  1. Sheesh, that list of schools is as long as my arm but we don't even get credit for successfully copying Cornell

  3. "It was obvious that the witness was distraught over what he saw, but he at no time related to me the very specific actions"According to JoePa's statement, he didn't follow through in finding out the severity of what had happened. And since the AD didn't follow through with the authorities, JP should have taken further action...not just wash his hands of the incident. But he will probably skate because of his esteemed position.
  4. The witness was "obviously distraught," so JoePa didn't question him as to what had happened under the Penn State football banner? And who were the "university administrators" it was referred to, the secretary to the assistant sports information director, so he could say he reported it?
  5. Hmmm...is he a senior? Spoken for? iCoach must know where Wayne Co. is since we have Ladrach..
  6. Question for anyone that might know: what is the process for walking on with Zips baseball? Do they have open tryouts? Or are all the players recruited and on scholarship? Is it a matter of contacting Coach R. and going from there? There is also still a club team, right? Is that open to all students? I know someone who is a HS senior now and might be interested. Any info is appreciated...thanks.
  7. I dont think a deal can be struck with the aeros for daily practice and all our games at canal park...too much wear and tear and the lease would be prohibitive. Maybe baseball and track could move south of exchange if university park alliance can get the land.

  10. Looks like WVU to Big XII. I guess schools with low academic standards like Baylor and Texas will have another friend to play football with.Want to know why teams like Missouri, WVU, etc. are passing on the Big Ten? It has nothing to do with academic standards and the Big Ten passing on them. If it was, Nebraska wouldn't get in. It's because the league is crap and schools want to be part of something bigger, not smaller. Adding Nebraska to the league does nothing more than add an average Big 12 team to the league. Granted, Nebraska is still better than 90% of the Big Ten, but the rest of the league isn't very good.Academics have noting to do with the moves conferences are making. You honestly believe that WVU and Missouri took a "pass" on joining the Big Ten? Wow. They would kill to get an invite.Maybe pass isn't the right word. They looked at better options. Missouri was always rumored to join the Big Ten and they didn't because the SEC is a better league. WVU didn't go crawling on their hands and knees to the Big Ten. Outside of Notre Dame, future Big Ten expansion will be adding garbage to an already bad league. Certainly not a Leader in college football. They aren't the Legends they proclaim to be either. Well played

  13. This just seems to reiterate the classiness of Coles, to take in a player that you had to coach against, and who helped to beat your team a few times. Or maybe his cleverness, to use the talents of a former foe to compete against your current foes..
  14. This isn't just about a basketball arena, it's about executing the Master Plan for the entire University Park area, with 4 different districts, and now they've hired a company to oversee it, with "projects expected to move forward in the coming months." Arena-specific comments are probably better suited for the basketball forum.
  15. Sounds great! Here is another source, one that specifically mentions that discussions have taken place regarding an arena for UA.Nice.Projects discussed reportedly include office, retail, housing and medical private uses, as well as residence halls, research buildings and an arena for the university. Individual projects are expected to move forward in the coming months now that the relationship with KUD is in place, according to the alliance statement. “Akron has a well developed plan and vision,” said KUD president and CEO Marvin Suomi in the statement.

  18. Something like this would probably also make EJ Thomas PAH redundant and available for redevelopment. I was very surprised to hear not too long ago that various options are being considered for EJ due to declining attendance/cashflow for its shows, including removing it. Even though it was much acclaimed when built in the 70's, it's now going on 40 years old. I believe some new auditoriums have been built on campus for dance/theater/etc. that could handle a bit smaller audiences. That corner of Buchtel and Wolf Ledges would be very convenient for additional PolySci or Law or student housing space.
  19. There are 126 football teams in what used to be called Division I, including Akron. No, Division I has always included both tiers...everyone that's not Div. II or Div. III. And it's still Div. I.
  20. Nothing surprising there but the optimist in me says we still have more upside potential than about 100 of the teams above us currently.
  21. Tailgating must end rule? Sez who? Even Uncle Tommy stopped by and declined a free beer at the tailgating party I was at between games. I believe we were located in parking lot #12 on campus. The party lasted right up to 15 minutes before game time. Actually it's 2 hours after a game, which was about the interval before the soccer game http://www.gozips.com/gameday/fb/tailgating Are people tailgating before standalone soccer games - I'm not even sure.
  22. Game time tonight at 7:30, carried on mac-sports.com and 1350am. Would be a great tailgating double header opportunity on campus today but I think there's a rule that tailgating must end shortly after the football game(?)
  23. I showed you where the moderators have made it clear that vulgarity is not acceptable, so obviously they do care. Most of us would like for Zips in the making to be able to visit without being exposed to crudeness, name-calling, and the message that alcohol is vital for the enjoyment of every event. The Trustees decided what they thought was best (for the current season only)...if you disagree, that's fine but show a little maturity.
