In the transfer portal era, I think teams are going to look completely different every year. Tomorrow's team is promised to no one. Is passing on the CBI an affront to teams of the past that would have killed for the opportunity to compete, but were robbed of it for whatever reason? A little bit. The CBI is definitely an unsexy tournament. But it is a decent-sized assemblage of like-ability teams, and it would have been fun if the Zips participated and happened to string together a couple wins...even if only against North Alabama and Tarleton. Moot point now...we now forge on to the Portal Season, and prep for 2023-24.

If Cleveland State and Duquesne are willing to spend money on their basketball programs that were not, that would make me sad. Awaiting Guthrie’s comments on why his 22 win team isn’t playing in the postseason. I know Travis, Joyce, Middleton, etc would have given anything to have a crack at the postseason. Ditto Banks/Cheese/Williams and LCJ.

Zips vs Duquesne

Toledo is a great team. They remind me of the Xerious/LCJ/Cheese/Banks Zips team. They could easily go to the NCAA round of 32 pending the match up. They will beat Kent.

If you want 20 wins, hire Keith Dambrot. Beyond that is expecting too much. I watched one of their games this season, and the announcers said he was the first Duke's coach to have multiple 20-win seasons in 50 years. If that's what floats their boat, then they hired the right guy. A great mid-major coach fights above his weight class. Keith is good within his weight class, but not above it.

I always used to enjoy Ball State's pep band back in the old MAC tourney days. They were hands-down the best. Looks like I may not get to see them this year.😡

My renewal was $99 per season ticket, with no extra fees. Billed $198 for 2 reserved seats, including parking.

I agree it's asking a lot to expect Sammy to repeat Tuesday night's performance night-in-night-out. But he seemed to play with an entirely different sense of urgency on both sides of the floor. It almost seemed like a little light went on in the previous game where he threw down that nasty two-handed dunk.

I remember a game from years ago where Zeke Marshall stole the ball, dribbled the length of the court and threw down an awesome two-handed dunk. Dambrot said in the post game presser - "That was the dumbest thing Zeke could have ever done...he showed me that he's got that in him." Sammy showed Groce that he's got "that" in him. Expectations are now a couple notches higher. To-date I'd only heard rumors of that Sammy from people watching practices. 😁

I like the upper level seats for the view. My upper level reserved seats are $99 each (x2) and includes parking. That's essentially "free." I'll probably pay it until I die, or some future AD hires the next Ianello.

I can't imagine the buyout is millions? Probably $700k would do it. We could "buy" YSU for 250k as a replacement, and have a fun "local" home game with a good chance of a "W." I don't mind Kentucky fans coming up to Akron. They know how to tailgate, and it would make for a fun game day environment. Better than the typical morgue that InfoCision has been since its inception.
