Game 17- Western Michigan
Captain Kangaroo replied to clarkwgriswold's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
There's 27 minutes per game up for grabs over the next 6 weeks due to Nate's injury. We'll see if he takes advantage of his share. If this team is going to do something special in March he's the X factor that's got the potential to torch P5 teams who decide to focus on Ali and Freeman. Speaking of Ali - he actually played like he wanted to take over the game in the last 7 minutes. Dawson's steal lit a fire under him. I want to see that angry, aggressive Ali for the remainder of this season. -
I think a lot of players see it as a chance to "study abroad". They can get a graduate diploma from a second school...get a change of scenery...experience a different culture. Let's face it - Ronan Chambers has lost a lot of football games in his college career. Like 90% of them. Why not take your NCAA "Grad Transfer Get Out of Jail Free" card to see what else is out there? If it doesn't work out...you have your UA Bachelors degree...and off you go into the real world.

Do this, but for Freeman. -
The college football world is apparently starving for 3rd-5th year OL's. Our mediocre-at-best guys are landing gigs at East Carolina, San Diego State, Liberty... not like that's Alabama, Clemson and Michigan, but still...10 years ago those guys would have ended up at some FCS program. Seems like it's just rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic? The JUCO's and random assortment of other guys we pick up are essentially the same caliber of player. It sucks to lose the continuity of several guys playing side-by-side for a few years...but unless the outgoing guys were replaced with Freshman, it seems to work out ok. The days of developing a HS kid with a good frame into a 5th year blocking machine are over. G5 schools can still do the grooming, but a P5 will ultimately reap the benefits.
-
It's the age we live in... I wonder who the first G5 team will be to openly market itself as simply a stepping stone to the P5 level. "If you're a P5 level recruit, come to Prep State University. We'll give you the playing time, coaching and facilities to get you a P5 scholarship and NIL money, or your money back. I guarantee it!"

People are too lazy to do their own grocery shopping nowadays. How’s Akron vs. Eastern Michigan gonna get them off the couch? -

No chance. He and Flo Akron have been sitting at home together since the early 80’s. They’re inseparable.😀 -
Almost?

I hope before I die that I see how Joe Akron responds to a Zips NCAA tournament win. -
Surprised me too? Maybe a key Dayton player is hurt? Regardless - I stand by my prediction! Shock the world, Flyers! 💣
-
If, you're one of those people who enjoys seeing Duquesne get beaten by double digits.

To my knowledge they typically don't sell those row 1-2 seats. Unless it is a Kent game. They're used by older people who have seats elsewhere but can't/won't walk up higher, or those who just prefer them. -
Hunter is one-dimensional - he's a modern day David Falknor. A big man that can hit a lot of 3's. When he's in the post, his feet are slow. He gets beat a lot. If he drives to the hoop, he loses the ball. I'm not knocking him, or David Falknor (I still own David's senior jersey 😁), but he is what he is. He could give the Zips 29 points on a given night if he's hot and his match up is good. But other than that...a steal...a couple rebounds... that's the typical remainder of his stat sheet. Prove me wrong, Sammy!🤘

It almost seemed like he did it intentionally to disrupt the inbounding play (he was WAY over the line) but forgot we already had a delay warning. It could have been a big mistake…but thankfully wasn’t.

Last game too.

Seat location trumps hair.

Blue hairs don't want to sit anywhere near the GA's unwashed masses.
