  1. If you can't bring the ball up the court, the shot-blocking is irrelevant. See the VCU game. Or the WVa game. High-major D-1 point guards seem to feast on weak/average guard play. I have no fear we'll have PG talent to do well in the MAC. My concern comes with Thinking Bigger. I was really hoping Evans would, assist-wise, be a drop-in replacement for Abreu. And give us the edge in our marquee games. Additional note - The sometimes paella-riddled Abreu wasn't always the "dream" D-1 PG, but when he was on his game he was the best I'd seen since McLaughlin.
  2. Stupid Losing season, Empty Dix Stadium, Non stop incomplete passes from 3rd string QB to wide receivers. Continuously running plays that don’t work, The inability to separate being a hacky sack player and a Frisbee golfer. Dropped classes, But having 4 of your original teeth means you’re a "super star", Yeah right. Where's my tooth paste? My out house? My Double-wide? I can drop passes, Run backwards, Miss tackles, And be afraid to take a hit. That's top line div. 1 material right there. If that's what K.e.n.t. wanted, They definitely got it. This whole town will be glad when the smelly hippies are gone. For anyone who doesn't understand what I am saying? K.E.N.T.'S SCREWED!
  3. If these guys both turn out to be Blake Justice Part II, it will be a big problem. We need a real D1 point guard if we are going to achieve anything beyond our annual run through the MAC, then one-n-done in a tourney. Hope one emerges. I bet KD does too.
  4. I hope Diggs can play PG at a high level. It will make this team extremely dangerous against high-major competition. Who can deal with a senior, 6' 6" PG with mad game? But all I have is blind hope that Q worked exclusively at improving his passing, vision, poise and decision-making during his lengthy hiatus. In his time at UA he has proven to have a sweet, twine-tickling outside jumper. A killer crossover and a keen ability to slash and finish. His floor attitude is on the edge...crossing over the edge on many occasions...but that's not always a detriment. Love Q at the 2. Love him at the 3. But he really has to have improved those key PG attributes if he's going to help us net a few early marquee games that always seem to elude us. Will he kill against Bluffton? Sure. Against the Zips #2 squad? Sure. And probably against Western Michigan and even K.e.n.t. But he has looked massively overwhelmed against teams like Northwestern and WVa when asked to play the 1. And until I see the metamorphosis for myself, I will remain a Q supporter, but a skeptic that he's the answer to replace Abreu. Why would we bring in Evans if he can't play PG? If he can only play the 2 at a high level, what's the use? We already had buckets full of guys to play the 2. We'll see how it plays-out. Stay hydrated, Melo.
  5. Northwestern game. The last 16 seconds are burned into my memory. Prior that, other 2011-12 instances where Abreu was out/suspended (WVA game was an extended look).
  6. Diggs is not a point guard, at least not for anything more than emergency purposes. And an occasional top-of-the-key drive at the end of a half. Hopefully Betancourt has elevated his game. And Evans can play the point. Otherwise, I think McAdams is our best PG option. And that would be a big weakness in an otherwise very strong team.
