Ianello ignored NE Ohio because he had no familiarity with it. Sure, he touched base a little when he was with Notre Dame, but this was not his "region of expertise" and he obviously wasn't very good at going outside of his comfort zone. All you have to do is look where Ianello was recruiting and it was mostly all in areas that he recruited at his previous stops. He had no chance to succeed at Akron in the areas that he was focusing his efforts.
Bowden's approach seems right on.
