Captain Kangaroo replied to Hilltopper's topic in Board Comments, Suggestions & Technical Support
I have recently had to clear space. It is a bummer that you might need to delete some older pictorial history, but that's what you have to do. Generally speaking...no one is going to go back 8...10...12 years to view those images anyhow. They belong to the ages... -
The year the Zips beat Pitt, we were 5-7. The year we beat Northwestern, we were 4-8. The year we beat NC State we were 5-6. The year we battled Michigan to the final gun we were 5-7. The year we lost to Virginia Tech 21-18, we were 4-7. I recall a terrible Greg Gromek-led Zips team went into the locker room knotted 7-7 at Illinois once. So why can't the 2022 Zips play Tennessee tight this weekend? I hope we can string together some first downs, and Undercuffler channels his "inner Dalton Williams". And, the defense continues to improve. Then, maybe we have a shot to keep it close. The Zips seem to show up and play a great marquee game when it seems completely improbable. Here's hoping some Zips players catch lightning in a bottle this Saturday and, if not shock the world, at least give it a respect-worthy kick in the nuts.

Game #3 - @ Tennessee Volunteers

For anyone making the trip - Tennessee football game day information Parking/Tailgating Info My goal is to tailgate in the Fort Sanders area. If you see a Zips flag waving in the wind, feel free to stop by. I'm sure I can find a cold beer somewhere in my cooler for you! 😁🦘🏉💪 -
@Sergeant Zip you've kept ZipsNation updated on the comings and goings of Zips in the NFL for many many years. I just wanted to extend my thanks for doing it. It is much appreciated!

The Beacon sports page is up to 7 pages?! I'll assume 6 of them are ads for ED treatment?

I thought that, until Irons was injured, it was the best a Zips team had looked since we beat Northwestern. Great offensive play calling and execution (sans turnovers, of course)...fast and aggressive on defense. We looked like we belonged on the same field as a solid Big10 team, for an extended period of time. I wasn't too keen on seeing more of Irons running. Not because he isn't a great running QB, but because he's not proven to be the most durable Zips QB. And he's our key to a competitive season. I was so encouraged by how we looked to begin the game...and by the beginning of the 4th quarter I had to turn the TV off. I've seen how that type of beatdown plays out too many times over the past few years. You get tired of repeatedly hearing the opponent's fight song, and seeing the opposing fans mugging for the camera and dancing in the stands. Undercuffler has less arm strength than Irons, less pocket awareness, and can't run nearly as well. It is a big step down. I hope Irons is healthy by MAC time. With him healthy, we are a solid MAC team, and can win at least 4 MAC games. Without him, I don't know how much Joe can coach up a kid who's glory days were 3 years ago, against the likes of Central Connecticut State, Bryant and Lafayette. If anyone can, it's Joe. Maybe we run the wishbone against the Vols next week? 😁 I'll be in Knoxville. I've seen the Zips lose every game they've played against a P5/G5 opponent not named BGSU for the past 4 calendar years, so waiting another week or two for Joe and Co to start seeing results of their work in the win column ain't no big thing. 🦘💪

I wish we were facing them with our starting QB, and the team we saw for the first 1.5 quarters (3/8th's) of the Michigan State game. But I'm not too confident that will be the case. Regardless - The wife and I will be in Knoxville to cheer on the Zips. I was there 33 years ago when they had Carl Pickins, Chuck Webb, and a host of other NFL-caliber players. It was a great time. I think we lost 52-9, but that was irrelevant. 😁

>97%? 😄 I'm glad anyone got it. If you don't have a sense of humor, and a taste for alcohol, I don't see how you could endure being a Zips football fan.

Whichever's campus is in Camp Granada.

Western Michigan is a pretty solid MAC program, and they lost 35-13 to MSU. I'm guessing the Zips are two TD's worse. Shocky the World? Probably not. Give me 49-13 MSU. I'd be thrilled to see us have some success running the ball, and protect Irons better than last week. Defensively, give me somebody with some speed. Week 1 we looked like a bunch of freshman, incumbents and transfer mercenaries thrown together in a 4 week camp. Joe and Co. now have some game tape to work from. I think the Zips will look better this week.

Holt likely won’t play until the MAC schedule begins.

Holt probably won’t play until BG.

I volunteer to perform an in-stadium puppet show reenactment any exciting plays immediately following the play's conclusion. If the Section 208 railing is obscured, people within the stadium can livestream it on their phones. ZipsWin! will work the camera. Best I can offer since we apparently opted out of the "fire and theft" clause in our scoreboard insurance policy. If you would like to support the Zips Replay Puppet Show, please bring cereal boxes, paper plates, Elmer's glue and construction paper to Lot 9. Oh, and plastic scissors would be great too. Daniel George was my first attempt (below). They'll get more realistic as time goes on.

Most high schools have video scoreboards now a days. And you get stat updates too. InfoCision doesn’t/can’t. It is embarrassing. If there was a fire, why wasn’t that covered by insurance?

No issues entering, and a short wait for stale popcorn and pretzels. Guess that’s a positive?

Game 1: SFU @ Akron ZIPS - Score Prediction (POLL)
Captain Kangaroo replied to AKSportsFan's topic in Akron Zips Football
I’m going with a comfortable 48-16 Zips win. I think our talent and coaching is leaps-and-bounds above 2021. I see no chance of entering the 4th quarter in a tightly contested game (like last season’s 14-14 tie with Bryant). The Zips feel good about themselves for a week and a half before traveling to East Lansing. Then the fun begins… -
"We want the high school players from Akron to stay in Akron...if they can play at the Division 1 level."

Thanks for the great post! I will piggy back off it with what I've heard from people who've attended practices and scrimmages: The team will probably go as DJ Irons goes. The other QB's aren't at his level right now. He's got to stay healthy. Irons will not take the beating he took last season, where he repeatedly dropped back and got pummeled, and rarely threw quick-hitters. The OL is perceived as "middle of the MAC" as far as talent. MUCH improved over last year. The new transfers from Houston and Penn State will start. Xavior Gray looks to be the starting LT. Hopefully with improved coaching he had a nice bounce-back season. Wiley is getting rave reviews. That's good news, because I liked Norrils. The three transfer WR's are likely our #1, #2 and #3 wideouts. As a group they're perceived to be in the upper 1/3 of the MAC. TJ Banks looks to have secured the #1 TE spot. He's improved every week throughout the summer, and his size and athleticism are as good as advertised. D-Line will be MUCH improved. Victor Jones is really good. His former Wyoming teammate Ravontae Holt it also very highly thought of, but may not make his debut until a couple games into the season. Harper also looks good. Secondary is a work-in-progress. Didn't hear much exciting news about the d-backs. Didn't hear much about the LB's. Obviously it's nice to get Bubba back. Hope Boatang is 100% healthy. That's all I got. If any Zips insiders are lurking, now's the time to speak up!🦘💪
