  1. Honoring? Seriously? OMG
  2. He noted "the two Colorado State guys" would be eligible to play immediately.
  3. The pic of him in the Zips locker room, wearing a Zips helmet, is enough for me to believe he's on the team. Since he didn't play last season, he's eligible this season (I think I recall Bowden saying Capi would be eligible for 2013 when he spoke to us at the Golf Outing). If I were in Vegas I'd drop 50 bucks on the Zips to win the MAC this year. It's the MAC...and the Zips are a completely new, seemingly much more talented team in 2013. That's good enough for me to try 75:1.
  4. Zeke was at the JAR during the kid's basketball camp last week. That's about all I've got.
  5. My son played baseball in Akron the other day, and we stopped by the Rubber Bowl afterwards. The field actually looks pretty nice. The flora and occasional fauna busting through old fiberglass stands might make "The Shrubber Bowl" a more appropriate name in a few more years. Lots of great memories made along that airport fence...
  6. This "Dennis offer" was a big topic of discussion around the fire on Saturday night. The word that is spreading in my area is that Bill Dennis did in fact call in a favor. He is friends with one of the coaches on Akron's staff and the offer has 1 big stipulation. The kid can't accept it. Ha. What I'm hearing is that they offered him as a favor to try and generate some interest from other schools. I've followed college football for quite a while. I've never heard of such a thing.
  7. Did the NCAA make a ruling that 8th-year players with 3 degrees can transfer to a 1-AA program without penalty if they've played less than 6 games in their career?
  8. 95% of the JAR was Akron at the last Akron/K.e.n.t. basketball game.
  9. If you were a business person, could you entertain a client at the JAR? Our premier JAR entertainment facility is the Tommy Evans Lounge. A few years ago I won a TEL pass at the basketball golf outing. I went there for a noon tip-off game. Before the game they had a breakfast bar. Nasty-looking stuff. At halftime I went back in, and the same breakfast food was sitting in the bins...just more nasty and dried-up (this happens after food's been sitting at room temp for 4 hours). A few octogenarians seemed to enjoy it, but that was about it. The soda dispensers ran out of syrup and the lines to get a Pepsi were about 50-deep. They did have some ice cream sundaes laid out on a table, but the table was directly in front of the long front window, so it all melted. There were also about 200 people packed into that room...you could barely move. I think that experience would be better if there was a new venue. Maybe. Just maybe.
  10. Why is there the assumption that, if you build a nicer, larger arena, that is must sell out every game? Big deal if Akron vs. Bethune-Cookman only draws 3,679 at the new arena. Those 3,679 will be spending three times as much money as the 2,783 that would watch the same game at the JAR. And not suffer from Bleacher Butt.
  11. 6' 7", 220 lbs. Big Kid. Reminds me of another muscular Aussie from the 80's, although he was only 6 foot 4...
  12. I hear he's starting a rock band with Ryan Bain and "Butter" Smith: The Neverwuzzes Hit singles include: "I almost played"..."What Campus?"..."Redshirt Schmedshirt"...and everyone's favorite..."InfoCision Circumcision" Good luck to them.
  13. Kudos to the UA Marketing person that forwarded the video to ESPN.
  14. After the Celtics hired Brad Stevens, is was only a matter of time before the next domino fell.
  15. Grice and Caponi aren't going to be displaced either. WR position is tough to handicap, since they all seem to be interchangeable. No Suel this season.
  16. So maybe the question should be: "Who's job is the safest?" Chisholm, Puhgsley, Brumbaugh and March come to mind.
  17. Someone out-scooped Zac on that one a while ago
  18. Too late for Avis Commack.
  19. I like his battery strength. 79% is a solid number.
  20. I'm sticking with the Heat as my choice.
  21. I doubt Ohio State would consider taking a transfer with any baggage. I assume OSU is on Shell's list, but I doubt Shell is on OSU's list. I predict he'll end up at Cal (Pa.). Maybe not immediately, but eventually.
  22. With all the Kroger's in the Columbus area, he certainly forfeited some lucrative spokesperson opportunities by leaving Ohio State. I hope it works out for him in Akron. Seems genuinely humble and grateful for the opportunity. Edit - the 8 billion meg pic of a Kroger Sav-on was removed.
  23. The kid is 165 lbs and has not even entered his senior year in high school. If anyone thinks a 16 year old athlete that is 5' 11", 165lbs is a small HS cornerback, they don't know football. Great "get" by Bowden.
  24. Since when is a 5' 11" corner "small"? Or 6', if you elect to buy into the article's bio. Either way, that is a big corner by any college standard.
