Thank you all the work you've done over the years to keep all of us MAC basketball fans entertained. When I tried to log onto the site the other day and saw that it had gone away I was disappointed. I hope that you find the time and energy to bring it back soon.
Baring injury we should be able to win every single game the rest of the way. None of those games will be even close to the contests we faced in Omaha or Spokane. Anything can happen on the road so I think 15-3 could be a possibility.
Of all the tournaments I have attended with Zips MBB this was by far the nicest. The volunteers did a great job of making the team and us fans feel right at home. Great hospitality area.
There was a decent crowd for the home team in the second game. They started showing up after halftime of our game. I would say the attendance figures they posted were accurate. After talking to several of their fans I found out that the tournament games were not included in their season ticket package.
We gritted it out and made the shots we had to at the end. It's a miracle the UCI's coach didn't get T'd up. He was in the refs ear the entire game. Big dog didn't have the greatest game but it was enough. #55 Green was a tank but he tossed up a bunch junk shots that somehow went in. Bring on UTEP.
Because the underlying strategy of the whole game was which on of those big guys was going to win the battle of position in the paint. That battle started at about the 3 point line on every possession . That is why BD was upset at the call.
Both players had been hammering on each other the entire game. Your guy was body slamming our guy every time he tried to take a move to the basket. That push was hardly over the top. I know what BD said to the ref and it was very benign, no profanity. A good official would have just let it go.
Having had the advantage of actually attending the game and having a front row seat I would object to the idea that Big Dog and Kwan did not show any leadership during the last 8 minutes of the game. In the timeout huddles BD and Kwan were both very vocal in trying to pump up the other players. The facts are that Gonzaga is ranked in the top 10 for a reason and it took them 32-35 minutes to finally use the advantages of athleticism and home court to finally get the upper hand on the Zips. Gonzaga has the best home court wining % of all D-1 programs at 92%(164-14) . Their ability to guard BD one on one and deny him the ball anywhere near the basket was the main factor in the game. This allows their guards to cover the entire court without having to sag down for help around the basket. The size and athleticism of their guards makes it very difficult to penetrate and when it does happen there is a 7' rim protector waiting. Every single Gonzaga fan said the Zips were easily the best opponent their team had played at home in quite a while.
