When Netflix creates their "Akron - The Larry Williams Years" mini series, I want Bud to get the lead role. -

From the guy that broke the news that Holt would play in Game #5, I can say - if he wants to play for the Zips in 2023, he can. -
I think we miss out on a ton of revenue because the JAR isn't a place for local businesses to entertain. Even for a date night...how many couples want to see a game smooshed together against Frank from Barberton on a wooden bleacher? Even Kent has a nice enclosed area where bigger-donor fans can enjoy the game. I went to the Tommy Evans Lounge once. Maybe 15 years ago. I won tickets at a golf outing. For the pregame (noon tip-off) there was a breakfast station with pancakes, eggs, etc. At 1 pm (halftime) we returned, and the same breakfast stuff was still sitting out. The blue hairs were scooping up their dried-out pancakes and trying to rehydrate them with butter and syrup. My young son wanted a soda. I poured one from the fountain dispenser and handed it to him. He gagged. There was no syrup in the dispenser. Along the front glassed-in wall were some cups of ice cream. They must have been placed on the table at noon, because they were all completely melted. The place was absolutely packed. Looked like 1984 Bulger Hall floor party, but without the kegs. I couldn't imagine an exec from Goodyear walking in there for the first time and saying "Gee...I gotta entertain our out-of-town rubber supplier VP's HERE!" I like watching games at the JAR. It is a nice home court advantage for big games. It's nice that the simpletons who banned beer at the JAR for 35 years are either dead or fired. But as far as D1 arenas go, it is completely bush league. I'd pay a lot more for a cushioned seat and a better view of the game. Hope it happens before I retire to Arizona, or croak.

You mean like Teon Dollard, but without the police blotter appearances. -

Tough to get a yard with a mediocre RB, a bad OL and a run up the middle.
-
Worst effort by the Zips in several weeks. Offensive and defensive.
-
Miami gets 9 yards every 1st down. Or more
-
Unless it’s a 2-yard dump off on 3rd and 7
-
We never use the middle of the field on pass plays.

I’m with you. Zips break through big time today!

2022-2023 MAC Preseason Poll & All-MAC Teams
Captain Kangaroo replied to LoyalZIP's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
We are obviously little more than a talent pipeline for middling Utah basketball programs. -
I can't argue that Irons will hold on to the ball too long at times, and when he does the sack's on him. But how many times when he goes down was there no TE or RB in the flat to take a dump off pass? It seems all too often that he's without a safety valve.

Rachi Culler for 200, Alex? A complete guess on my part, but he always seemed to get positive yardage. He was a beast on the counter trap.
-
A pass rush that had generated just 10 sacks in the first seven games of 2022 put Irons on the ground behind the line of scrimmage seven times. They sacked Irons four times in the fourth quarter.

From the guy that was listening to Steve French on a Sony Walkman report the Zips were down 35-0 to BG on my wedding day in 1993...and the guy that was at the Rubber Bowl when Faust beat OU to go 1-10 in 1994...and the guy that saw Rob Ianello produce back-to-back 1-11 seasons...only to be succeeded by Bowden going 1-11 in his inaugural season, then bookend his tenure with a 4-8 record after beating the Big 10 champs earlier that season...and the guy that saw Tom Arth and Oscar Rodriguez rack up a combined 3 wins against 27 losses...and the guy that's staring smack dab into the face of another 1-11 season...I can say will 100% confidence - I feel your pain.

Pe Gibson - “So, what was going through my mind was that I knew that we had six or seven seconds left, so I knew it was time for one last play and as a I evaded the rush and started moving to my left, I looked downfield and just did not really see a throw at all, I just didn't feel like there was anyone to get it to at the moment, I can't throw the ball 85 yards, 70 yards. I mean, at that point, I just felt like run out of bounds and take the loss. We can go back and look at it and be like, "I should have threw it" and after talking with the coaches, I just should have given somebody a chance and not just given up on the game at that point. Not that that was what I was doing, but just... it is not a good look and I know that, especially people looking from the stands and on tv was watching and like "why is he going out of bounds?" but it is what it is."

In Arth's three "rivalry" games, the Zips lost to the Flashes by an average of 32 points.

Game # 7: vs. Central Michigan Chippewas
Captain Kangaroo replied to LoyalZIP's topic in Akron Zips Football
@Cliff - you may very well be correct. If I were the defense lawyer for the staff, I'd contend: Bubba is 5' 9" and missed the bulk of 2021 with an injury. He's as tough as they come, but playing 95% of the available snaps is risking him breaking down over the course of 12 games. Practices only show so much. Joe needs to see who can play in game action. If you don't play young guys now-a-days, they hit the portal. Players don't get better by sitting. Hopefully giving the younger guys PT today gives us a more game-ready player in the future. 2022 is about building a foundation, not winning a championship. Bubba's been fresh, healthy and very effective all season. Maybe 60% of the snaps is a sweet spot? Bubba was GREAT in the CMU game. I'm glad he stuck with the Zips, and hope he feels he made the right decision by doing so.
