Game 5: Akron ZIPS vs. BGSU - Score Prediction (POLL)
Captain Kangaroo replied to AKSportsFan's topic in Akron Zips Football
Ha! š I'm bullish on these guys. Last year we were slow, small, and inexperienced. In comparison to the DL crew we fielded against Liberty, it is night and day. If we add Holt to the mix (he could be a "Warren Ball", but I remain hopeful) we should have as solid a starting D-line as there is in the MAC. We were the worst in 2021, by a large margin. Go Zips! I'll be in Lot 9 in roughly 26 hours! š¤ -
Game 5: Akron ZIPS vs. BGSU - Score Prediction (POLL)

Like most, I'm a flawless 4-0 in picking the Zips wins/losses this season. But this game is much dicier. I am a huge fan of the Zips defensive line. They have size and speed, and depth. Against BG that should help take some pressure off our secondary. I think they carry the Zips to the "W." Although each season is mutually exclusive, Arth beat these guys twice. Did BG beat Marshall? Sure. But they beat Minnesota in 2021 too, and we still won. In BG. Zips are at home. Win by 2+ scores (is a "score" a TD?). Running game gets on-track. Via Twitter we get to watch unstable, completely amateur phone video footage of the Zips team rejoicing, and belting out "Win for Akron!" in the post game locker room. Zips 31 BG 20 -
At least in college itās only a 15 yard penalty. In the pros you can intentionally remove a guyās head and only get 15 yards. But maybeā¦maybe notā¦judgement callā¦touch a wrās elbow on a 50 Hail Mary and you get a 50 yard penalty.

Game # 5: vs. Bowling Green Falcons (Homecoming 2022)
Captain Kangaroo replied to LoyalZIP's topic in Akron Zips Football
One year ago Blake Hester ran wild on BGā¦20 carries for 120 yards and 2 TDās. With the stagnant running game the Zips have put forth thus far, does Hester get a shot at another romp through the BG secondary this Saturday? He hit the holes hard last seasonā¦but struggled with ball security. If heās going to see any action beyond special teams this year, youād think it would be against the Falcons. -

Itās not my type of tailgating but $3.00 Rhinegeist and a free t-shirt isnāt a bad deal for Joe Akron. -
Game 4: Akron ZIPS @ Liberty - Score Prediction (POLL)

35-24 Liberty. Beat the spread comfortably. -
IMO- offensive linemen need to play on a string. And mixing 5 predominately unfamiliar faces on the line isnāt going to start off well. Removing Gray was a big help, but playing together is the biggest key to the improvement.

My prediction from the July Season Prediction thread. I still feel the Zips will cover. Maybe with the opponent's injuries, it'll be closer than I thought?

Word on the street is - Ravontae's scheduled to see his first Zips action on October 1st vs. BGSU. Long road back to the field for the kid. Hope he can stay healthy. He will be a force if he can avoid the walking boot.

Football Game Day Attendance

Since 2009 (InfoCision opened), we're 42-112 overall. Maybe we have 25 total home wins spread across 13+ seasons? -

I think a lot of people feel if InfoCision doesn't sell out @ 30,000 butts in seats, it's a failure. That's not true. It should be filled near 30k for a big game, where a "big game" equals - A well-promoted season opener, in a season where the Zips have realistic MAC championship aspirations Kent game, in a year where the Zips have realistic MAC championship aspirations P5 team, when the Zips have realistic MAC championship aspirations Championship-caliber opponent @ InfoCision, in a season where the Zips are also contending for the championship If the Zips aren't championship contenders, all bets are off. Even in a championship-level season, if a mediocre-to-bad Ball State or NIU team visits Akron, no one cares, and you can only expect a mediocre crowd. I feel when the Zips are winning 9...10...11 games in a season, which top-tier MAC programs have proven is possible, and where Joe and Co. are capable of taking the Zips, that averaging a 2/3rd's full InfoCision over the couse of a season is a realistic goal. And that would eliminate the need to travel for payday bludgeoning's like the last two week's, because we'd be making money at home. And winning. -

When Joe and Co. turnaround the Zips football program, and we start winning 9...10...11 games per season, the realistic average attendance expectation should be 67% of capacity. Playing Toledo with the MAC championship on the line, or home games vs. Kent, should be near sell-outs. Playing middling MAC schools or FCS programs won't probably ever draw more than 15-17k. Terry Pluto famously wrote: "If Tom Arth can't win at Akron, who can?" Joe and Co. can, will get the Zips to be championship contenders within a couple short years. Hopefully "The Next Scarborough" or "The Next Wistercill" doesn't come along and screw it all up. That's my only concern regarding the future of Akron football. Otherwise, it's incredibly bright. And attendance will climb. -

At the Tennessee game there was a family behind us with two sub 5-year old kids. Sitting in front of them, you repeatedly got kicked, or their pom poms shaken in your head, or their cotton candy stuck to your back or your seats. Gimme an empty InfoCision over that any day of the week. -
I made the trip to Knoxville with my wife. It had been a couple years since I'd made a Zips road trip, so I was overdue. Irons was indeed fantastic. Amazing he could move the Zips against a top SEC defense, with no threat of a running game whatsoever. It seems Gibson made the smart move transferring to Georgia Tech. It is probably better to sit the bench close to home, rather than do it 600 miles to the north. It'll be interesting to see what Joe tries in order to kick start the Zips running attack. Norrils can break some tackles. Like others have said, I'd like to see him get a crack at a few consecutive series. Bungling in the red zone was costly. Missed FG, dropped passes, fumble...a shame the Zips never gave themselves a chance to make Tennessee sweat a little. And for my wife and me to cheer a little. If Irons got UA Player of the Game for his valiant performance coming off an injury, co-POTG would be Noah Perez. Off the bench, as a 140 lb true freshman, hits two FG's in front of 90,000+ hostile fans. I think there were 50 names from the 2021 roster that weren't on the 2022 roster. Even with 32 scholarships to give, that's an impossible number of holes in the dike to plug. Cornerback recruiting seems to have been the primary victim of that numeric impossibility. Being outscored 115-6 in the past two games is beyond rough. But Arth and Larry Williams left a huge mess for Joe and Co. to clean up. They'll get it done, but turning around a D1 football program that has beaten no FBS programs outside of BG in the past 4 calendar years is not an overnight process. You don't plant a garden on Monday, and eat tomatoes on Friday. The Tennessee fans were predominantly nice. Fun environment. Result aside, we had a great time. Beautiful day in the south. Ate too much. Drank too much. That's what life's all about. š

Your distance estimate is dead-nuts on. Yet to see any other Zips fans. But the Vol fans around us are very drunk and congenial.
