We outscored them 22-3 to close-out the game. CMU was reeling. CMU is a bunch of chokers. Our defense was playing great. Our offense was rolling. Yet Ianello decided to put all our money on red. There are several reasons why you could justify going for two in that situation (stated in another post, and I don't feel like repeating them), and none of them applied.Stanford tied the game against USC Saturday night on the last play of regulation. Why didn't they go for 2? Because they know what they're doing. We needed a win so f-ing bad on Saturday. Ianello must be getting tired of seeing those ESPN clips of Brookhart pulling out meaningful (Marshall & NIU) come-back wins on the InfoCision Jumbotron ever week, while he's getting waxed for the 15th, 16th, 17th 18th, etc time. He had his chance to get one of his own clips to play on the big screen, and he blew it with his stupid extra point gambles. You reap what you sow.

I called the ticket office to find out if my season tickets had been mailed. The staff told me that the tickets arrived late last week. They are not mailing the tickets before the exhibition game. If you want the tickets before the John Carrolll game, you can go to the tickets office at Infocision Stadium during regular hours this week. The staff said they will have all of the season tickets packages at the John Carroll game. The ticket office will mail any remaining ticket pachages not picked up at the JC game. John Carroll tickets are included in the season ticket price.Thanks. Very helpful. I'm an hour away so I'll pick up on game day.I wonder why the Ticket Office wouldn't send out an e-mail to season ticket holders so we understand the status. It's been a while, but I would think they'd have our e-mails or, if not, should ask for it for these reasons. The University often struggles to appreciate what it's like to be a fan/customer.

I believe Bardo and McNees graduated before their Senior seasons? Graduation doesn't always mean your eligibility has expired. -

You gotta explain how the probability of losing in OT was better than 43%. I need to see that one. -
The Halloween Hoops event on Saturday was very nice. Coupled with the football game, it made for a long day on campus, but I appreciate the work everyone put into it. A nice kid-first event. KD and Kest were both accessible and it was nice to have a few words with both of them.

Do you have an opinion on Green Eggs and Ham?

Not true. ..... So you're telling me you honestly believe that most of the critics on this forum would have praised Ianello for going for a tie if the Zips had lost in OT, and most would not have criticized him for not going for the 2-point conversion?I will tell you with 100% certainty -- NO ONE would have complained if he took that game to OT. NO ONE.My son is 10 years old. He knew better. Everyone did.And I will tell you that in all of the years I've been following football, I have NEVER seen a situation where a coach played for a tie and lost in overtime that some fans didn't criticize him for not going for the 2-point conversion. You cannot seriously be trying to tell me that would not have happened on this forum about this coach.Ok. I concede. Akron Football would have bitched. But that's it.

I don't think Brad Detwiler's opinion is worth any more than anyone else's. It's probably worth less, since his pay check is signed Tom Wistercil. He's not going to question the coach. Would the players want to go for the 2-point conversion? Sure. But players are 19 years old. The players are hyper-emotional. That's why they have coaches. Every player wants to go for 2. Every player implores his coach to "go for it" on every 4th-and-1, or 4th-and-2. And every player begs their coach to throw the challenge flag on every almost-questionable, but obviously caught opponent's pass. The coach's job is to protect the players from themselves. Ianello didn't do that on Saturday. At 20-6, he let the players decide to go for 2*. What happened? What did it cost us?* allegedly -

"Aggressive?" No. "Stupid?" Yes. He played that last 4 seconds like he's never been in that position before. Which is understandable, because he's never been so close to a win before. He didn't have the faith in his guys to win in OT, so he took the 1-in-3 gamble to go for 2 in regulation. He rolled snake eyes.iCoach blew the game. Stupid play call. Time to get waxed by Miami. -
Not true. ..... So you're telling me you honestly believe that most of the critics on this forum would have praised Ianello for going for a tie if the Zips had lost in OT, and most would not have criticized him for not going for the 2-point conversion? It was ballsy.Rehash this particular decision anyway you want. I am glad iCoach is ballsy. Was going for 2, down 20 - 6, ballsy too? Or stupid? The dude makes more uniquely stupid play calls in a single season than I've seen, combined, in 40 years. Stuff you couldn't make up, he does every day! There's no Kool Aid strong enough to ignore this guy's playcalling any longer. I used to think he didn't want to win. And was enamoured with "The Process." I was wrong. He simply doesn't know what it takes to win.

I went on the other side to visit a friend. I returned, in front of where you were seated, for the entire 4th quarter. You must have missed me in all that excitement?

Is the guy that jumps off the top of a building on to the concrete below, when he could have taken the elevator, gutsy? Or stupid?Ianello chose to jump yesterday. The stairs and the elevator were both available.

Not true. There were 20 people around me at game's end. Every one of them was aghast at the 2-point decision. We had a HORRIBLE team on the ropes, at home. A team proven to choke. A team we'd outscored 22-3 to finish the 2nd half, and we handed them the game. What a gift for CMU.If we were down 1 to Ohio State, on the road, and our team was gassed from giving some Herculean effort, THEN you go for 2. Like Air Force did against Tennessee. No way you go for 2 under yesterday's scenario. Ianello blew yesterday's game by his extra point playcalling. I've never seen that before. I'd never seen a team kick off twice in a game either. Or kick a mid-4th quarter field goal to take his team from a 20, to a 17 point deficit. What's the common denominator?

