  1. i love it, especially the part where Zippy throws a buckeye at Brutus. That's probably why you don't see it as much, the people that go to Zips games with there children wearing OSU attire probably complained about it.
  2. Quade Milum is a very good and exciting player to watch. Even if he comes off the bench, he's a big part of this team. For him to be able to jump a 6'10 in high school, I wouldn't be surprised if he could beat that today. He could probably out jump some of the high jumpers on the track team. This year, Milum is my favorite Zip.
  3. Youngstown State most likely holds it since they beat us last. Looks like this rivalry has a lot of tradition. Would be fun to bring it back for a couple years. Would help attendance. Did anyone notice the phantom attendance the UA would post after each game last year. There was no way some of those games had above 14,000. Especially the last game of the year. I hope we don't get a similar home schedule for next year.
  4. I prefer keeping the Rubber Bowl, than watching the Zips play in a high school stadium.
  5. I don't like the moving A. It looks outdated. The new one is much better.
  6. I didn't write that, was quoting the article on Wikipedia.
  7. I was browsing Wikipedia and i found something interesting. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steel_Tire(the http:// isn't working for me right now)"Steel TireFrom Wikipedia, the free encyclopediaThe Steel Tire was awarded to the winner of the annual college football game between the University of Akron and Youngstown State University. The trophy comes from the main products of the two cities; Akron for its rubber and Youngstown for its steel. The series was discontinued after 1995. Youngstown State leads the overall series 19-14-2, including, surprisingly, victories in each of the last three games.Year City Winner Score 1940 Akron Youngstown State 13-0 1941 Youngstown Youngstown State 19-0 1959 Akron Youngstown State 34-14 1960 Youngstown Youngstown State 34-21 1962 Youngstown Youngstown State 17-13 1963 Akron Akron 21-7 1967 Akron Akron 19-12 1968 Youngstown Akron 48-13 1969 Akron Akron 60-27 1970 Youngstown Akron 42-14 1971 Akron Akron 7-0 1972 Youngstown Youngstown State 22-21 1973 Akron Akron 31-7 1974 Youngstown Youngstown State 30-0 1975 Akron Akron 17-6 1976 Youngstown Akron 24-3 1977 Akron Youngstown State 28-10 1978 Youngstown Youngstown State 27-3 1979 Akron Youngstown State 16-3 1980 Youngstown (tie) 0-0 1981 Akron Youngstown State 34-7 1982 Youngstown Akron 20-19 1983 Akron Akron 49-21 1984 Youngstown Youngstown State 3-2 1985 Akron Akron 30-5 1986 Youngstown Youngstown State 40-39 1987 Akron Youngstown State 10-6 1988 Youngstown Akron 33-7 1989 Youngstown Youngstown State 20-17 1990 Youngstown Youngstown State 28-23 1991 Akron Akron 38-24 1992 Akron (tie) 10-10 1993 Akron Youngstown State 19-0 1994 Youngstown Youngstown State 41-7 1995 Akron Youngstown State 24-10From the Wikipedia."
  8. I posted about Larry Dawson a long time ago and I hope he chooses Akron. He's a very talented athlete. Because he was hurt during most of his Junior season, some of the big schools might not know about him yet.
  9. The Browns would be stupid if they passed up a chance at Joe Thomas from Wisconsin. He's amazing.
  10. Stuff like this is why I started to hate OSU. I rooted for OSU growing up and during my freshman year at Akron. When I started getting into Akron's sports, I noticed that attendance was usually low and that not a whole lot of people in this city support the University of Akron athletics. I wondered why and it didn't take long to realize that people around here would rather root for a team in Columbus because of it's winning history over a team in their own backyard. Go to Summit Mall and you'll see a Buckeye Team Shop. Seeing all the attention Columbus was getting from this area and the lack of attention the University of Akron gets, I began rooting against OSU. I hope that if OSU loses more often while Akron starts winning, the attitudes in this city will change. Akron's School of Accountancy is superior to Ohio State's so it's something I take pride in. I really hope we beat OSU in football next season. The sad thing is, there will probably be more people in this area rooting for OSU during that game. Here's my question to all the OSU backers.1. If OSU has 2 or 3 losing seasons (finish 50% or below), will people in this area still favor them over a winning UA program (80% or better)?2. If answered no to question 1, will it have a positive effect on UA's attendance, atmosphere, popularity, and hype in this area?3. If answered yes to question 2, If OSU losing is a positive for UAkron, should Akron fans root against OSU?I know SGM rants about OSU this and that, Akron needs to win this and that, But no matter how much Akron wins, People in this area will continue to favor a winning OSU program more. It's not that hard to understand. No matter how much Akron wins, they'll still be 2nd class to people in this area when compared to a winning OSU program.