  7. Zips win this week. The only question is whether it is a laugher, or if the penalty-loving Zips manage to bungle their way to a close win. There are no excuses this week: * The Zips play at home. * Rivalry game, where our rival enters at 2-7. * K.e.n.t.'s QB is sub-mediocre. What a treat to play against a lousy QB for once? * Unlike last season, when the Zips defense was decimated by injuries and still should have won the game, this year the Zips are healthy. Even without Turner, CJ James and CJ Mizell, the defense has performed at a relatively high level. How is that possible? Give Amato some props. * Pohl should have a much easier time throwing against the K.e.n.t. defense than Ball State's. I look for a big day from him. * I don't think Nico Caponi lets the Zips lose this game. There's a LOT of pent up frustration amongst the Zips seniors...way too many losses over their careers. They finally have a team surrounding them that's capable of beating someone, and they won't let this opportunity pass. Hoisting the Wagon Wheel at InfoCision is something those inglorious bastards deserve. They will seize the day. * Bowden needs to play like he wants to win the game. Last year his dadgum butt-hole puckered up after half time and the Zips sat around waiting for K.e.n.t. to rally. Do the Zips have a trick play? K.e.n.t. has historically been stupid enough to bite on them. Pull out all the stops Saturday afternoon! Robert "Shanken" Stein needs to pull the bolts out of his neck and hit a few short field goals. Either that, or the Zips need to synchronize their frequent personal foul penalties with his chip shot field goals and move him back to 45+ where he seems most comfortable. Chisholm's legs look like a baby deer on a frozen pond, but he's putting up some decent numbers. If he can keep his balance, he can go for 150+ versus K.e.n.t. Side note: Was there ever any bigger disparity in running style on display than at InfoCision last week watching Ball State's RB patiently wait behind his blockers for a hole, versus Chisholm's wild, slashing unpredictable bursts? Can Milwee remove that "5-men-in-the-backfield" play from his playbook? It seems to be illegal (at least the refs think so), but we run it multiple times every game? If K.e.n.t. is unprepared on defense, and we are ready at the line of scrimmage, can someone tell Pohl to run a play instead of waiting and staring at our sideline until K.e.n.t's ready? If Pohl wants to be in the class of the QB's we've faced from UCF, Ball State, Northern Illinois, Louisiana...he needs to take command of this offense. If Getsy was our QB last week, I think we beat Ball State. The rest of our team is improving. But QB seems stuck in 2nd gear. We need better play from our QB. I want to see Pohl become a leader. I want to see some accuracy. Some 3rd down conversions. Or, I'll want see if Hirshmann's celebration dance has improved. Zips 41 K.e.n.t. 23

  10. Great point. The kid is certainly no Robert Frost.
  11. Save a swig for me!
  12. I sense him enrolling in Akron in January. Or Oberlin...Bluffton...wherever he has a scholarship offer.
  13. It's the question for Harney. It isn't the question for Tree.
  14. Hard to believe that writing and reading a poem in high school that speaks poorly about your football coach would get you kicked off the team? Back in my day, coaches loved such poems. The usually netted you a starting job and a Team Captain's role.
  15. Can we agree that listing Tree as a senior, without any reference to the likelihood that he'll be gaining a 4th year of athletic eligibility, is a tad misleading? Not going "jupitertoo" here, George. Just making a comment.
  16. Since when was K.e.n.t a 1-AA program?
  17. I sold the Marketing Department WAY short. As the beginning of the hoops season approaches, the campaign is building to a crescendo. Looking at the big picture, it's clever and well-organized. Interactive and fun. A more-then-worthy followup to the "Think Bigger" campaign. If the Team backs it up with a couple early marquee wins, of which our 2013-14 schedule permits, the JAR will rock this winter. Nice job UA Marketing.
  18. Our compliance crew merits your comment.
  19. True true true. The "Backing the Zips" campaign won't be nearly as effective with a 3-6 start as it will be with a 7-2 start. Sidenote: At what point is the charade that Harney and Tree are seniors end? Everyone knows they will be in a Zips BB uniform next season.
  20. Nick Andre is a plagiarist. He makes me sick. That poem is a complete rip-off of Derrick Tarver's epic December 2003 post regarding Bryan Hipsher. C'mon Nick. Cite your sources.
  21. I am not concerned about our defense. I am not concerned with our offense moving the ball. I am concerned with our red zone ineptitude (#104 in the nation). I think we are equally as likely to turn the ball over in the red zone as we are to score. If we can convert on our red zone opportunities, I like our chances against just about anyone.

  23. Thank you ZipsWin! for taking the time to post something of interest and substance. I read your post and it reminded me of the old days...Brookhart and Owens era...when ZipsNation actually exhibited some quality penmanship. The wins weren't always there, but the games were USUALLY tight. And we had a chance to win. And you could point to several pivotal moments there the outcome was decided. And ZipsNation left every game itching to break it down. I hope the reason you were compelled to write a recap was because Zips football games might just actually be worth discussing. That the games are becoming increasingly competitive, and the team is becoming interesting to follow in-depth. I hope the Miami game, and your post, were indeed really the first sign that winning + fun + interest are returning after the Zips nuclear winter.