Akron is 3-19 in its past 22 Mid-American Conference games.Second-year coach Rob Ianello is still focused on improvement with the Zips.“We need win games. It's as simple as that” Ianello said. “We'll continue to work on things we haven’t done well and improve on that. But we're focused on one thing -- winning football games. We owe that to our fans. Field goals are akin to a turnover in my book. A failure. Our goal is 7-points each offensive drive.”Improvement is hard to see as the Zips rank second-to-last in scoring offense and defense in the MAC. For the Chippewas, they’re looking at Akron similar to their past two games, which they lost.“They’re pretty terrible as far as coverage-wise and defensively,” said CMU quarterback Ryan Radcliff. “It’s kind of like playing one of those K.e.n.t. teams from the early 90's.”Radcliff has thrown for 787 yards the past two games and Akron is last in the MAC for passing defense, and he expects to go for 400+ against the soft Zips cornerbacks. The Zips have allowed only 264 yards per game through the air, because it's so easy to run on their D-line. Why put the ball in the air if you can run for 6 yards at a crack? One problem Ianello has been particularly working on is getting his defense off the field on third downs. The Zips have allowed the opposing team to pick up first downs 43 percent of the time when in a third down situation.“It’s apparent to everyone that we absolutely B-L-O-W on third down,” Ianello said. “3rd and 22 is as simple as 3rd and 1 for our opponents. It is profoundly embarrassing.”With a 1-6 record, CMU head coach Dan Enos is astounded with the Zips ineptitude. Especially considering their facilities - widely viewed as the best in the MAC.“I’m impressed with their running back,” Enos said. “(Jawon Chisholm) runs well and has good size. And that Wagner kid on defense. He's good. After that, good grief.”Chisholm, a redshirt freshman, averages 4.6 yards per carry for 623 yards and three touchdowns.“They have good size,” said CMU linebacker Justin Cherocci. “But size doesn't mean squat. Like my dad always used to say -- Don't tell me how fast the horse is, tell me who he's beaten. The guys can't beat anyone.”Akron has a much better turnover margin than CMU’s.The Zips defense has 16 take-aways while the offense has turned it over 22 times. CMU has lost 11 more turnovers than it has because of 18 interceptions.“Takeaways are a only important if you do something with them,” Ianello said. “When our defense gets a turnover, it essentially gives them a 4-play breather until we punt, and they're back on the field. I hope CMU commits a ton of penalties on Saturday. To-date, that's been key to our offense. Our staff banks on it."

Getting out of "Sky is Falling" mode for a second or two, a torn meniscus is not a big deal now-a-days. Elton mentioned he could be out for 1 month, which wouldn't be catastrophic....get a few games under his belt in December, and he's good-to-go for the MAC season (Deji, not Elton). This could be much Abreu about nothing?
-
Our offense can't control the ball to save it's life. I can't recall one long drive this season that wasn't aided by some inane penalty or mistake by the opponent. The Zips are the Get Well Card for the MAC's downtrodden. Look for a bad CMU team to be the latest in a looooong list of D1 opponents to thoroughly drub Rob Ianallo's team on it's home field. The MAC has figured it out - stop Chisholm and the Zips are done.

Captain Kangaroo replied to Dave in Green's topic in Board Comments, Suggestions & Technical Support
It is very simple:If two people agree to take their beef off-board, I'm fine with it. It's invisible to me, and causes me no work.If one guy opens his PM box and finds he's being threatened by a random member, it becomes a problem. -
This thread will CEASE.I will state the following, and put an end this conversation. And I do NOT want any PM's, or discussions in Lot 9 regarding this topic. After this post, it is OVER.1.) There are some people on this board who are wordsmiths. The don't say "FU," they don't directly call you a "retard," but they use clever little passive-aggressive techniques to belittle other posters. Their intent is IDENTICAL to the guy that says FU, and will be treated as such.If you passive-aggressively poke at someone, and that person responds by calling you a derogatory name, don't come whining to me. And don't act like you didn't initiate, or escalate it. The Moderators here are not stupid. 2.) PM, at ZN.o means "Positive Message." If you PM someone, you should be telling them you agree with them, you liked their post, you want to hook up and have a pre-game beer one day, etc. A PM is NOT infer "I'm seated in Section XX Buddy, and if you want a piece of me, you know where I'm at." That use of the PM function sickens me. If some of you thin-skinned posters want to know why some Zips fans stay away from this board, you really need to look in the mirror. You THINK you're right when you point fingers at others and decry their actions, but you are in fact more responsible than you ever could fathom.3.) There are a few people on ZN.o who are compelled to, almost hourly, force their version of morality on the other posters and on ZN.o in general. They rarely talk about the game, but opine on how this would be a better place if only people could see the world through their eyes. You guys need to SHUT UP. I don't have time to deal with 3rd Grade BS. When this board becomes "work" for the Moderators, and not "fun," things must change.
