  1. i think temple down the road might be ok in the mac. there will plenty of opportunites for them to win games. i just think in the old conference there was little chance for them to win games. does anyone know who are cross over games are. ball state i dont thinnk should be rated that low. they seem to turn it around towards the end of the year.
  2. well put.im sure he had his reasons for leaving. sports (teamwork)is a reflection of what is ahead of your life. you don't always like the people you work with, or every one in your family. sometimes you have to do things in life you don't like doing.going to work ect.to throw away a full ride does not make sense to me. im not trying to judge anyone only pointing out how college life gets you ready for the real world. life ain't always easy.later in life you can't just walk away from certian things;so he might as well get used to it now.
  3. i guess this a related topic.i read on the mac board that omar jacobs is going pro early.i think this is a huge loss for there program.they can spin it any way they want, but without him bg is just an average mac team.
  4. i have to agree with zipsrifle. i think our starters on the defense were fine this year. we had no depth on the dl,and lb's. we need to play some younger guys ,and build some depth. i kow alott of coaches stick with the starters the whole game, but against memphis those guys had to be worn out. you noticed williams was shut down the first half. by the end of the game even the back-up was getting big gains. the only other way to fix this is by running the ball more. i know were not a running team, but we need to be able to get first downs in short yardage. this runs the clock and gives our defense more rest.
  5. i disagree about playing time for height. we need all the dl we can get our hands on. the biggest problem we had is no depth on our dl,and lb's / hopefully the kid from mc kinley will be eligible and get alott of pt.it would be nice to be able to rotate the d lineman.
  6. i know it's water under the bridge, but i wonder if uam could have done anything legallyto force espn hand.it was a bullcrap move on espn's part. i don't think it will happen again with the zips going to a bowl game, and finally getting some national exposure.the fact is thoguh it should have never happened in the first place.
  7. i dont have a problem with the games being on espn by playing during the week.what i do have a problem with is moving a game to thanksgiving, and then not getting the game on espn. unless you have a guarantee the game is going to be on you could be replaced by poker on thanksgiving.we got scewed big time by espn, and traded the largest crowd of the year in.
  8. why we won the mac this year versus the 2003 team.? this team had alott more talent on defense than 2003. as much as i love the zips i have cannot agree that the reason we won the mac was just pure coaching. the mac 2005 was not near the league it was in 2003 with miami,bg, toledo, niu in 2003 all had very goood teams. jd and the team did a great job in winning the games they had to win this year. that's what counts .what this year did was give us a springboard to build our program, and fan base.
  9. im sure fyre really doesn't care what people on this board have to say about him not being a winner. he is playng in the nfl,and making alott of $. sounds like a winner to me. i think it's hard to compare the two qb's.i think fyre had a better o-line,but our defense this year was alott better. luke proved he can lead our team to a championship.both our winners in my book.
  10. that's my point about our defense. i think our speed is fine. i don't care how fast you are if your out on the field the whole game eventually you will break down on some plays. i didn't see williams doing this in the first half. the zip defense came up with some big stops playing on a short field.the score in the first half could have been easily 21-3.i think there are only two ways to fix it. we need more depth, and control the ball. not trying to nit pick because we did score 31. at the end though you had a fresh back up rb against a tired defense. even when we did score with the short pass to biggs on one play ,the defense wasn't off the field very long to rest.
  11. i have to agree that the defense just got tired at the end. i thought they played a great first half. it's a shame the offense could not play more ball control(running game). if we had been able to run the ball just a little better things may have been different.
  12. the biggesrt question mark i think is the lb position.not only do we have to replace jay we don't seem to have much depth. i think there is an opportunity to find some younger guys in this recruting class to come in and at least be number two's. stokes and grant showed you can come in and play within one year,or two.
  13. a great effort by the zips.there are no moral victories, but there is something to be said of this teams effort. i think the defense was on the feild way to long to stop a running game like memphis has. if the offense would have been able to control the ball a little more the second half things would have been different. still a great season by the zips players and coaches. go akron!!!!!!!
  14. are all these kids still in school? i know the kid from mckinley was ranked one of the top dl in ohio.
  15. i have no problem if jd does get a better job with more money.i would be happy for the guy.he did give up high paying job to come into coaching which shows me he loves the game; and it'smore than just about money for him.when a coach leaves for the same position at another school it is just for money.thats fine to ,but dont let the door hit ya.....
  16. that's all and good. this is not a persona attack on the akron coach, but i am so sick of the coaches in college football jumping ship the first chance they get for an extra$. the coaches talk about teaching kids values, honesty, loyalty, and teamwork.who's team are they on?. the $$$$ team. there is no loyalty to the players that they recruit, but when some of these kids go pro early the coaches think its a big mistake.that's why joe pa is a calls act in my book. he had chance to coach in the pro's,but he stayed because he loved the kids ,and penn state. that's what a coach is. teaching young men about life.not using them as a stepping stone for more $.
  17. im glad to see the free throw practice cal had against akron really helped them today against kansas.
  18. really can't blame jd for rome foul trouble, and wood being out. i sure he expected to play cal with those guys in the lineup. emu beat cal without their big man.i did not watch the game(listened to it) but 33 to 8 free throw attempts?
  19. if it is bc od we have a one for one / two for one? is this a one game deal;which i find hard to believe.
  20. im sure some of the players don't understand ,but i think dan said it best when some of the zipfans have been waiting 20 years for this game. that's why it's more than just one game.
  21. if the 40 time is 4.29 legit the kid can flat out fly! i doubt if there are to many kids on the zips team, or in the mac for that mater right now that can run a (legit) 4.29. sounds like a good realy pickupfor the zips!!!
  22. zipsrifle your exactly right.this is just step towards building a fan base.how many mac teams have (even decent )attendance at home.maybe toldeo, niu,ou.none travel well. a few thousand fans to an away game is nothing compared to some big ten teams. akron needs to keep winning and the fans will show up. a new stadium would help, but only if the team wins.the marketing dept is at least trying to do some good things with buses/ free tickets to the mac championship game.akron won- the kids deserve to go no matter how many people show up. if other fans of mac teams don't like it. to bad.
  23. the problem with attendance for this game is it's during the week ,and a non campus site. if the game was at u of akron it would be 25+ there. except for toldeo and the three michigan schools detroit is a bad place if it's during the week. the mac is selling the game during the week because it's on espn; which we will be good exposure for our program. unlike the thanksgiving game; which should have been on espn. we were replaced by poker(repeat). how the hell is poker sport beats me?espn needs to get a clue. go zips!!!!!!
  24. i agree it's a the most meaningful game in 20 years.espn, and espn 2 however thinks sportscenter, boxing, and poker(repeat) are more meaningful.where is the mac office!and the akron marketing dept! they should be all over espn right now.this is a bunch of b.s. it's not like we are getting replaced by another game either.it just show's how much lack of respect the university has. all the other mac games were on except akron. hopefully we will kick can'ts, but and then we will be on tv in the mac championship.
  25. funny you mention the ysu game.i was there and froze. i think there were a few hundred people watching by the end of game. niu is taking control. it can't get any easier for the zips.destroy Can't, and win the mac east.they need to take care of business tomorrow.
