  1. Hope there are no Utah Valley scouts in the stands tonight.
  2. Nate Johnson is the one newcomer who’s improved as the season’s gone on.
  3. They specifically mentioned they hated Ali Ali. Maybe they were on to something? I kid. 😄
  4. I think the Bob Huggins talk around he has been very respectfully tempered?
  5. Following recruiting is just exhausting nowadays. Two signing days...constant turnover with the portal...players coming and going throughout the entire year... I miss the days when there was one signing day, no portal, and you'd get surprised by maybe two or three roster additions in summer camp. I have no frigging clue who 70% of the Zips starters will be when September rolls around.
  6. Akron is now TSDTR on the Kent U. Website Game time now 6pm. In addition, the game is specified to be played “inside the M.A.C. Center”? Was there some sort of Frozen Five outdoor event previously scheduled?
  7. I remember a Hipsher-era game where the Zips rained some 3’s to cut a similar deficit down to single digits. Joe Dunn - “Hey coach, how’d the Zips finally string together all those threes at the end of the game?” Hipsher - “Joe…it’s easy to shoot three’s when you’re down 30.”
  8. So this is how an EMU fan feels all the time? Blech.
  9. Toledo is deeper, more talented and plays harder than the Zips. They’re definitely the class of the MAC this season.
  10. Even the Toledo crowd is clowning the JAR fan base tonight. Great to see MAC fans that show up for a game aside from their rivalry game. Kudos to them.
  11. This is pretty much his audition for POTY. He’ll need a Herculean 2nd half to stay in contention.
  12. Toledo looks more talented and motivated than the Zips for the second straight game. Hope this comment doesn’t age well, but I think it will.
  13. Toledo is too quick for Sammy Hunter. They hustle too much for him to get wide open looks, and can go right around him when he’s on D. Id take my chances with Garvin tonight.
  14. Thank God for Twitter. How did we all survive before cryptic tweets were invented?
  15. Ali scored 11 points in the Bulldogs 6-point loss the Georgetown yesterday. The win snapped the Hoyas 22 game road losing streak. Butler obviously peaking at the right time. I hear CBI representatives were at Hinkle and were impressed the Bulldogs kept the deficit to single digits. Lunardi has Butler on the CBI bubble. Stay tuned…
  16. You missed a case of tinnitus.
  17. PA system is WAY too f-ing loud tonight.
  18. Nothing better for a Zips fan than to re-live Five Pound Friday. ☹️ The iffy team chemistry was a killer for that era. Treadwell was kicked off the team for a reason. Harney was too. Abreu was too. Some high risk/high reward guys that ended up killing us. I did speak to Dambrot about Tree and Harney once. He said he felt good about them despite their poor HS grades (they both had to sit our their first year due to academic ineligibility) because they both were from good, 2-parent homes. They were as "safe" a high risk recruit as you could get. I think Steve Spurrier was credited with saying "The hardest part about recruiting is convincing a kid who has no business going to college, to come to yours."
  19. Best work George Thomas has ever done.
  20. The inexplicable CMU and Buffalo losses hid the progress the 2022 Zips made in the eyes of Joe Akron. A lot of people just read the box scores, or subscribe to the "You are what your record says you are" mentality. We need to get some more mature bodies signed up after the Spring game. Especially on defense. And we really need 5-6 wins, at minimum, next season. Then the progress is undeniable.
  21. When he first accepted the Akron gig I think Joe could have gone to 10 other places that would have paid him more. The opportunities won't stop now that he's here. College, and occasionally NFL teams will annually put him on their interview list. I just don't see him leaving until he gets the job done. He's here for the right reasons - the chance to run his own program again, a decent salary (you can live pretty nicely on $700k in the Akron area), and for whatever reason...like all of us hard-core supporters...he actually believes in the potential of Zips football. Faust famously called Akron a "sleeping giant" when he came on campus back in the mid 80's. We've been asleep ever since, thanks to horrible facilities, horrible hires and overall administrative ineptitude. It's amazing how many 1-AA teams have ascended to 1-A since the Zips were the first to do so back in 1985. And every single one of them has been more competitive than the Zips. To me, Joe is our first legitimate chance to get off the 38-year schneid. He wants to be here...he's got the facilities...he's a brilliant guy...he's a proven winner...if he can't do it, no one can. Stay the F away, NFL. You don't need Joe. We do.
  22. Loves me some 7 pm Saturday night games! 🍻
  23. Evan Wilson circles the EMU games on his calendar for a reason.
  24. Zips are playing terrible and are up by 9 on the road at halftime.
  25. Our shooting stinks and our defense is EMU-esque.
