  1. Wow. Very poor numbers against a pretty bad team. Who's dropping the ball when it comes to coaching up attitude? Boals? KD? Good rebounders seem to have an attitude ... they WANT it and go after it time and time again. Bardo may be changing a shot here and there BUT what does it matter if our opponents are getting 2nd and 3rd chances each time down the court? Bardo also isn't giving us anything on offense either.Swiech didn't seem to produce many numbers in his 4 minutes last night but I'd still like to see KD work him in a little more frequently. How can you do much worse than 0 points, 0 rebounds, 1 assist, and 5 fouls in 12 minutes??? Swiech is more imposing to me than Bardo. This being a blow-out game, I was surprised SS didn't get any minutes to at least work on some things.
  2. At the risk of being called "Debby Downer" (insert forlorn trumpet sound here), I'm not sure I agree with this. I know there have been posts on here in the past that have highlighted how the Sun Belt inflates attendance (not like the MAC doesn't). BUT, if you check the RECORDED attendance figures for the two Sun Belt teams that are likely to be bowl competition at 6-6 (UL-Lafayette and Arkansas St.) they have both had pretty good years. UL-Lafayette, in particular, has had over 20K for EACH home game EXCEPT the flushes (and they had 18,300 for that one). Given this and the fact that the bowl locations are generally closer to these teams, I would not at all assume a 6-6 MAC school gets picked over a 6-6 Sun Belt school. The bottom line is how many fans that particular bowl committee thinks the team will bring. If we're talking, for instance, the Independence Bowl in Shreveport, there is NO WAY Akron or any other MAC school would be picked over a throng of Ragin' Cajuns who would merely have to drive a few hours to the game.I have to agree here. It's not about who has the better team; it's about the $$$$.
  3. "I" before "E" I was told by nbs95... it's Swiech.
  4. I want to see Swiech play, too. But not if the coach doesn't think he's ready.I trust a good coach to do the right things for both the team and each individual player, which includes not embarassing a player by throwing him into a situation for which he's not prepared.Any objective analysis of KD's actions and results as Zips coach leads to the conclusion that he's a good one,I'm confident that when Swiech demonstrates in practice that he's prepared to play and contribute to the team, it won't be long before we see him in a game.Spot on. Excellent post. KD doesn't want to throw an as-yet-unready Sweich out there and get him embarrassed and have his confidence shaken. He'll come around, apparently just a little bit more slowly than we had hoped. But that's fine - he's a great guy, getting a free college education and hopefully having fun being a part of a great team. No biggie. If tonight's game turns into a blowout (which I anticipate), I hope KD gets a chance to use SS54 and others that he doesn't anticipate redshirting. It could be a good opportunity for them to go against some other people and to do some coaching with them in game situations.
  5. Is he not healthy, or has coach D just kept him on the bench so far? I was looking forward to possibly seeing him go up against that big 320# guy from Canisius.
  6. Well to really put it into perspective. Here is what the University of Minnesota has in store for it's band.http://stadium.gophersports.com/multi_virtual_tours.htmltake a virtual tour of the band room to get an idea how much money these big ten schools really have. I'd say it's better than most MAC school's football practice facilities.Wow, that's an impressive band room. Reminds me when the marching band used to practive in Olsen Hall, and practice marching half time shows with concrete pillars every 20 feet. That room is so big in the video, you could march an entire half time show inside...Thanks again, I do think there is an opportunity to have a fund raiser for the band related to the new stadium. There ARE alumni that would donate $$$Do you know if Jorgenson got any space in the endzone bldg? I know he and GK were really pushing for it.Maybe we should start a "Chief Memorial Fund" that helps fund the band (interest off the capital only type) and pitch it to the alumni band members.
  7. ATTENDANCE: 18,516I know thats just tickets but Seems like you guys got out for the game..imagine what that number would have been if the game was on a saturday like it should have beenAMEN!
