  1. I'd say wait a few months and if the football season doesn't work out, 'promote' JD to AD. Then he could hire his successor. I actually think he would be a good AD with his mad business skills.

  3. Yes they are. A couple of years ago they knocked off one of the top-ranked teams in the nation in the first round of the NCAA tourney ... on the road ... in cold weather, out of their element.
  4. The alternating five yard field color looks good. +1
  5. Welcome, Zeke ! When does he get his first photo op. in a Zips uniform? Can't wait to see that
  6. "The Inflow" (due to increased attendance and revenue)
  7. Whoever the coach is in 2010 will have a great stadium to work with and the program will move up. That's how I'm thinking about it. It would be a tough break for JD to get one year in the new stadium and then be out but that's the way it goes. On the other hand, if he survives and the stadium helps with recruiting the way I think it will, he could be very successful here for a long time to come.

  9. Go Buchtel, Beat Denison !!Is that the current Buchtel Hall? It's hard to read the signs but it looks like there are some score predictions with Akron winning...just like on Zipsnation
  10. RasorBlog Opponent Outlook:http://www.ohiomm.com/blogs/zips/MSU has 1,000 yard rusher Devan James and the best defense in 1-AA/FCS, holding all opponents under 350 total yards. MRasor says:The Bears will get some first downs behind James. If the Bears add collect a few turnovers and steadily put up points, the Zips' emotions will go from "Let's pound these guys to open The Info" to "Holy crap. We might lose this game and taint a $60 million investment."
  11. I think the experience of watching the Zips inside the new stadium will easily overcome the traffic and parking situation. People will learn pretty quickly what works best for them...park & shuttle, park and stroll thru campus, arrive early & tailgate, etc. The biggest problem early on may be a traffic jam on Route 8 at the campus exits (if Rte. 8 thru traffic is impeded the whiners will be screaming bloody murder on ohio.com). People will learn to use Wolf Ledges or South Main instead. Slow traffic and having to walk will make people feel like they're attending an important event, which they are
  12. Softball beat Ohio, Ball State (top seed) & WMU. Baseball beats Can't 8-4 and Stevi Large beats her MAC record in hammer throw by 6 feet. What a day for the Zips!
  13. http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/articl...u-auPQD97VH0IO0I'm glad to see the Cavs made short work of Detroit. I've hated the Pistons ever since the time Rick Mahorn almost took off Mark Price's head with a forearm shiver.
  14. You might be able to get a plate custom made at one of those mall kiosks that sells them.
  15. Lewis would be a senior in the fall so if he wants to transfer, he would have to go to a Football Championship Series program. What if he transfers to Morgan State? IU must have another good QB if they were sharing the snaps last season and Lewis was switching to WR this spring.
  16. I think the Can't hockey program was terminated as a result of severe NCAA sanctions as a result of out-of-control hazing shenanigans. And probably also for Title IX and budgetary reasons. I definitely got the impression when Cartwright was at Can't State that she was no friend of the (mens) sport of football. Maybe they're just threatening to drop football to shakedown the alumni for more athletics donations.
  17. Many stadium records will be set on Sep. 12 and many of them will be broken on the 18th
  18. Zakuani article:http://web.mlsnet.com/news/mls_news.jsp?ym...s&fext=.jsp
  19. Yeah, thanks for the nice pics. It still warms my heart that this project can go forward and provide work for some construction folks during this severe recession. Less than 5 months to christening...who's got the champagne?
  20. I think we already have a decade's worth of worthy planned/unfinished projects, including the Education building, International Business building, Greek Village, Soccer stadium, outdoor living room plaza, parking decks, dorms, etc.Another thing I would like to see would be an entrepreneurship center open to all Akron residents where anyone with an invention / product / business idea could come to campus and have access to all the resources of the university to help develop it, including graphic design/drafting, engineering/prototype-building, legal/patenting, marketing/sales, etc. In exchange, UA would get royalties from future sales. If/when a new business gets started it could then move to the Akron incubator to continue growing. I think there are a lot of people with good ideas out there but could use some help bringing them to market. A lot of jobs could potentially be created.
  21. 10-year plan? Hmmm....one word: starts with A, ends with a...
  22. That San Jose Earthquakes scarf gives me an idea (the We Hate... part). I also like the Deutschland one.
  23. The new stadium will improve all aspects of the Zips football experience, including the band...you'll soon see.
  24. CUSA would give us exposure to large (southern) markets like Orlando-FL, Birmingham-AL, New Orleans-LA, Houston-TX and Memphis-TN. Baseball/softball, mens and womens soccer and M/W golf would benefit from the milder climates but do the southern schools want to come to northern Ohio regularly? Although, it does seem like a league of (widely-dispersed) misfits...Rice, Marshall, Tulsa, ECU. Unless there's some major conference reorganizations, we probably just fit better in the midwest-based MAC.I think it's pretty obvious the conference-home topic persists because it has a lot to do with the success and direction of a school's athletic program, fan support, finances, etc.
  25. I still would like something like this flying around campus before/during games...I think it would add to the atmosphere and would be appropriate for Akron.http://www.rcblimp.com/helium/aeroblimp_30.htm
