  1. it's about time. the pics look really good. excited to see if any of my dollar bills made the cut haha click me
  2. Rivals had a nice breakdown of teams that had players drafted since 2000. Akron is about on par with the rest of the MAC click for breakdown
  3. press conference with the media to go over spring ball. 2 things stood out to me 1. Regarding the progress of UA's three quarterbacks (Clayton Moore, Patrick Nicely, Zach D'Orazio): "I think we have a good evaluation so far on all three, but we will continue to evaluate all three of them as we move on. So Patrick Nicely will still run out with the first team offense when we come into training camp, but we will still have a competition between all three and won't name a starter until we are prepared based on their performance. I was pleased with Patrick Nicely's development and he showed more comfort in the offense, he did a nice job in the spring. I was also pleased with Clayton Moore's progress. This is his first exposure to the offense and it's different than what he's done before. Zack D'Orazio has been pleasant to be around, and there's something about him with moving the team and making plays. The good news is we are better at the quarterback position than at anytime we were last season and we have more depth and we are really pleased with that position, but that competition will continue to go for a while." 2.Regarding the running back position: "We have three running backs right now coming out of spring – Broderick Alexander, Jawon Chishlom and Marvin Staten. All of them did a tremendous job. We are going to battle it out a bit. Broderick has the experience, Chisholm has tremendous talent and Marvin did a nice job for a running back who just showed up. Jawon had a nice spring game, he carried the ball 14 times for a 124 yards and he's a very talented young man. Broderick, I don't think was 100 percent in spring practice coming off an achillies injury last June, so we are hopeful once we get him through the summer of work with our strength coach he will be closer to the form we saw him last spring before he got injured. So we like all of our running backs, and we think we can do what we want them to do. Jawon showed Saturday that when he touches the ball he's got some big-play ability. Also if you listen to the audio they ask if any true freshmen will get any time and he responds with Bostick. To me that means that Rossi is a lock for lb. here's the link to get you to the audio click me
  4. here you go click for spring roster
  5. Chisolm looks like the real deal. hits the hole hard, is very fast, and just big enough size to take on tacklers. he's going to be fun to watch and if Alexander can get healthy (still looked a bit slow) Akron can have a nice 1-2 punch. while the o line is really thin they looked light years better than this time last year. the team in general looks light years ahead of last year. much more crisp getting in and out of huddles. not a ton of blown assignments. not a lot of coaches shaking their heads. suel looked nice and on d Williams and Miller were nice surprises although Miller needs to add weight. haven't read too much about the qb's but Moore looks the part. Nicely's stat line was respectable but he was high on a lot of throws. i didn't see much difference from him last year. Moore on the other hand had a better tempo and is a much more accurate passer. i know it's just one practice but I'll be surprised if he isn't the starter. many people i talked to during the game agreed. the secondary is a mess. with Holmes out and Richardson blowing out his acl the secondary is stretched very thin. i did like the switch of Cunningham to safety and was told he's had a nice camp. talked to a parent of a player who was moved to safety from corner just 2 days ago due to the Richardson injury. curious about where the team will play Rossi. i'd have to think that with Chisholm and others at rb he's due to start at lb. that excites me as Akron has talent but players like Little and Gilmer never seem to stay healthy. he'd be perfect to get some snaps on the strong side. went into this game with no expectations and came away both optimistic and concerned. looks like they have some play makers on both sides of the ball but are really thin at all positions. i do feel better about this team at this time than the same time last year.
  6. i referred to him as a bmac clone due to size, the fact that he hasn't seen a shot he doesn't like, and he's not a big fan of d. could fill that bench instant offense role that mcnight had. Tree is every bit a 4 but is super athletic and very long
  7. had the pleasure of watching the akron game downtown (cleveland) and walked into a bar that was set up for xavier alumni. they were great and all were cheering for the zips! very knowledgeable and at least talked 10 people came up to me to talk about the triple ot game with j ball went off. i made sure to ask everyone i talked to about walsh and most said the same thing. very good defender and very athletic. classic tweener/combo guard. sad to see him go but they all felt he'd never crack the starting 5 during his stay there. oh and a few mentioned a solid mid range game. i also had a chance to see harney play when he was in high school. it was a showcase at the wolstien center. tons of talent there as warren harding, mentor, garfield hts, and st. ed's were also there. the top player for benedictine was cam wright who is at pitt. and he was a fast athletic guard. while he was the top player on the floor harney held his own and showed that he can play. he was very raw but showed tremendous athleticism and hops. didn't see him shoot too much as he played off ball and got a lot of his points running the floor and getting boards ala josh. if this team continues to play hard d with an offense that likes to push the ball he'll fit right in. everyone that i've talked with that follows cleveland high school hoops raved about tree. some refer to him kinda like the script from the blind side. that troubled/lazy in the past...that talented. couldn't gone to a major program had he shown up for class at least half the time. haven't seen him play but that's what i heard. looking forward to them plus the brett mcnight clone get in the mix. big big things next year for the zips!
