  1. Dear Gozips, You told us a couple of years ago that we had a sweet 16 team (that ended up not even winning the MAC). And then you told us that Akron is joining the ACC. Next was your theory of "there is no such thing as a cupcake! A couple of weeks ago you were promoting KD as a great fit for the Pitt job. Today you are trying to convince us that everyone is scared to play Akron when the reality is that their best win of the season was Ohio (RPI 80) and they couldn't beat Ohio State (RPI 72) in the NIT. Then to cap it all, you come on the board and call us idiots!!!
  2. Here is my question for you: Scheduling the way Akron does and racking up wins against cupcakes: a - helps prepare the team to win big games in the post season? b - attracts fans and excites them about the program? c - puts the team in a good spot to get a good seed/at large in the tournament? d - helps coaches achieve contract incentives and build up their resumes?
  3. Hate???!!! There are more colors in life than white or black.
  4. Playing the devil's advocate here: It is hard to argue the case of more mid majors when only 1/32 of those teams (Gonzaga) made it to the sweet 16. On the other hand, when you have 6/7 teams from the ACC in the sweet 16, you start wondering if Florida St. and Georgia Tech who won 8 games in that conference should have received an at large.
  5. Is coach Dambrot really that desperate and so insecure to send you out here to post this garbage?
  6. Don't you feel that this line of thought is what encourages Dambrot to schedule the way he does?
  7. Somewhere not too far from Zips land, reaching the tournament final 3 out of the last 4 years gets you fired. http://collegebasketball.nbcsports.com/2016/03/16/billy-donlon-wright-state-part-ways/ In case there is any doubt, I maintain my position that KD should NOT be fired. I just wanted the KD worshippers on this board to wake up and get a dose of reality.
  8. Had the Zips won this game, we would have a win to talk about for the next 20 years. Every basketball fan in Ohio would have talked about this game tomorrow. Akron recruiters would have great bragging material for the next few years when they visit midwest recruits. We played the worst OSU team in the recent history (and they probably won't be that bad again for another decade). We "supposedly" had one of our best teams ever. The stars were perfectly aligned, but we still couldn't beat them. If you want to use Forsyth as an excuse, they were similarly missing one of their big guys for illness. So we had a once in a lifetime chance to win probably the biggest game in the program history. That win would have led to a very fortunate opportunity for us to host the biggest name ever at the JAR in the Florida Gators. We still played a game where we sucked at shooting free throws (as usual), sucked at shooting three points (as we do in big games), and scored a single freaking point in 5 minutes of over time. After all that, I see zips fans who are congratulating each other for this incredible season and our 21 win streak!!! I am sorry if you enjoy mediocrity and you don't mind your team missing once in a lifetime low hanging opportunities. Some of us don't care how many coppin states and bethune cookman we beat every year. We wait the whole year for the post season and we always get the same result. So please forgive us for not exactly farting rainbows right now.
  9. So were you hoping that we will get an at large bid and play in a high school Gym?
  10. Those of you whining about the lack of respect...It is time to earn it. If you think that OSU is too scared to play us and won't schedule us, we here is your chance. Put up or shut up.
  11. Kwan's shot selection from beyond the arc was horrible. The two missed bunnies are even worse. And he gave up the last wide open shot for buffalo. I'm having a tough time liking him now.
  12. The committee is after money and the money is in the TV ratings and exciting games. The committee doesn't want to invite a team that has no chance of competing. They don't want a game with the outcome known after the first 5 minutes. Those games lead to viewers switching the channel. Unfortunately, unlike Illinois and Indiana we don't get 12 opportunities to beat a ranked team in conference play. If we want to show that we can beat the big guys WE HAVE TO PLAY THEM. Unfortunately, the only way to do that is to go play the power teams at their homes and according to their rules. It is not fair, I know. I m sorry, I didn't make the rules. If we don't want to do that, we have to wait and pray for the Automatic Bid in Cleveland and capitalize on that opportunity. We have never done that. Otherwise, we can go to the NIT and make the final 4 and turn some heads... We have not done that either. But to keep playing the same game again and again and expect different results is just not smart.
  13. I hope I am wrong, but I don't think we will get an at large bid if we (God forbid) happen to need one. We experienced it in 2007, 26-7 and the committee said that our biggest win was Kent State. No bid. And to point #2, you're right, playing at Villanova is a big game under the big lights. I apologize it slipped my mind.
  14. Man did Buffalo look good tonight. Their guards were fast and athletic. We have to find a way to stop their dribble penetrations without getting our big guys in foul trouble.
  15. This is not the time to be negative and I am really hoping that you will read this a constructive criticism because that is the intention behind it. Nothing have changed from my end and our OOC scheduling is still terrible. We have a great team and great players, yet we are not taking full advantage of it and here is why: 1 - We don't have a single good win on our resume. Our best win is @ohio (RPI 75) and that is not impressive come selection time. It is automatic bid or NIT for us. I think that we should be better than that. 2 - Our players are under prepared for the big lights because they have not played in a big time arena in front of a hostile crowd. Which will be the case if we hopefully make it to the big dance. 3 - We did not give Joe Akron a reason to come check out Akron at the JAR because we did not play a single interesting OOC home game.
  16. I am very thankful that we won this game. Also very thankful that we're playing BG instead of CMU tomorrow. Nevertheless, three things are still bothering me about the game: 1 - why did we give up so many offensive rebounds? What happened to boxing out? 2 - Missing free throws almost killed us. 3 - How on earth can a ref call that 5th foul on Reggie and still have a job?
  17. That's a sad sad state of affairs. My heat aches for my Alma Mater
  18. I don't know which one of these is going to be a better NFL QB. What I know is that none of them is worthy of being a Top 3 pick. And since there are several QBs with comparable skills, I hope the Browns will use their 2 pick on a Defender and use their 2nd rounder to get a QB. Now none of that matters if they use the #2 pick to select another Barkevious Mingo or Justin Gilbert.
  19. Thank you Moderators for investing the resources and the effort to maintain this forum. This is not an issue with the board but since I have not lived in Ada since 3 years and I now live in Valpo, would it be possible to change my screen name from Ada Zip to Valpo Zip? Thank you again.
  20. I am not sure if you're being serious or being sarcastic in this statement.
  21. If the threes are falling: Akron by 22 Without the threes: Akron by 6
  22. Dear Gozips, You are one of the smartest and most knowledgeable people on this board and you know that all our OOC home schedule IS made of cupcakes. You just are too loyal of a friend and you are willing to say any thing to avoid admitting that your friend does a bad job with scheduling.
  23. Jimond is another victim of the system at Akron. Our offense is structured in a way that we need exclusively three point shooters and post players. We don't drive up to the basket or have any type of plays for mid range shooters. Therefore, a guard, wing, small forward who cannot shoot the three (no matter how good at every other aspect of the game) is considered bad at Akron. Examples are Jimond, Ronnie Stewart, Deji (first 3 years), Melo, etc...
  24. I find it interesting that we PAY $$$ to those teams to destroy our SOS and damage our RPI (even with a win). But off course, that is not relevant because the most important thing is that we are building a fan base of NEO people who impatiently wait to see those games year after year.