  8. About two years ago actually, but who's counting.Nice signature pic, BTW!
  9. As a member of the band I can tell you that the band can't get any bigger unless we get some more money. You guys can see the beat up instruments we play. The school sousaphones, mellos and baritones are so beat up and twisted that most of them don't work. You can see some of these instruments brand new in the 1977 video "A Thing Called Pride." We also ordered more uniforms and raincoats last year when the size of the band jumped but now we're out again. It also doesn't help that members get about $200 for all the time they put in. Just for an idea of how much time that is-12 hours x 6 days for band camp =72 hours3 practices a week x 2 hours x 12 weeks (more if we go to the championship and/or bowl game) = 72 hours1 hour of sectionals a week = 12 hours 5 home games/1 HS Band Show x at least 6 hours each = about 36 hoursTotal = 192 hours if we don't go to the championship and not counting the time it takes to practice music outside of band. We also have to buy two t-shirts, a polo, gloves and shoes which cost over $100. $200 - $100 / 192 = 52 cents an hour at a very generous estimate.Trust me, I would love to have a huge band too, but we can't do it unless we get more funding. Trying to talk kids into joining the one credit class and spending all of that time at practice instead of hanging out with friends or doing school work is hard enough. When most kids come to check out the band the first thing they mention is how bad our instruments and uniforms look. If any of you have an idea of how to fix this make sure to share the idea. If there is $65 million plus out there to build a stadium I'm sure someone would be willing to donate a very small fraction of that for instruments and or uniforms.Just got back from visiting my son; he's a music major at the Univ. of Central Florida (315 member marching band). They get much of their percussion equipment through the manufacturers (Zildjan, Paiste, etc.). Any chance UA has or can get similar deals?
  10. and I guessed wrong... click here
  11. This would be my guess: source
  12. Same story but with audio from yesterday on AkronNewsNow.com.
  13. I'm assuming he's a walk-on. He's listed on gozips.com as a freshman G.
  14. So who's going to switch numbers since Bardo is #54 now?
  15. flushes, Suckeyes, Kitties, Sweaters.... what's the difference? It's a Zips forum... fans of all other schools have to expect some abuse of their mascot if they come here.
  16. I received this regarding tickets...
  17. I voted 2008, but I prefer the ALL SATURDAYS!!! of 1991.
  18. Thanks, I didn't know that. So basically anybody with spare time can do a better job than DLM now. Good idea by the BJ, even if it wasn't originally theirs. Not saying it wasn't, just guessing. That only applies to the online version. The print version will not have that article.
  19. I think I got my dates mixed up;UA fball vs Toledo WED 11/5UA bball vs Walsh (exhib) THURS 11/6UA fball vs Buffalo THURS 11/13Thats another reason I hate midweek football games!
  20. I heard you can get tickets for $1 for this game. Too bad the basketball team exhibition game is the same night... it would be nice to be able to do both!
  21. Thanks for the update! Got my tickets in the mail last night so I'm ready! Hope they (players and coaches) are learning fast so they are ready for Pitt.
  22. I know this may putting a log on a different fire, but I think if we were in the BE, we might be able to capitalize on some of those recruits. It should be easier to recruit better players if they know they have a chance (even a small one) to be in a BCS championship game. The down side of being a BE member would be a tougher road for the basketball team.
  23. WOW Talk about an eye opener! Thanks for filling us all in, CK! I knew there was a bronze grocery bag trophy in there somewhere.
  24. scUM will be decimated by our guys. I will be there early and will be making noise all nightAs for the soccer facility... I have heard rumors about it and I swear I have seen renderings SOMEWHERE, but to be completely honest, I haven't heard a thing as far as a renovation of the soccer facility. I have heard that more bleachers, new playing surface, new lights, and new fencing were being upgraded, but I have absolutely no way of confirming that. Perhaps someone else can chime in here?Soccer stadium concept There's also a link on there for a UA/city of Akron basketball arena concept.
