  1. Scientists at University of Akron find spider silk can behave like muscles"Wispy spider silk can be made to behave like biological muscles, University of Akron researchers have found, a discovery that may equip future robots and micro-machines with web-powered appendages."

  3. i was looking at that exact same place. probably the next best place that isn't off-campusI just don't know how much they use the admin building since they put up Simmons Hall. One other spot is the incredibly empty square of land just south of Perkins as soon as you get off Route 8.The one you were looking at is in Blue. The one by Perkins in in Red. Both areas could use a little rejuvenation. The Perkins spot is just a huge empty grass field in downtown. It's an eyesore and I'm amazed that nobody has put anything at all there. The city bought up all the old, decrepit houses in that area and demolished them a few years ago. More of their land bank for future development. Seems to be a pretty prime spot if the right developer comes along. Not sure if it is still zoned residential of if it has been changed.I think I'd favor putting it where Central Hower is.
  4. Looks like the plans are dead... at least at that location. See story here.
  5. Sounds like NCAA needs a mercy rule.
  6. IIRC, the answer was no, it will not be in NCAA 2010. Something about timing it think.
  7. BINGO on the marketing. But besides that it also it tough to compare that 96 title when there were no where near the amount of students overall and no doubt a smaller fraction of them living on campus compared to today. So with some winning and some marketing you never know how many fans it could bring to games. BTW, thanks for the props Zippy5. We are trying to make Club Baseball a big deal and hopefully we can help out the real team by showcasing some guys that could be walkons. You may be up against steep competition with the Aeros, Indians, and all their other minor league teams in the area. With the possible exception of the Indians, the others are pretty good value for the money and are very family friendly.
  8. Sounds like a long shot to me, but he'd look great in a Zips uni!
  9. And as if the west wasn't weak enough, Ball St loses 2 in basketball.
  10. Possibly it's because in Ohio you are required to have a front plate so it's not a priority, not that UA alumni only live in Ohio.
  11. They got quite a bit of field work to do before they get to laying the turf. But, per our resident posters who took the tour they said they'd start working on the field the end of April. equipment on the north end should be gone relatively soon. They're nearly halfway done, if not farther, with the brickwork. All this work recently is really making me excited!!If they are truly done with the south end zone slope grading I wonder if they'll plant the grass on it soon? Or would that get destroyed working on the scoreboard?
  12. Doing some grading on the field today presumably for the turf. Still have some supplies on the field by the north endzone so they can't start laying any artificial turf on that end.
  13. Didn't we get Purdue here a few years ago?
  14. Gotta keep Boals! He and KD make a great team!
  15. A suggestion for the first half time show at the Info... Beginnings by Chicago from the Chicago Transit Authority album.
  16. Guess that could make for a nice "chip on the shoulder" for next year.
  17. There's already a "friends of the band" fund. Not sure if Lentine's Music was a supporter before they went under, but corporate sponsorships (sticks, heads, reeds, etc.) are one way to help. I'm sure the economy will probably hinder those type of requests. With GK out, I'm not sure who is in charge of getting that funding (RJ?).
  18. If they are smart, they will do what Indiana University did=You can "purchase" one of those chairback seats (similar to what folks bring in) and it will be affixed to your seat for the season. Not sure how this would work for HS games being played there, but it could be another revenue source. I'm sure if they bought a large amount, they could get them for $15 per. Charge fans $30 for the season ($5 per game) and boom...$15 made on every one purchased!!!That must be what they did at UCF... we went to a game there and there were several of those in spots with no people anywhere near them. They were just clamped on to the seat. We thought about using them, but ended up moving over by the band at halftime. I guess that would only work in the reserved sections.
  19. I agree, but in football only (at the moment). Give KD a few more years and a few more Zeke-level recruits and a new arena and we'll be there.
  20. 1) not every major college band has nothing to do for practicly the entire time they're there and with the down time they do have they have a place to duck out of sight2)what OU does is flush and trash so for them to remember the notes is like asking a 5th grader to remember what the color blue is first of all second the UA band only has three days a week for class. now if the U bumped up the credits and added a few days things would probably be different but to learn one show perfome it then learn another show in another week and keep the old show fresh from last week in order to perform it at some high school band concert thing and then go back to the new show again your gonna need a little help with only three days a week. as far as pregame goes they should have that down.I think a lot of the standing around issue will be solved once we are on campus and have some places to duck out of sight insted of just standing at attention for hours on end.Someone who knows what they're talking about! That's pretty much exactly what I was trying to say. Usually when we do pregame the only people who use music are the alternates who are filling in for people who aren't there. We only have three hour and a half rehearsals a week to learn 3 to 4 new songs and drill for all of them.Sorry, but I think some of the rookie band are soft and a bit coddled. Click here.We memorized music and had new shows each week (even in my high school band).
  21. The tailgating on the Brown St baseball field.
  22. My thoughts also. Either that or he will wait until he's out of office.
  23. Friday 8PM start vs Temple and a Friday after TurkeyDay... I can live with that. Unless the weather really sucks, this schedule shouldn't hurt the attendance much.
