I'm not exactly sure what you mean by "majority lead," but the play-by-play of the Zips-Zags game (link below) shows that the Zips were never more than 4 points behind until 8:15 was left in the game. The Zips led the Zags from 6:40 remaining in the first half to 13:15 remaining in the second half, or 13:25, and a couple of times after that, as well.In the 10 minutes between 16:54 remaining in the first half and 6:40 remaining in the first half, the Zips pulled ahead of the Zags 6 different times.Only in the last 9 minutes of the game did the Zags clearly outplay the Zips. For the other 31 minutes, the Zips were either leading, tied, or within 4 points.Zips-Zags Play-By-PlaySo in all of those stats do you see a major lead for Akron. I do not. A lead by 4 points is clearly not insurmountable. You can tell yourself whatever you like but gonzaga was never in clear danger of losing that game. Gonzaga played almost everyone on their bench while Akron was in their normal rotation the whole game. As it looked to me was that Mark Few was conserving as much as he could knowing that Gonzaga was going to play more games. Keep thinking that Akron is at Gonzaga's level, and that is why Akron is laughed at outside this ring of nonsense.Dave and I were actually at the Rose Garden that afternoon for the Gonzaga game. Standing in line at the concession stand during halftime, I assure you that the Zags fans were quite worried about the outcome of the game. No one was laughing at the Zips. Well me, my dad, and Andy were there, and Mark Few was not worried. Tell Dave that for me. So you saw Mark few laughing at the Zips? Why do you feel it's neccesary to tear down the Basketball program?

Not that what you wrote here is rocket science for those that understand Division I basketball...but DAMN that was well said and well written!!! My guess is I would be hard pressed to find a better quick analysis anywhere.A little inside info here, in another life, Dave in Green was a journalist! Then he spent 30 years in corporate "Communications". He better know how to put more than 2 words together at one time!

I think I heard KD say that they mostly run the 3out/2in motion. . -

I think its a typo. Dambrot is 8-3 vs UB. -
Not anymore.I hope they get it together, regardless of who operates the Team Shop.

The Team Shop at the JAR is run by the Athletic Department. The Bookstore is run by student services. Two totally different operations.

If You Are Familiar with Bobcatattack.com...

You kinda got that right Zach. The rule is that the secondary defender cannot draw a charge under the basket. In other words if Nic is guarding his man out by the foul line and the ball handler makes a move around Nic towards the basket, the other defender who has rotated into the the area under the basket cannot draw the charge. They are calling that blocking on the defender now. -
There has always been a significant subset of coaches in all sports at all levels who see intimidation or humiliation as legitimate tools of motivation or discipline. I think perhaps the question is one of degree. Are there circumstances where yelling at a kid not only can be wholely warranted but entirely constructive? Sure. Nearly all of us probably can relate a story where getting an energetic earful proved helpful in our development as human beings. But there is no question in my mind that there are a great number of coaches who cross the same blurred lines that some parents do, where what might be intended as something constructive escalates into something that can only be described as abuse.Where those blurred lines lie is not something easily described or agreed upon, but I will say that the coach or the parent that leans more than rarely on the intimidation/humiliation crutch is treading some very dangerous territory when it comes to developing young people in a healthy and constructive way. And if they don't have other effective methods for motivation and instruction in their toolbox, then they can only be described as incompetent boobs.Just my two cents.I totally agree. And in some respects, I can't wait for a player to take a swing back at his coach.Next time I see Ryan Andrick, I'll ask him how it felt.

Even the NFL is feeling the pinch from the down economy.Super bowl Ads sacked by economy

Someone check to see if Terry Marsh has any eligibility left.Anybody seen Rashon Brown lately? Coast to coast with less than 5 seconds to beat Buffalo.

I think you nailed it Zen. Joe fan in NEO needs the sure thing before they will commit to being loyal followers. All you have to do is read Zipsbandsman's post to see that very attitude.Zipsbandsman

I have to disagree with you about the economy having no effect on attendance. I own a small service type business. We are seeing huge impact from the economy. Anything that is a luxury is seeing large decreases. Disposable income is at an alltime low right now. People are saving at the highest rates seen in decades. Even those people with secure employment are scaling back on spending. All entertainment related industries are taking big hits right now. Most are just trying to hang on, but there is little expected in the way of growth predicted for the next few years. If you don't believe me I can post links to dozens of news reports to back up my thinking.

I've had more than one irate mother call me after I fired her adult child. It's always the same, how dare you fire my little Johnny, he is perfect. All I do is reply that little Johnny is an adult now, and moma doesn't have any thing to say about it anymore. It's really kind of sad.

Great defensive effort tonite. Holding BG to 17 points in the second half was impressive. Other than Jakubowski and Polk, BG didn't show me a thing. Bardo and Cventinovic kept Polk from being a factor on offense. Chris McKnight had a good all around game and Jimmy was having a dunkfest. Lots of fun at the JAR, now lets take care of Ohio.

Watcher's View:: 2009-10 Heading into Conference Play
Hilltopper replied to Zip Watcher's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Nice post ZW, us die hard fans can get a little too worked up now and again. Sometimes is just better to wait a little after such a disappointment like the URI game, before we rip the program. Win or lose, the sun will rise tomorrow and I will still be a Zips fan for life. -
I know i'm new to the whole akron experience, but i am really getting ill with all the negativity on this site. I for one am extremely excited about the upcoming season. I think RI has done a great job putting his staff together and can not wait to see the talent that he will bring into the program. What did I say that was negative? That a guy who was second team all conference would need to work on his game and therefore is a "Project", is not negative, its the truth. It seems obvious that at this point he is not a finished product. Kids his size who can play at a high level in highschool usually end up at bigger programs. When I see a thread about a possible recruit who is ready to play at a high level right out of highschool, then I will be impressed. It looks like this guy was a JD recruit anyhow. I am looking forward to next year also. I am also looking for RI to bring more to the table in terms of talent.
-
Sounds like a project to me. At 6'8' and 265lbs he would be SEC material if he could play.

The Best Thing About the Rhode Island Game

The only names that would make a difference to Joe fan would be the likes of Ohio State, North Carolina, Kentucky, Louisville, etc...
