Pittsburgh has 12 players from Ohio on its roster, but just three that hail from Northeast Ohio — freshman RB Darrin Hall (Youngstown, Ohio/Austintown HS), redshirt freshman LB Jamal Davis II (Canton, Ohio/Canton McKinley HS), and senior DL Darryl Render (Cleveland, OH/St. Edward HS). Panthers' offensive line coach John Peterson served as Akron's offensive line coach last season. UA sophomore LB/WR Jerome Lane (Akron, Ohio) is the son of Pitt basketball alum Jerome Lane (1985-88). A first round draft pick by the Denver Nuggets in 1998, Lane spent five seasons in the NBA. Zips' sophomore QB Tra'Von Chapman enrolled at Pitt in spring 2013 and participated in spring drills before transferring to Ashland University. He joined the Zips last year, sitting out the 2014 season per the NCAA transfer rule.
  7. Penalties to blame for OU's slow start vs. Akron http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/ncaaf/2015/09/07/oklahoma-hoping-for-better-start-against-tennessee/71853012/
  8. Did you hear what they said about Grice's pro opportunity not being as a D-lineman?
  9. In a showdown between the two most successful men's soccer program since 2007, Akron closes out its four-game season-opening road swing battling No. 6 Maryland on Monday, Sept. 7 in a 7 p.m. tilt at Ludwig Field. livestream: http://www.btn2go.com/schedule?sids=MSC
  10. http://pittsburgh.forums.rivals.com/threads/looking-for-akron-pregame-ideas-coming-in-for-the-game.21576/ Bumping this older thread for the visitors. Maybe some updates are in order. I can't help much, being out of the area.
  11. Cincinnati had 39K at Nippert yesterday.
  12. Panthers favored by 2 TDs. I will watch on ESPN3 but I can't handle the WARF audio broadcasts any longer because of the commercials.
  13. Steve and Joe are predicting a big crowd.
  14. This is going to be a 5 hour game.
  15. ATS has now flipped...OU is covering.
  16. Wide open receivers...they have figured us out.
  17. True freshman kicker/punter for OU...hopefully he will whiff a few http://www.tulsaworld.com/sportsextra/ousportsextra/oklahoma-vs-akron-who-holds-the-advantage-when-oklahoma-passes/article_9786095d-1703-536b-874b-383c72f571fa.html Special teamsAkron has a senior punter and placekicker on its roster. OU will counter with true freshman Austin Siebert, who will handle both jobs. Oklahoma’s punt return game needs improving. The highlight for OU will be Alex Ross’ kick returns. Advantage: Zips
  18. I don't know either but I trust that John Green would have some good input on that. For one thing, I think it would boost the scope and stature of UA political polls. Political fact-checking services have become a pretty big thing also.
  19. Latest installment of Karen's-World: http://www.cleveland.com/metro/index.ssf/2015/09/university_of_akron_eyes_growt_1.html I've always felt there weren't enough pear trees on College Street, I'm glad this is finally being addressed
  20. A high of 92 and low of 72 is forecast for Saturday, partly cloudy. The first half will probably be mid-80's and second half in the low 80's. No doubt there will be substantial cooling equipment on both sidelines. Time of possession will be a bigger factor than the heat...we will be "toast" only if we can't get some 1st downs and keep the defense "fresh".
  21. UCF loses at home to Florida International. O'Leary is reportedly looking to step down as coach after this season and become full-time AD there. Knights have been speculated as a possible Big XII expansion candidate for exposure to FL recruiting.
  22. Best wishes to Shawn. Thanks for the memories and for representing UA with class.
  23. http://www.soonersports.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=31000&ATCLID=210305281 The stage is set to dash the hopes of 82,000+ in person, a few million more via tv and radio. Go Zips!!
