Game 26- Eastern Michigan
Captain Kangaroo replied to clarkwgriswold's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
EMu sucks. Bates sucks. I’d love to play these lazy, untalented schleps in Cleveland. -
I'm guessing he's same Chad Minor that was a 3-point specialist during the Hipsher regime?

I believe Dr. Z took a big step forward in remedying the situation. Whatever problems you were having...give them a try again and see what happens. @Hilltopper @Blue & Gold -
Great showing by Toledo. Wire to wire. Great shooting. Always a half step ahead of the Zips.
-
Zips are gamers…but can they overcome both the Rockets and the refs in the final 3;13!
-
Nah. Toledo is way better than Ball State, we have Castenada, and we’re at home. We’re getting run off the floor by a good, more motivated team.

The server issue has yet to be completely resolved. All issues everyone is presently experiencing are related to it. -

That's the least of our concerns as of late. I'm just glad it is presently wonky-yet-slightly-functional. Server and host issues suck. But they will eventually get solved. -
We're obviously having some issues with Invision and the server. It's being worked on. Seems like things are going to be hit-and-miss for a while.

Was it Yogi Berra that said “The place is so crowded nobody goes there.”? There were easily a hundred or two that stood in each corner on the track due to the lack of seats. Closest the Zips have come to the CSU Zips game in the mid-80’s, where every seat was taken and people were sitting on the stairs throughout the JAR.

Castenada solidified himself at the MAC POTY favorite. Carry solidified himself as a distant 3rd behind X and Freeman. Clarke was the Clarke of the last 1/3rd of last season. Great to see that guy re-emerge. Look out MAC if that keeps up. Can you imagine this team if Ali, Bandaego and Dawson were on it (like they should have been)? Freeman’s jersey should be raised to the rafters on the same night that LCJ’s and, if we win an NCAA tournament game, Castenada’s. Groce has brought in some awesome talent. Hope this game gives Tavari some experience and confidence going forward. He’s going to need to step up and fill some big shoes next season. Best Rowdy chant of the evening - “DON’T THROW OB-JECTS!” after that stupid, ignorant, unwarranted warning from the PA nimrod. Great college environment. Had a blast. Proud of my Zips! 🦘💪🏽🏀

Yet. Take it to the bank.

2023 Outstanding Offers
Captain Kangaroo replied to catdaddyp's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
@catdaddyp created a nice chronological listing of when the 2022 signees were brought on board. I'd think the 2023 class will be similar? I've tried to find it, but no luck so far. -
I think we're 8-1 in MAC play when NWAkron "...has a bad feeling about this game." How you feeling about Friday? @NWAkron😀

2022-23 Akron Football Off-season Tracker
Captain Kangaroo replied to Let'sGoZips94's topic in Akron Zips Football
I felt pretty good that Joe would turn down any overtures from the collegiate level. But the NFL is a different animal. Baltimore is only a 4 hour-ish drive from home/Pittsburgh. Timing couldn’t be worse. Hope it’s all just rumors. We need Joe, and stability for the next couple seasons. Once we’re on stable ground, if Joe wants to move on, I’d feel more confident we could hire a solid replacement and keep things rolling. Tomorrow will be interesting… -
I miss the old "first Wednesday in February" signing day. I used to go down to the University for every press conference. There were always some good stories. Coaches would give a power point highlighting all the recruits and say a little about them. Many names were a surprise...not like now, where every player and school can announce their commitment via their own social media. One funny memory - Eugene Jarvis was being recruited by both Kent and Akron. Once Jarvis' power point slide showed up, Brookhart raced through it...I guess Jarvis had decommitted, and chose Kent at the absolute last second. My favorite quip: Kent recruited 3 players from McKinley's '97 state championship team. A reporter told Lee Owens - "Dean Pees is bragging how he stole DeMarlo Rozier from you." Owens replied - "I think DeMarlo looked at our roster, and figured his best chance to get playing time would be at Kent." Note - Owens was 7-2 vs. Kent in his 9 years at UA. Reno Ferri once met a bunch of ZN.o members at the Barley House and gave a first hand account of all the recruits. Other coaches were there having some beers to celebrate the close of the recruiting reason. Fun times...I miss those days.

I can't imagine a Georgia kid would come to Akron in late January without being seriously interested in becoming a Zip?
