  1. Harney, Diggs,Betancourt and Evans combined for 87 minutes per game last year. That's almost 1/2 of the minutes for each game. I am quite confident that Betancourt will not be getting 17 minutes a game this year. Neither will Evans get 21 minutes a game. We still will only have 3 seniors on this team including Evans. We are going to have 2 true freshman point guards and and 2 redshirt freshmen getting significant minutes.
  2. Nate will be in NE Ohio this week as his team, Tel-Aviv Maccabi Electra, will be playing the Cavaliers in an exhibition game on Sunday At 6pm. The game will be broadcast on FSO. New Cavs coach David Blatt led Tel-Aviv to the Euro title last season.
  3. The only way most of those teams will come to the JAR is if we pay them. The basketball program has had their budget cut for at least the last 5 years. KD be lives that the money he does have is better spent on amenities that will help recruiting. Things like the player lounge. Until football starts to pull their weight and start paying their way, things are going to be the same.
  4. Knowledge does not always equal wisdom Dave.
  5. Jimmal has retired from a 14 year career playing professionally in France. He has returned to Akron to finish his degree and is working as an intern in the department of development under George Van Horne. Jimmal is one of my all time favorite Zips players. Jimmal has many spots in the all time records at UA including being the career steals leader with 242. Jimmal also scored 44 points in a Zips classic at the JAR vs Xavier in the 96-97 season. He still looks like he could suit up and play for the team. http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jimmal_Ball
  6. I would describe this kid as shorter version of Zeke. A rim defender with an offensive game that is a work in progress. I understand that he has only been playing basketball for a few years so he is a blank slate that the staff can mold into a viable D1 player.
  7. Big Shots Camp Rick McFadden hard at work.
  8. Here's another highlight video from the local TV affiliate. Looks like he has a pretty good offensive game to me. Lots of nice footwork around the basket. Local TV http://bcove.me/u9gbrpwf
  9. Wow! The kid hasn't even started his Senior year in highschool and you have already written him off based on one video.
  10. If Joe does, he will be looking for a new job soon.
  11. People on this board bitch about this strategy when the basketball program does the exact thing you just described. I personally agree with it. I am a realist. Akron is never going to win a national championship in either sport. I would prefer that we schedule teams we have a chance to beat. It's more fun to win no matter who the opponent. Just MHO YMMV.
  12. I saw a couple, but overall you are right.
  13. Yesterday we didn't have March, Brumbaugh, Hundley or Chisholm. None of them played a down due to injury. We don't have enough depth yet to overcome the loss of so many starters. It was a game of opposites, Marshall played as good as they possibly could and the Zips played as bad as they possibly could. If I was TB, I wouldn't even look at the tape of this game.
  14. Morgan State? And you guys complain about GT. Elton needs to retire, he is loosing it.
  15. I have a feeling I am going to put on about ten pounds during this trip! So much good food I won't know where to start.
  16. Thanks for the primer GP1. I'm really looking forward to the good food and seeing the sights in Charleston. The team is staying at the Marriott Charleston as will all those taking the charter. I'm glad to know it has your blessings.
  17. Please keep coach Peters in your thoughts and prayers as he recovers from surgery due to complications from his bout with cancer. Dan is an inspiration to all those who know him with his attitude and determination to not let this disease take away his dignity and spirit.
  18. My source tells me the offense has been practicing a lot of 0 backfield blocking schemes. Read into that what ever you want.
  19. I am hosting an exchange student from Germany this school year. When arrived at my home last week I found out that he is a huge basketball fan. He was very excited to tell me that his one of favorite players was from Akron. I said I agreed that Lebron is a great player. Then he said no, his favorite player is Dru Joyce! Dru plays for his hometown team in Germany EWE Baskets Oldenburg.
  20. Only his hairdresser knows for sure.
  21. Alex's new roommate is @dortchthetorch http://instagram.com/p/soUtyIoNBE/ UWG Signs Third Men's Basketball Recruit .
  22. LZip, I think I can give you some answers. KD is doesn't think there is much to gain from agreeing to play at Pitt or another team of their caliber without a return game of some kind. The odds of us winning at Pitt or on the road at any high major aren't great. If we are going to play them he would much rather it be on a neutral court or a least get a commitment to play a return game at the JAR or someplace like the Q. As far as your comments about your high school experiences, it is not a valid comparison. Your high school team didn't have to go out and recruit players. The Zips are not going to get any 4 star players but we do have a chance at 3 star players. Those kids are not interested in going to play for a loser or even a mediocre .500 team. They want to play for a winner and have a chance to go to the Big Dance. None of them realistically have a chance to play in the NBA so they are happy to look back 10 years later and know they were a winner. Playing a schedule that includes several un-winnable games does not accomplish anything IMHO. There are no such things as moral victories or learning experiences in that kind of scenario.
  23. It looks like college D - coordinators are finally starting to catch up to the spread offense.Play tight man coverage on the relievers and blitz the qb. You only need to cover long enough to make the qb make a bad throw. The only way to beat this is having a running game. Until we figure out how to run it we will struggle.
  24. Those teams don't want to play here because the odds of winning are slim. Go look at their OOC schedules. They look just like ours.
  25. It's got to be embarrassing to be de-cleated and lose your helmet to a guy who is all of 5'8" and 145lbs.
