I'd guess Pres. Scar.'s explanation is going to be the plain simple truth, that he is up against it due to the circumstances he came into and he is having to find creative solutions to get through the current financial situation. I'm starting to think it's the trustees and Proenza who are going to have some 'splainin to do in Columbus about the current situation and wouldn't be surprised if some trustees get the boot.

There's some strange irony in that the state appoints trustees who then hire a president who pokes his finger in the eye of the state who is ultimately responsible for his actions. I guess in the end it just means they could fire his a$$ directly or cause the trustees to do so. Another funny thing is that the governor could get as involved in the situation as he wants to but he is now preoccupied with becoming a presidential nominee.

So the state continually reduces financial support of the universities, then makes them freeze tuition, and when they make ends meet however they can, blames them for a mistake made by the state. Now that's embarrassing.

I don't disagree with you, LAZF, with a few conditions: 1) that the name not include a direction or "Ke.nt" 2) the combined sports program joins the AAC or better and a future arena is located in Akron 3) "main campus" admission standards are further raised (branches could be open/inclusive for remedial coursework)

I still think the arena will be built down by Canal Park. The baseball field can become a general-use area for football drills, cadet/ROTC drills, intramurals, etc.

Would it be safe to assume the baseball elimination is effective immediately? Players/coaches will certainly be transferring out and none coming in...I'd think it would be difficult to field a team as soon as next spring. Would the current players' full ride schollies still be honored if they decided to stay at Akron to complete their degrees?

Probably some mixed feelings for him but I can't imagine he's not happy that this will lessen the impact of budget cuts to the basketball program.

On the bright side, SS has stated that attendance will be a key metric in evaluations of the new AD. It gives me a glimmer of hope that he will hire someone with some creativity and marketing skills above all else.

I don't know if there's an FBS stadium capacity requirement, but building a new 15-20K "FBS" stadium would have been the surest sign it was time to pull the plug.

That story & quote were repeated in numerous Ohio and national media outlets. Did SS make any retraction or clarification, or ask the ABJ to do so? If not, he seems to be standing behind it.

I think it will be a nice addition to the football games. I think they should sit across from the band to do some back and forth cheers. I just hope they don't bring a cannon.

I won't even post the link to the recent ABJ attendance article, but it says that Prez SS says he wouldn't have built the new stadium. Anyone have any insight or has heard him comment as to what he would have done instead?
