  1. Why are we discussing CJ Spiller on a Zips web site?
  2. At least the NCAA lets him do the fun stuff. Allen Iverson would like this one single bit.
  3. How about - Ball State = Adult Zip-or-Treat Each participating Lot 9'er brings a 6 pack of high-end beer to the pre-game. Must be a 6-pack. No 22oz'ers. Lot 9'ers bring their 6 pack to participating fan's tailgate and say "Zip or Treat!" They then are given a beer from the participating tailgater in exchange for one of their own. You continue around the lot until you have 6 new, different beers in your 6-pack. Personally, my favorite beer is always my next beer. I'd rather try 6 different pumpkin beers than drink a 6-pack of a single brand. Zip-or-Treat would be a good way to try a bunch of different beers and have a little October fun. Costumes optional. Kids Root Beer Exchange is also an under 21 possibility. Thoughts?
  4. Wash them down with a couple highballs, and you're set.
  5. So is the Ball State Tailgate theme "Balls"? Meatballs (many options here), sauerkraut balls, melon balls, rum balls, spinach balls... Just make sure not to get any balls on your chin.
  6. I forgot a few of mine. I'll need to look them up later. 7. I'm guessing the same whiz kids that screwed up the Harney/Treadwell paperwork last year got promoted to Football Operations?
  8. WTF kind of recipe is this? I assume you spread it over sticks of butter and eat it like a Popsicle?
  9. The defense steps up: 52-10 NIU
  10. Does playing Grand Theft Auto 5 in Poland count as "playing in Europe"?
  11. 23 yards shows home run potential? That's a short porch. Biggs, Hendry, Kennedy...those guys were a threat to go all the way at any given time. I miss those guys.
  12. "Potential" simply means you haven't done it. There are graveyards full of coaches who made their player decisions based upon potential rather than results. If a duck can pull a truck, then hitch 'em up. If a horse can't pull a truck, then make glue.
  13. Great point. Home field advantage at the Rubber Bowl was a massive, borderline unfair plus for the Zips. I think we were something like 39-1 over our previous 40 games there. Again, great point.
  14. 1-7 MAC team beats #24 ranked opponent
  15. Thanks for posting. I like reading that we made it to the 2nd round of the NCAA tourney. I guess that's one way to advance to round #2...add a play-in round and call it round #1.
  16. When college players whine that they should be paid, do any of them consider they're getting free trips to Hawai'i and Puerto Rico while most other students are working at the Student Union?
  17. I contend the sideways pass has been our #1 option.
  18. This team lost 3 MAC games, and still won the MAC Championship
  19. @ DIG: Back to a cushy TV gig. @ Other People: Bowden will make the Zips a winner. I have no doubt. He works hard, and he knows how to get the job done. It will simply take time. There are no shortcuts. Bowden needed to take-on 5th year seniors. Otherwise we'd be getting absolutely killed with true Freshmen of defense instead of James, Capi and Mizell (as only 3 examples). As time goes on, the reliance on these transfers will wane, and they will be replaced by 5th year kids recruited by the Zips out of high school. Bowden and Milwee make mistakes. Zips football fans are allowed to discuss the game strategies and results just like any other fans. Bowden coached at Auburn. He can take it.
  20. It was a funny story with him...he left the Zips to coach for the 49ers under Mike Nolan. Shortly thereafter Nolan got fired. Nori still had a residence in Stow, and was still collecting a paycheck from SF, so he moved back. The Stow HC job opened up in the interim, and he took it. Nori played a couple years in the NFL. Pretty big coup for Stow to get him.
  21. Two additional "Former Coach" Updates: Former Zips RB coach Reno Ferri now holds the same position at Towson, where the Tigers are #2 in the latest FCS poll. Former UA OL coach Mark Nori, who left the Zips in favor of the SF 49'ers staff, has his Stow Bulldogs at 5-0 as they enter this week's game against the 5-0 Hudson Explorers.
  22. I think if you use the sampling of a single game, anyone can look bad. Based upon Louisiana, LT Smith is a chump. Bickley had 5 receptions for 79 yards and 2 TD's against Louisiana. Pretty good for a true freshman. He's probably going to end up a lot closer to Garrett Wolfe than you might want to acknowledge. To the main point - I don't think the coaches blew the game. But they blew some major chances to win the game. And the coaching staff needs to be flawless if the Zips are to beat upper-tier MAC programs. Throwing the ball on 3rd and inches when you have Hundley in the backfield is not smart football. Just like it wasn't smart football to run a sweep with "Mr. Outside" Juwan Chisholm on the 1 yard line against Michigan. Having Pohl throw on 3rd and goal from the 4-inch line was as dangerous and ill-advised as it was for him to throw in a similar situation at Michigan. We get too cute inside the 5 yard line. We are the opposing defense's dream with our inside-the-5 playcalling. Kicking from the far left hash with Dr. Shanken Stein was a big blunder. He's not a good kicker. Bowden needs to play to win. His offensive playcalling is poor when it needs to be sound. The pooch punt was extremely bad. With our existing punter bucking for team MVP honors, why do you take the ball out of his hands and let a QB kick it? There was no need for such a high-risk call, and it cost us 7 points. BG has more talent the UA. But last Saturday, poor playcalling cost us a chance at the upset. MAC teams choke when the pressure it on. BG would have layed entirely different if it were 24-21 in the 4th, instead of 24-14. And the Zips defense would have had a spring in their step. Instead we let BG off the hook, and lost our 30th consecutive road game. Compare that with NIU, who's WON 27 of their last 29 road games. Beautiful day in Bowling Green. But a tough day to enjoy.

  24. BG did not score an offensive TD against Indiana. The same Indiana who has surrendered 35, 35 and 28 points in their other 3 contests. Indiana rolled up over 600 offensive yards against BG. That tells me BG's offense is weak, and their defense is overrated. A healthy Zips team rolls in relatively easy fashion, ending both their epic MAC, and overall road losing streaks in one fell swoop. Zips 38 BG28 #turnthecorner
  25. Looks to be a beautiful day, and only a 2-hour drive. I think I'm gonna pull the trigger on this one. Maybe get the kid some Myles Pizza for the tailgate.
