ZW, you should submit your photo for the front cover of the 2010 media guide. Looks like he's taunting you guys to me! -
Akron Tailgate Lot Priority Policy
Hilltopper replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football
This is similar to what happened to Basketball parking a few years ago. As a long time season ticket holder, I was able to purchse a parking pass in lot #8 for $100. Then some brain surgeon decided that to get access to that lot, you had to make a minimum $5000 donation to the Z-Fund. I don't know about you guys, but the idea of paying $5000 for a parking pass didn't seem like such a good investment to me. So instead I pay nothing to park now and use the parking deck. It appears that quite a few other longtime ticket holders felt the same way, because the lot is mostly empty now for games. I probably would have agreed to $200 or maybe even $300, but now they get $0 from me and many others. I parked in lot #13 last year and to me its not as conducive to tailgating as #9, but hey I'm not some highpowered "professional" at athletic event planning. -
They should know. Between working at Hooters during the lunch rush and The Doll House from 7-1, those girls make a ton of money. There were 6 customers and 7 girls working at 12:30 to 1:45 pm on April 12th. I left a decent tip, but if they have to split that, it ain't goin' too far. . You were there in the off season for Myrtle Beach. Most golfers are done by then and its too early for the tourists, school is still in session.

What if something like this Happened in Football
Hilltopper replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football
Like I said in another thread, track and field coaches are the biggest gamers I have ever seen in any sport. Always looking for obscure rules violations or anyhting else that may give them an advantage. The officials were the biggest %^&*'s also. -
Your welcome. I'm sure Steve will do well in life , he has a great attitude. I look forward to seeing how his BB career ends up at UC/PA.

The doors really aren't locked, it's said that for a week but they dont actually lock the doors. Btw, a few hours ago I was playing a few pickup games in Memorial and Quincy Diggs came in and shot around for a while. Looks like he has a nice shot and a decent wingspan for his size. He was a little shy but very friendly as well. I know a few other ZN.o members were there playing and say him there too. Yep, I saw him there too. He said it's cold up here(wait til winter). A pick-up player told him he should go to Akron when he was shooting around at a different hoop(Diggs was wearing a Wichita State shirt), and Diggs says he does and he transferred. He's got a big wingspan like RootforRoo44 said, and he looks like he's a better shooter than Hitchens, maybe even better than Brett McKNight or even Steve McNees. +1 I haven't seen him shoot...but I mean any D-1 player is gonna knock down his shots with no one on him haha. We'll see how he fares against, you know, defenders. Hopefully he can step in and contribute at that 3 spot. Again, i know my way around high level basketball and i can tell you that he has a smooth stroke from outside. It's kind of like if you saw someone that had a pretty swing like Ken Griffey Jr, you'd know he's got something going for him. Trust me, this Diggs guy is a pure shooter. Thanks for the scouting report, I hope your right about his shooting ability.

EJ Thomas Hall mentioned on Glee last night

My wife and I got a good laugh at that one. -
Based on the 3 games I attended it looked like Josh was the defensive catalyst for his team. He patrolled the lane looking for ways to shut down the passing game of the other team and blocking any shot he could get his hands on. After a few minutes of the Toledo St Johns game, it appeared the SJ players were looking over their shoulder every time they went into the lane, looking for Josh to reject their shot. He still needs to put in some work in the weight room, but he should really benefit from playing on the floor with Zeke.

+1 Bonus points for no stats mentioned, right? Joe Dunn asked KD what he thought of Egner's mohawk haircut. He was 100% against it.

Knowing how marketing people think, I would imagine they wouldn't think it was a great idea. It might dilute their brand image!

I think its a sign that Dambrot is willing to make the needed changes to make the team better. I also think its an indictment of the recruiting abilitys of Jeff Boals. Other than Humpty, the other 3 would not have contributed to the Zips making it to the next level.

I saw this happen at a Suburban League track meet last year. A girl was DQ'd for have a hair beret. Track officials and coaches are real pricks, always looking for some minuscule advantage or rules infraction.

InfoCision bid for State Championship

It looks like Akron's bid is not going to be enough to get the games moved to the Info. CantonRep -
Tressel Never Quit Recruiting Howard
Hilltopper replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football
17-18 year olds hardly qualify as "Adults". Half of the 25 year olds I know still haven't grown up enough to be responsible adults. All this talk about tOSU is proof of his immaturity. -

There's a whole lot more involved in hosting the games than opening the gates to the stadium. The reason the OHSAA doesn't switch venues often is because of all the behind the scenes work that makes these events run smoothly. I hope they leave them in Stark county. Cowlumbus already has tOSU, its more important to spread the wealth. -

I hope he emulates the coaches at CMU who have made that program into a consistent winner. If he does that, he deserves to move on and we will get another high upside assistant to replace him.

Some more tidbits. Wyoming and Niagara are not going to be on this season's schedule. Niagara's coach is upset over the outcome of the last 2 meetings with the Zips, including his ejection from last years game at the JAR. Wyoming can see the handwriting on the wall and see's no benefit in getting the asses handed to them at the JAR this season. Both teams will owe the Zips $50k for breaking the contracts. As Go Zips said in his post, Abreu is coming here to play right away. Dambrot says he can play point guard and brings things to the table that none of our existing guards have shown to date. IE the ability to run the offense, penetrate and dish the ball to open teammates. Quincy Diggs will be at the 3 spot. Coach says we need a shutdown defender at that position and Diggs is the man to get that done. He will also play the 2 when the match ups are right. Of the three high school recruits, Egner is the most likely to see playing time next season. His attitude and ability to defend gives him a good shot at significant minutes. Dakota Euton will be a "stretch 4" and be able to see some minutes if his defense will allow. Green is a great shooter, but might see a redshirt to work on his overall game. The team hasn't heard from Humpty since his fathers funeral. He is devastated by the loss of his father, who raised him and was his best friend. Right now, Humpty is not sure where his future lies. Steve Swiech is set to graduate this spring and will finish out his playing career at the University of California/Pennsylvania. Steve made a great speech about how much he loved his time at Akron and will always be a Zip first. What a great kid. The team gives out awards for alumni of the year and fan of the year. I'm proud to say the Zipsnation.org member and moderator, Zipwatcher was awarded the Fan of the Year. I can't think of a more deserving fan to get this award. ZW is the definition of a true fan who is always there to support the team through good and bad.

Rasor even confirms something he shouldn't be confirming because it's dead wrong. Maybe it's a sign that his head is more into politics these days than basketball. With the departure of the three transfers and two seniors (Jimmy Conyers and Chris McKnight), Akron has five open scholarships. Abreu and the other three recruits will account for four of them. Barring another signee, guard Darryl Roberts will use the fifth scholarship, after playing his prior three years as one of the most productive walk-ons in the country. Why is this dead wrong, if you will pardon my ignorance? 13 Scholarships available. Returning players: Brett McKnight Brett McClanahan Humpty Hitchens Steve McNeese Zeke Marshall Mike Bardo Daryl Roberts Nicola Cventinovich New recruits: Josh Egner Michael Green Dakota Euton Alex Abreau ????? 8+5=13 D Roberts is already on scholarship.

Effort There, Execution Not So Much....Yet
Hilltopper replied to johnnyzip84's topic in Akron Zips Football
It reminds me of the SideSaddle-T offense. "Dike" Beede, YSU headcoach ran it and Ron Jaworski was a master at executing it. -
That may be true, but wouldn't he have to sit out a year if he transfered to another D-1 program? After all he has gone through, already sitting out because of injury, I would think he would want to play right away.