  8. it's 8:23am and
  9. all good points about zeke. the game changed when he sat with 3 fouls. one thing that isn't being talked about too much is nik. he's played like an mvp much of the season but he's been m.i.a. the past two games. 4-10 with 4 boards i think? isn't going to get akron a win over the top mac schools. he's got to lead this team to the promise land and i think he can do it! this team has responded well to adversity this year and I think they have one more run in them! see you at the Ranch and see you at the Q
  10. Can't 21 bg 17 40sec to go in the 1st half....ugly basketball in the mac today
  11. 38-20 ohio....this is getting ugly! the guards look lost and mcnight has taken 5-6 long rang jumpers. not good not good at all!
  12. akron is really gonna have to get the ball inside this game as the guards are having a hard time getting space on their own against a quicker ohio team. and they have to start hitting shots when they get wide open kick outs.
  13. That's what I'm talking about!!! Go Zips!!!! +1
  14. nice article zach! i think its interesting when looking at these numbers mostly because the various sites show different offers on the players profiles. for example scout shows multiple offers for moore but only one for march. on rivals its reversed. i'd guess that the number of players that had akron as their only offer would be around 50%. i can be ok with that as long as the bottom half adds depth and the top half can find their way onto the field and contribute over 5 years. once akron starts to win more than 1 game a year you'll see that number change. also all the people that were complaining about jd's at risk kids are not stepping up to talk about coach i's less risky picks. i am curious as to why we haven't seen any remarks about this on the board? again, there are multiple ways to recruit so i am not condoning a certain way to get the job done. just curious about what everyone else thinks.
  15. i had issues too but it's working now. just watched it.
  16. this is all a crap shoot but so far i am happy as the staff is doing what they said they were going to do. and to get a top notch kid like rossi is really impressive. normally when you see a 4 star kid coming to akron he never saw the field. this will be different. can't wait to see this kid next to wagner!!!!! (no way they waste him on O). lots of depth lots of depth. good balance with juco kids. hopefully they can be impact players from the jump. any word on the kid from glenville that was supposed to transfer? any body see anything on anderson? just curious as all. thanks!
  17. 17 freaking offensive rebounds and they still get the L!!!! roberts 4-13 mcness 2-9 mcknight 2-9 mcclanahan 1-4. :puke: just don't know what to say about this team. KD must be close to having an aneurysm
  18. from the link above Jan- Zach Paul, a K/P from Padua Franciscan High School in OH, has received a Gray shirt Scholarship Offer from The University of Akron. Zach is a talented kicker and punter that can do both at the collegiate level. Zach Has been coming to camps for the last few years and we are very excited for Zach and the Paul Family. so his scholarship will go on next years books.
  19. some rankings updates by ohio varsity as they have morgan and cheek in the top 20 db's grice and williams in the top 20 rb's with williams 5 and pohl 9th qb. that is for the state of ohio. here's the link for the rb rankings click me
  20. the guards refuse to guard anyone but they make up for that by being the dumbest team in the league with the ball. they are in big big trouble
  21. was doing some thinking about this and it always seemed like JD's classes came together right towards the end of signing day while many other mac programs were done. JD seemed to pull in some major talent that way although most never saw the field in a zips uniform. Ianallo seems to be locking people up quickly and players that were offered by a lot of other schools. i'd guess he'll wait for some bigger names at the end too but it doesn't look like as many as JD's classes. will it work? who knows but i have noticed a change. also noticed a lot more offers to the military prep schools. lots of talent there. also working for them is the other 2 schools that got a lot of that talent are with out a coach (Can't and temple). lets take advantage of this. oh and GP1 i agree with your post about wanting to win and turn things around vs early playing time. the recent articles i've been reading most of the kids say that they look forward to turning things around. to be fair they also mention early playing time after.
  22. awesome! :NCAAC: :NCAAC: :NCAAC: :NCAAC:
  23. Ianello said that one of them will moved to another position (think it was potts). side note frank clark is listed as having a visit set up with akron. he also has offers from michigan, north carolina, and psu. lets hope akron can land him and keep the glenville connection.
  24. thanks for asking! it was ok. gave us one of the bigger tv's but no sound. many people noticed my small group watching the game and began to watch and comment on last years loss in the title game and they knew about how good akron's soccer program was. was great to get the random comments during the game and someone bought me a victory beer! can't beat that!
  25. Well put guys! For those that live in the cleveland area ill be watching the game at the old angle on w 25th. English pub that shows nothing but soccer. Already confirmed theyre showing the match.
