I guess enough people like me are questioning why the Sheriffs expenses have gone up so much in the last few years that they have to cut staffing at the jail. The Sheriff just announced they are going start charging the communities that use their services quite a bit more in the near future. Summit County sheriff raising price of police protection If my math is right those increases add up to $3.7 million in increased funding. Show us the money Mr Sheriff and maybe we will be more interested in paying for your tax increase.

I spent several hours in Tom Parkers Common Pleas courtroom today with my sons Boy Scout troop observing cases be adjudicated. Out of the approximately 40 cases that he heard today, 35 of them were drug related. Mainly heroin offenses. Heroin is an very addictive drug and the users commit many crimes in order to fund their habit. I would wager that this is the biggest issue causing the over crowded conditions at the county jail. A good number of them had already been through treatment programs which did not result in them kicking their drug habit. Are we going to be over run with these low level offenders who are committing burglaries and other petty crimes? Unless law enforcement does a better job of arresting the suppliers the jail is going to bursting at the seams.

This topic makes me chuckle. KD came in and took over a program that except for a couple of years in the mid 80's was a total disaster at the D-1 level. Huggins had a couple of successful seasons but he was smart enough to recognize that with what UA has to offer it would be nearly impossible to compete at a high level in D-1 basketball. After he left we joined the MAC and never even made it to the post season tournament until after KD was hired. 20 tears of losing basketball. The basketball team operates on a meager budget that won't improve until the albatross that is housed at Infocision Stadium starts to produce more revenue. Considering the state of college football, I don't see that happening anytime soon. If Bowden was accomplishing what Dambrot has accomplished, people on this board would be jumping for joy. I guess after a few years of making a bowl game people would be questioning why the Zips aren't competing for the BCS championship.

I would estimate there were around 200 fans in the Club seats area for the UMASS game.

Gattis made everyone of the crap calls last night. In a 30 second span he nailed Noah for charging and then whistled him for blocking while guarding the MTSU point guard at the other end. In the pivitol final minutes of the the game, that same player bodied up to Noah so hard that he was almost knocked into the backcourt. Gattis was right next to the play but swallowed his whistle.

At this point in the season I doubt there is any playing going on outside of official practices. The players schedules are so tight there is very little free time available for pickup games. 2-3 hour practices almost everyday and games every 3-4 days takes its toll on the players bodies. When they get a day off, the last thing they are thinking about is basketball.
