  1. Is there something that indicates he is the leading candidate at UA?
  2. 1. I'm encouraged we are reaching out to find the right person and not just limiting it to the applicants, so less chance of another Wistrcill/iCoach debacle 2. The current "dynamic" situation at UA is probably not that big a deal to transfers coming in to play for one year
  3. SS addressed it in one of his uatoz chats on wakr...combination of cost, availability of rubber ducks baseball experience "on campus", title IX....
  4. Not FBS, per Bowden...he wants more PT.
  5. ABJ is on the prowl.. http://www.ohio.com/news/local/university-of-akron-trustees-who-are-they-1.614439
  6. I won't end my association if football gets canned but if they move it down to the pee-wee leagues I probably will.
  7. It sounded to me like he's implying that this next AD has the last chance to save Zips football.
  8. The linked college free agency article, featuring our favorite red-head, is interesting also http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2470020-everett-golson-and-the-new-free-agency-in-college-football
  9. $450K for 15 years of Proenza's tenure in which he didn't renovate (requiring major updates), and $450K to last for another 15 years or longer comes out to $30K per year, chump change relative to the annual budget. And most if not all of it was from the separate endowment. Of all the issues to worry about, this ranks at the bottom.
  10. I was paywalled...what are the foundation chief's figures?
  11. " Last year, K---ent gave out $26.3M in need based financial aid. That's institutional aid and doesn't include any state or federal grants or things like hometown scholarships. Do you want to know what Akron gave out? One hundred and one thousand dollars! Despite having the larger endowment." Eureka. I now know why Can't gets so many applications. They buy them at the expense of the taxpayers.
  12. "All of the money has come from donations made to the university for the specific purpose of housing the university president," said Pavloff. "So we've had previous homes that we've occupied and sold, fortunately for gains. We've put those funds in a separate endowment. In the most recent case of the renovations--even solicited some additional funds. But every one of those dollars has come from donations made specifically for the purpose of housing the university president. There have been no dollars from the general fund that have been used for that purpose."
  13. Wait, so the taxpayers receive millions in assets from private donations (Goodyear Polymer Center, Stile Field House, etc.) but they're up in arms about < $1M spent on the president's residence, again from private donations, which they also then own?
  14. Why do people think all money spent by the U. comes directly from taxpayers when the state actually provides relatively little (and dwindling) support?
  15. Akron is all set for baseball with the Rubber Ducks and Canal Park. The university needs to focus those resources on the other sports. Most of the university job cuts were administrative. Although students can't do all the work of experienced full-time staffers, they can certainly help fill the void with co-op & internship jobs in the various departments, in keeping with the polytech/experiential learning push.
  16. The demise of professionalism in NEO journalism is sad to watch.

There have been no dollars from the general fund that have been used for that purpose." Too bad Bob Dyer and Karen Farkas weren't able to ferret out that information.
  18. Editors say UA has a good plan http://www.ohio.com/editorial/editorials/ua-has-a-good-plan-it-really-does-1.613070
  19. I had WCT lectures at EJT back in the day. What I remember is the throng of students going there (or coming from) on the sidewalk right next to Buchtel Ave. with the traffic whizzing by. If you weren't careful you could have been nudged by the crowd off the sidewalk and into the path of a vehicle. Nowadays it's hard to believe there was once a major thoroughfare running right thru campus.
  20. Wow, this has been a blessing in disguise for many of them who will have a more valuable diploma if they graduate.
  21. I'm not on board with this one but they do some nice designs. I'd like to see them do some pro-Zips stuff.
  22. "Finally some positive words from the ABJ. http://www.ohio.com/...budget-1.612626" And a cowardly swipe at that "mistake of a stadium", with no suggestion of what should have been done instead. Play in the Rubber Bowl forever? Build a Div. III stadium? Shutter the program? Let's hear it, editors.
  23. http://www.ustfccca.org/ustfccca-awards/the-bowerman#fanvote Very quick and easy to vote!
  24. You'd think these reporters would try to get some input from the trustees, who own every action by the university.
