confussion on kick returns. Man do we need guys like Hixon, Swiger and Sullivan back. I'm afraid this is gonna hurt us as much as anything this year. All things considered I'm not feeling TOO bad about this one. Looking at what NC State is doing right now I really think we can and should beat them next week. -
LOL, checked out the Can't board this morning. Those guys are already in midseason form. Their first two threads are "Fire Martin" and "Drop Football" and theres not really much of anyone objecting to either of those sentiments.

QB Matt Rodgers to Akron
Quickzips replied to rocketfootball's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
I think I speak for most when I say thanks for the heads up on the new recruit. However I also speak for most when I say that we could do without the commentary on Toledo's QB situation. It isn't really relevant to our program and comes off as another snide attempt to put Toledo (or Miami, OU, BG, Can't, etc, etc) on a pedestal above us. Its why you see very few Zip fans on MACbbs. We get tired of getting ridiculed and talked down to by fans from other schools even when we are making the simplest points about our program.Thankyou for the info again though. I think you are wrong about trying to put UT on a pedestal higher than you guys. Did you read what I said?I said that you got a commit from this guy and he had an offer from Toledo. I said that now I don't see Toledo signing a QB this year......now that two others signed with BCS schools and this one signed with Akron. If you think I was trying to put UT above Akron than you are mistaken. If that was the case, I wouldn't have said that UT offered him and I wouldn't have said that unfortunately it now looks like UT won't sign a QB. You got a guy we offered. What is so hard to understand about that?I think you guys are so used to being picked on because Akron's program wasn't great, that now you are being too damn defensive. Your program is one of the better ones in the MAC and you are the defending MAC Champions. Don't think that everything someone else posts is to put their school on a pedestal higher than Akron's. You guys are the defending MAC Champions, not Toledo nor Miami. A few things imply putting Toledo ahead of us.In recruiting when you mention the other teams that a commit had offers from it is generally in an attempt to show how good he is. By mentioning that Toledo had offered him it implies that Toledo is somehow significantly better school. As far as us having some sort of defensive complex b/c we've been picked on so long. Your damn right. And if you look at how we still get treated at MACbbs (a majority of the fans putting down our MACC is a total fluke, telling us were not that good of a team, constantly looking for ways to shoot down our recruiting classes, etc., etc., etc.) the complex is well founded. We're defensive b/c if we don't defend ourselves from the crap that gets thrown at us from every angle on a consistent basis, noone else will. Again, thankyou for the heads up. I myself and others appreciate it. Just be forewarned that when you come in here and start talking about your program (even in the context of a zips post) you are likely going to get some people pissed off. -
