  1. Looks like we had Luke Mangini on campus recently. Teammates with JoeMo's son at Hawken and if I'm not mistaken, is Eric Mangini's son.
  2. This is why I wouldn't touch the high school ranks at a school like Akron. Give me guys with 2-3 years of eligibility who have been in a college strength & conditioning program for a year or 2, and are more mature mentally and physically due to age.
  3. Toledo's RayJ Dennis has declared for the NBA Draft. Doesn't sound like college eligibility will be maintained.
  4. GREAT hire on paper.
  5. Well him not seeing the field from the sideline is a different issue... Does he have 20/20 vision? Wiley was a big back who made small plays. He did start to come on towards the end of the season, but so did Price (minus the ball security). I think anyone with talent will be able to succeed once we fix our OLine issues. Let's hope Linguard and Price are the answers this season.
  6. MLB is supposed to be taking back the streaming rights amid the Bally bankruptcy, but I haven't seen an update in a while on that. It's becoming more of a free for all for rights. I would love for something creative to be done by Akron to become more available and marketable.
  7. Ball State's Payton Sparks has transferred to Indiana.
  8. I was making a joke.
  9. We may want to give credit to Groce, but Buffalo did this to themselves by becoming the University AT Buffalo, SUNY Buffalo, and having a good chunk of their campus in Amherst; all the whole secretly/not so secretly being in Canada. They have an identity crisis, and their fall is fantastic to watch.
  10. Someone took Zion Williamson and shrunk him down to PG size. Holy shiitake mushrooms...
  11. * insert old head emote hitting brick wall * Kid can score... Academic All MAC... Knows 4 years of losing. 🤮
  12. There was a tweet - I thought - that said Terrance had heard from Akron. He's staying at Arkansas State.
  13. Not sure if they're nerds or just P5 junkies that are pissed only 1 P5 school is in the final four.
  14. I have been slammed with work and life crap, so I haven't been able to post updates. Here is a tournament overview so far... - 3 teams in the Final Four are making their first ever FF appearance - First ever Elite 8 without a #1 seed - 1 P5 school in the Final Four (UCONN could be considered a P6 school from the Big East in basketball) - A 16 seed beat a 1 seed for only the 2nd time ever. This has easily been the best NCAA Tourney in a while. No blue bloods. College basketball is alive and well.
  15. We'll see how much pull LCJ has here.
  16. Not shocking. Nevada was Transfer U before it was cool and had success.
  17. Nevada lost in the play-in round too. It was a good non-conference schedule.
  18. It's a shame Carry/Payton/Jacobs won't be around to be put on a poster.
  19. Especially considering they were the shortest team in the country and half the team came with him from DII ball. I'm not sure how successful he'll be at Iona, but congrats to him on no longer making $40k to coach DI basketball. Seems like a good guy and got his team to buy into a style that led to the biggest upset in NCAA history.
  20. Iona is a pretty big step up. 6 figure job and established tournament presence. 2012, 2013, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2021, 2023
  21. Chicago kid. 6' 170 lbs. Averaged 19 ppg at the halfway point this season (no idea what he finished at). Charleston being in on him is promising for his potential. Don't know enough about him for the needle to move either way, but trying to find DII talent ready for the DI level is smart (look at Toledo and JT Shumate). Edit: Just watched a highlight video. Takeaways... - Looks like he is bigger than the old 6' 170 lbs metrics - Twitchy/Explosive. Handles well, moves quick with the ball, gets to the basket well, finishes well, and gets into his shooting motion quickly.
  22. Transferring and transferring again is a semantics issue that's largely irrelevant when talking about a coaching change. FDU for example. Guy is hired 10 months ago. He is now taking the Iona job (as he should; he was making $40k at FDU). Let's say he wanted to make an immediate impact and hit the Transfer Portal hard to build the FDU program quickly. They have success, then he bolts for Iona. Those players who transferred in would be forced to stay at FDU. Schools are a dime a dozen. Good coaches, chemistry with coaches - that's more rare. Coaching changes should easily be accepted as a secpnd-transfrr waiver reason.
  23. CMU & NIU were buried long before the open Transfer Portal. Most schools that failed to establish a winning culture expectation will continue to suffer - open portal or not. Blocking kids from transferring if a coach leaves is criminal and I believe this is only the first tightening on restrictions we will see as FBS Football/DI Basketball becomes more competitive.
  24. NCAA just released a new set of transfer guidelines when applying for a waiver to transfer a second time. Applications for a second transfer due to a coaching change will be DENIED. I guess the NCAA quickly realized the transfer portal is helping the G5s more than they thought.
