  1. Looks pretty real to me... http://wsls.com/2015/08/18/virginia-tech-cadets-face-tough-obstacles-in-first-week/ One of the largest classes of incoming cadets at VT, 43% from out of state, so there is some demand for the program.
  2. USA Today MAC preview- http://www.usatoday.com/longform/sports/ncaaf/mac/2015/08/19/college-football-preview-mid-american-conference-mac/31640015/
  3. Well, TB didn't improve the win count last year and new AD's like to bring in their own guys and Larry has this buddy looking for a chance to become an FBS head coach.... (jk)
  4. It's called "making adjustments". We expect it of our coaches.......(and presidents/trustees).
  5. http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/rankings/cbs/128 Goliath #18 David #94, ahead of Syracuse, USF, Iowa State, Tulane, SMU, UConn, Tulsa, Kansas, ULM and Hawaii.
  6. We dump on the JAR for being a dump, and then use basketball as an attendance benchmark(?) Our good soccer in a good facility would be a better yardstick, except that soccer is not one of the 2 major college sports. Until we see winning football in the fine stadium with some true marketing talent applied to the total gameday experience, we won't know the true UA attendance potential.

  8. 350 incoming freshmen cadets.. http://wsls.com/2015/08/12/va-tech-corps-prepares-for-incoming-freshmen/
  9. You would be shocked to learn what some head coaches and assistant coaches earn at UA.
  10. Our problem is a bean-counter President with seemingly zero Athletics Marketing acumen. He sees the football program strictly in dollars and cents. He can't see potential. Only what's on his 2015 spreadsheet. I have a more optimistic take on it. I think because SS is a bean-counter, he knows the necessity of increasing attendance to make ends meet and intends to do it. I believe he is already implementing new ideas to help the Zips football experience. I think I heard/read the marching band is being increased to 200 members, with money being spent (Shhhh) on new instruments and uniforms (look no further than 2 hrs down I-71 to see the importance of the band). And the cadet corps will also be marching and becoming a thing at home games...hopefully they will be a loud cheering section and develop some entertaining schtick of their own. Although PR/communication has become a big issue, SS has created the UAtoZ radio program as a great community outreach tool so hopefully they can work some more football/soccer/etc. information into that to get people informed and interested. That's another thing that could have been done by previous administrations but wasn't. Innovation is the name of the game and I am looking forward to the rollouts this fall.
  11. Burned out on keeping the football roster up to date?
  12. Is there something that indicates he is the leading candidate at UA?
  13. 1. I'm encouraged we are reaching out to find the right person and not just limiting it to the applicants, so less chance of another Wistrcill/iCoach debacle 2. The current "dynamic" situation at UA is probably not that big a deal to transfers coming in to play for one year
  14. SS addressed it in one of his uatoz chats on wakr...combination of cost, availability of rubber ducks baseball experience "on campus", title IX....
  15. Not FBS, per Bowden...he wants more PT.
  16. ABJ is on the prowl.. http://www.ohio.com/news/local/university-of-akron-trustees-who-are-they-1.614439
  17. I won't end my association if football gets canned but if they move it down to the pee-wee leagues I probably will.
  18. It sounded to me like he's implying that this next AD has the last chance to save Zips football.
  19. The linked college free agency article, featuring our favorite red-head, is interesting also http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2470020-everett-golson-and-the-new-free-agency-in-college-football
  20. $450K for 15 years of Proenza's tenure in which he didn't renovate (requiring major updates), and $450K to last for another 15 years or longer comes out to $30K per year, chump change relative to the annual budget. And most if not all of it was from the separate endowment. Of all the issues to worry about, this ranks at the bottom.
  21. I was paywalled...what are the foundation chief's figures?
  22. " Last year, K---ent gave out $26.3M in need based financial aid. That's institutional aid and doesn't include any state or federal grants or things like hometown scholarships. Do you want to know what Akron gave out? One hundred and one thousand dollars! Despite having the larger endowment." Eureka. I now know why Can't gets so many applications. They buy them at the expense of the taxpayers.
  23. "All of the money has come from donations made to the university for the specific purpose of housing the university president," said Pavloff. "So we've had previous homes that we've occupied and sold, fortunately for gains. We've put those funds in a separate endowment. In the most recent case of the renovations--even solicited some additional funds. But every one of those dollars has come from donations made specifically for the purpose of housing the university president. There have been no dollars from the general fund that have been used for that purpose."
