If stupid gets me a $1M salary, I don't want to be smart... Then again, I could have actual success in March and still make a hefty six figures (Groce). I'll get back to you on which path I choose for College Basketball Coach Game of Life.
-
That's the cleanest nickname that school has currently...
-
The way I see it Groce has 3 options, two of which depend on success level... 1) Akron makes a tourney run and he gets another Big Time gig. 2) Akron makes the tourney, and he leaves for better pay with a lesser big time program. 3) He stays at Akron and gets a banner of his own as one of Akron's best coaches ever. His brand of basketball is not only productive, but it is an absolute blast to watch. We hung 80+ on EMU. How many years of 55-49 did we have to suffer through to get a style of basketball that puts up 80+ on the Zone of Trees, AND kills them on the boards? He has beaten PCCC, owned OU, beaten Toledo, BUGS, etc. It's hard not to like the group of guys he has brought in to wear the Akron Blue & Gold. I still get choked up watching the One Shining Moment video from last year. If Groce has any interest in staying, the University needs to find a way to get it done. Period.

MAC Men’s Basketball - Catch-all Thread

Or Toledo benefitted from playing more games early on than the majority of other MAC schools, and that gap is closing as the rest of the MAC warms up with a more consistent schedule. -
Seriously? Be right back. I'm going to play the lottery... Is it still $800M? Great all around game by Akron. Statement game with effort.
-
Is that the Ypsilanti skyline on the back of EMU's jerseys? Top 10 most notable skylines of cities that begin with "Y". Prove me wrong.

Fun game to watch. Props to KSUcks... Nevermind. Can't give them props at all. Thank you Toledo for giving them another L. I dislike both programs, but I really, REALLY loathe PCCC. -
This team is good. I don't think they're at more than 70% of their potential, but the components are there. Dawson had himself a game, especially late in that second half. He really put the lid on this one with his effort and big shots. Freeman is amazing. What a find. Agreed on looking forward to the video of him getting a scholarship someday. LCJ's jersey will hang in the rafters one day. That man is the little engine that could. He put this program on his back and is carrying it as far as he can. It has been an honor to watch him in a Zips uniform, and what an incredible find by Groce. Props to the entire team for making the necessary adjustments at halftime. It's still refreshing to see actual halftime adjustments after a subpar first half. Go Zips!

Just spit balling here, but the SEC likes to cram in some cupcake opponents in November. If we forfeit the MAC games, can we make $10M+ traveling the Southeastern Conference for weekly ass whoopings?

I really like the no-division look in the MAC. Hopefully this is the way (Mandalorian pun intended) going forward. I have spoken. -
I wouldn't mind getting an early lead and letting Clarke run the offense a bit with Dailey on the floor. Let some non-LCJ chemistry build and force Dailey to take on more of a leadership role. I REALLY wouldn't mind seeing Currie, Aziz, Dawson, Wynn, and Clarke on the floor late (assuming we're up double digits).

5'8", 165 lbs (soaking wet) PG. 6'7", stick figure C/PF. Effort. Fundamentals. Groce has gotten some amazing production out of improbable attributes/measurables. Props to BG for having the Stroh properly lit. It's amazing how well a team can play on the road when they aren't playing in a dimly-lit cavernous arena.
-
Ali Ali! So nice, you have to say it twice! OT!
-
90 wins the game. 50 for LCJ. 10 other players with 4 pts each. Boom.
-
Wynn sighting. He needs to do more of that!
-
Random thought of the day... Anybody else get a sick smirk on their facing when thinking that, we whooped on OU and beat Kent, then both fan bases watched us lose by double digits to EMU leaving them to think about what's wrong with their respective programs? Salt in the wound.
-
Yeah... Groce ripped them all a new one since Saturday. The effort, energy, and overall movement is so much better than Saturday.

The #1 weapon against the zone is team chemistry. Off the ball movement, knowing where those guys are gonna be moving to off the ball, etc. With the limited time this team has together, especially in a competitive environment, the slow start doesn't surprise me. -

Steve Hawkins: "The MAC is always so close. I can never identify the top or the bottom." Spoken like a WMU coach who spent 20 years in the middle. -

Toledo rolled OU tonight. -
Florida was set to come here. Although we should've hosted OSUcks in the first place. Gave the game to OSUcks due to their bigger arena, but I don't think the attendance in CBus would've filled the JAR. Had that game been at the JAR, could you imagine the atmosphere? I doubt the NIT, given the decision to give OSUcks that home game, would've let Florida come up to Akron. Everyone is right about that game and it being a should-have-won. Every single flaw with Dambrot's system showed that game, and they all had to do with basic fundamentals. Free Throws also cost us the ranked Nevada game and I believe the ranked VCU game (or they were eventually ranked) - both at the JAR. The Dukes are a 65% shooting team from the Charity Stripe so far this season. That's probably their ceiling under Dambrot.
-
Tribble could be that #2. Do we have an update on why he didn't dress last night?
-
Correct. The few times they showed them, the announcers were in what looked to be their respective homes. I'll excuse the missed calls, but their all-around ability to commentate on a game was atrocious. If Akron wouldn't have won, I probably would have been more pissed that I just wasted 2 hours listening to them, than the actual result.