  11. It seems like every Northeast Ohio team has been cursed. The Browns, The Indians, The Cavs, The Zips in every sport this year. This has been a bad year for Northeast Ohio fans. The football season was a letdown, and basketball isn't looking great after the OU game for Akron, hopefully that was a fluke. At least OSU is about to lose the National championship, that's good news for Zips fans who hate watching front runners from Northeast Ohio neglect the Zips for a team in Columbus. That at least makes me feel better that Florida is pounding them in.Go Gators!
  12. That game was amazing!!!!! Did I just see Michigan's new coach? You have to go undefeated if you want to make it to a BCS. Miami blew it with their one loss to Iowa 4-5 years ago. After watching the Boise State game and thinking about our season, I realized that we should never have worried about JD going to another school.
  13. smokers wont have a choice if it's voted for by the people. You can buy them in another county and save .30 or you can cut back on how much you smoke if it's a problem. If neither of those satisfy you, you can always dip.
  14. hey, i'm interested in buying those seats with you. We should get them behind the visiting teams bench
  15. Why don't they have shirts available during the game? If a student wants to sit down there, throw him a shirt. It's that simple. Those seats never really sold before it was the student section. When I cheered for Akron during the Derrick Tarver years, those seats were always empty. I would have friends say they were cheerleaders so they could sneak in back there. The best place to put the students is right behind the visiting teams bench. The students are treated like second class. Well, if you're student and not an AK-Rowdy, you're treated like 3rd class. Kicking a student out of the student section because they're not in uniform was stupid and immature. If you're going to have a dress code, have shirts at the ready for students who don't have them. And Akron's marketing department sucks. They need to make the basketball games more exciting. Do they not watch NBA games? Turn off the lights and do a light show before games. And Getsy sucks!! The only reason why he was good last year was because he had a NFL receiver to throw it to. I thought he sucked last year too. Hixon always seemed to bail him out and make him look good.I've been away from ZipsNation for awhile, probably because all I would do is piss off a bunch of OSU fans. I'm sorry people feel Akron is a suburb of Columbus. Oh well, maybe one day Akron will be big time.
  16. The 2005 team had better talent by far. Hixon, Montgomery, and Biggs. Hixon was the only reason why Getsy was ever good. I watched Getsy underthrow too many receivers this year because he lacks arm strength. He did it today against Western Michigan. Hixon always bailed him out last year.
  17. No other quarterback in the NFL would be doing much better than Frye if they were playing for the Browns. It's hard to say he sucks when he's going out there every Sunday giving 120% for a Win. Most of those NFL players go out there for themselves and $$$. Frye goes out there for the Browns.
  18. wow, over 14,000. I was wrong. Maybe that's why there were so many empty seats in class today.
  19. Akron 33, Buffalo 24Attendance will probably be in the 9,000's. The weather is great but it's Thursday.
  20. Boston College flew him and his father to watch a game last week. He's already visited Duke. Duke really wants him bad and unless anyone close offers, that's where he'll go.
  21. He's 3 to 4 star material. Was hurt most of his Junior year. 6'4 280 pounds, bench press is 340. not sure of his squat. He's getting offers from Boston College and Duke. He and his father have already visted both schools. Akron has finally requested films of him. Akron needs to take a serious look at this kid.Mount Union has a certain technique on how to recruit players. They show the locker room with the players name on top of the locker. That's a great way to get a student interested in your school. Make them feel like they are all ready a part of the program before they even go there.Captain, you might not think a kid from D6 Mathews will go to a big school, Carmen Lamancusa will prove you wrong. I'll put money on it.
  22. Gotta love Facebook, this picture is curtesy of Alicia McClure.
  23. There is no reason at all why anyone should be wearing OSU stuff at an Akron football game. If telling them "Wrong Stadium" was mean, oh well. I'd do it again if I was sober.
  24. Now that Carthon is gone, Frye really needs to step it up or the finger will be pointed at him.
  25. I hope they're not talking about that picture.I'll honestly say I'd take the Rubber Bowl over a high school stadium.
