95% of the JAR was Akron at the last Akron/K.e.n.t. basketball game.

If you were a business person, could you entertain a client at the JAR? Our premier JAR entertainment facility is the Tommy Evans Lounge. A few years ago I won a TEL pass at the basketball golf outing. I went there for a noon tip-off game. Before the game they had a breakfast bar. Nasty-looking stuff. At halftime I went back in, and the same breakfast food was sitting in the bins...just more nasty and dried-up (this happens after food's been sitting at room temp for 4 hours). A few octogenarians seemed to enjoy it, but that was about it. The soda dispensers ran out of syrup and the lines to get a Pepsi were about 50-deep. They did have some ice cream sundaes laid out on a table, but the table was directly in front of the long front window, so it all melted. There were also about 200 people packed into that room...you could barely move. I think that experience would be better if there was a new venue. Maybe. Just maybe.

Why is there the assumption that, if you build a nicer, larger arena, that is must sell out every game? Big deal if Akron vs. Bethune-Cookman only draws 3,679 at the new arena. Those 3,679 will be spending three times as much money as the 2,783 that would watch the same game at the JAR. And not suffer from Bleacher Butt.

I doubt Ohio State would consider taking a transfer with any baggage. I assume OSU is on Shell's list, but I doubt Shell is on OSU's list. I predict he'll end up at Cal (Pa.). Maybe not immediately, but eventually.

With all the Kroger's in the Columbus area, he certainly forfeited some lucrative spokesperson opportunities by leaving Ohio State. I hope it works out for him in Akron. Seems genuinely humble and grateful for the opportunity. Edit - the 8 billion meg pic of a Kroger Sav-on was removed.

The kid is 165 lbs and has not even entered his senior year in high school. If anyone thinks a 16 year old athlete that is 5' 11", 165lbs is a small HS cornerback, they don't know football. Great "get" by Bowden.

Too bad it won't be until 2015 at the earliest, and 2016 most-likely, before we see him on the field for meaningful minutes. It is a good timetable for him to have 2 seasons to learn under Pohl...but for fans it is a long time to wait. Hope Pohl gives us some excitement before the Kincade Era begins. And sets some records for Kincade to break. I wonder if Tommy Woodson is reading this thread and quoting Lee Corso..."Not so fast, my friend." Woodson/Pohl/Kincade or Moore/Nicely/Franco Hmmmm....which to choose....?

People that prefer them do so for tradition's sake. Saturday afternoon is college football time. But that's for the BCS programs. Akron needs to find a niche, away from the din of the BCS. Night football isn't a solution for automatic sell-outs, but it helps small-market teams like the Zips, where the game isn't some long-engrained fall tradition, but something fun to do on a Saturday once your honey-do list and kid's stuff is done.
